NOTE: Really started off this video with a bang by mistakenly referring to the U8 as an "all-electric" super SUV. While it is super, it is not all-electric. As I go on to describe in the video, it is actually an extended-range electric vehicle. I did the same during the test drive portion when comparing it to the MHero 917. Sorry for the mistake, hope it wasn't too annoying!

@@bondandngHybrid is normally referred to power units that utilize both electric motor and engine. This car is only driven by electric motor, the engine is only charging the battery.

Both U8 and 917 have two version: all-electric and REEV. The all-electric version of U8 will be released in the future.

The quality of Chinese cars should be determined by the market, rather than banning them from entering the U.S. market for national security reasons. If national security reasons are established, then Tesla and Ford should not exist in the Chinese market based on the same logic.

Wtf is your logic? xD they are banned because there's severe safety concerns that to date not only weren't publicly investigated but are actually being hidden from us. So obviously something like that should never be allowed on public roads. If your Tesla, BMW, Ford, ... broke in a way that was clearly a factory fault and it somehow impacted your health then you can at least sue the shit out of them. If your BYD magically caught fire on the second day after delivery, killing your entire family in the process, then you can't do anything about it except crying about it on the internet.

I was like ... why is it so expensive .. but as the video progressed, i realised the price more and more... it seems you are paying for the so many features, unlike in the west where you pay for the brand name. Also the interior is so beautiful its the most beautiful on an EV. I dont like full EV's .. when I heard this has an engine I was blown away. companies like Tesla and others who make EV's dont realise that people do not want the hospital waiting room interior and the cold colors... This BYD interior was perfect and cozy.

This thing is absolutely insane. Thank you so much for the excellent review! At 150k USD, this thing competes with a Land Rover Defender or something like that. It's really no contest, and no wonder why Western brands are shaking. Who in their right mind would get a Defender over this? I hope Yangwang/BYD are able to quickly start producing cars in Mexico to get over the garbage protectionist laws in North America. We need these amazing cars in Canada!

EV with Range Extender is the best & most practical choice. -Simplicity of direct drive with no transmission. -No need for enormous battery to cover every eventuality. -Engine simply tuned for power generation, like Audi's Dakar winner. -Software can be used to protect battery and ICE from abuse. - Daily commuting on cheap, clean all-electric power. -No worries about range or charging on remote trips.

In fact NO OTHER production SUV has those features. BTW that's just a long winded way to say the U8 is indeed "unique".

Electric SUV with range extenders make way more sense if you're gonna go overlanding or use your vehicle to tow. So as long as the fuel consumption is better than an ICE truck there's no real downside.

The defender is also 2/3 the cost at most of the U8. It's also not manufactured in China and has much higher safety and reliability. Notice BYD can't make it in the US market and Land Rover can.

Chinese annual electric power generation is also 2.5x more than the United States, and 40% of that power comes from renewable energy. Basically China has the infrastructure for EV adoption. The US on the other hand will experience grid overload if everyone starts charging at home.

False. 62% of China's power comes from coal. 60.4% of the power in the US comes from fossil fuels as a whole and 39.4% from Nuclear and renewables. It is essentially the same breakdown but we have far more nuclear power where China relies heavily on hydropwer still. They do NOT have a grid built for EVs... nobody does nor will they in the next several decades.

This is the perfect car for mafia bosses and cartel tycoon. Fast and luxury, quiet (so you don’t attract attention when you sneak up or run away). Had range extender( you can run away at any point without worrying about range). can swim (good for losing the cops by swimming away). Has drone on top (Let’s find out where is all the cops). Just perfect!

Hi, new to your channel, first of all it looks like BYD has bought a Defender and made it their own, I know BYD will probably say they look nothing alike, however I do love what they've added to it, it is certainly unique miles away from the defender though, the interior, wow I love it and same goes for the screens, how I love the tech on this car and the drone feature oh wow, I'm surprised no other manufacturer has ever thought of it, its BRILLIANT, if I had the cash I would literally buy this if it came to our shores, I hope BYD is considering exporting to SEZ and I hope they would be affordable, so far I'm loving their cars, by that I mean the dolphin, the seal and this U8 brilliant.

Damn, I thought it was ugly but that interior looks so good. Both the design and materials are way nicer than most SUVs, and it looks way more fancy than the new Range Rover. If these came to North America, we may have some real competition in the luxury SUV market and move beyond the cheap interiors they have in EVs today.

Please bring these to our shores. I remember when people would dismiss my grandpa for driving a Toyota Corona--boy they were wrong. These cars are in the same trajectory and their potential market penetration tragedy the same. You must keep the dealers in check. Toyota is having issues with their dealerships here in the U.S. (abusing the consumer and paying some heavy gov't fines for it).

The Chinese one upped the rest of the world with this. Production quality concerns me as it would with any manufacturer. 30 minute swim time concerns me as to what is vulnerable in 31 minutes. USA would have made this 40 years ago if we didn’t cause ourselves so many dilemmas along the way. I confidently say that because I designed a similar vehicle that was hydraulic drive back then. Very nicely presented video. Excellent job china

It's definitely feature heavy and cool conceptually, especially the swimming part. It's not really a utility vehicle though like a Hilux or a Landcruiser

I think the newer BYD dynasty series cars will adopt the suspension. and sometimes the dynasty series sold as ocean series in other market like seal U.
