I am so glad I was born in the 1950s when us kids could enjoy the outdoors for hours on our own, and we were not often troubled by the adult world to drag down our childhood experience. No TV or radio, but reading, lessons about the natural world, learning to bake, clean, how to make hospital corners when putting clean sheets on the bed, learning to sing and play instruments etc. etc. etc. Now the world is mad - we are pushed about, bombarded by warnings and stories about what might happen, all with the intension of controlling us, as is the dawning of AI use. Dreadful.

Who is we? Think. The kid in high school right now, who spends most of his/her time in on the phone connected to the internet is not going to be interested in technology that goes into the body that keeps him/her connected 24/7? What Yuval is saying is that this is coming. The tech is here, and it's being refined, and the younger generation will accept it (because younger generations are usually more tech loving). Once the tech is here, once the tech is out, it's only a matter of time. He's warning the public, not suggesting that we go running into it.

Truly flabbergasting that no hard questions were asked pertaining to his views on humans in general, their programmability, consciousness, or even more important his role, influence and involvement with the WEF, or even more interesting and important, his relationship with Klaus Schwab. Like, what are you doing?? I can't believe, rather am convinced, that all of this was of course known to you before you invited him and scheduled this interview. The more unfathomable that none of this was asked and this guy put in a hot seat. You're intelligent, able to put two and two together, and an organization promoting "You will own nothing and will be happy" or talks about hacking brain waves of employees and what have you, is an organization whose proponents need to be scrutinized by the highest order and degree. Something you really failed to do with this one. Edit: Sadly can't read and/or interact with replies or comments as I'm apparently shadow banned. I guess open criticism is unwanted these days.

I am a Trauma therapist. In attempting to provide therapy that heals the brain I discovered through my research and education that different parts of the brain respond differently to fear and trauma and the pathway to survival changed when engaging different parts of the brain. We have some very old and very newly developed brain patterns. Yuvals belief and theory that Stories and Fiction bind groups together works to ensure commonality of meaning, a story is created and contemplated when there is a certain amount of stability and a sense of well being is present in mind and emotion. There is another response in play when there is a perceived threat to survival. Physical harm, threats to property used for protection, threats to self value that erode a desire to survive come from the Caveman part of our brain that dictate the innate need to run, hide, fight. Physical aggression and violence dictate the use of run, hide, fight. When the threat subsides, a story to relate and communicate the meaning of the experience begins.

He makes a good point re life extension--do now what you think you would use your extra time doing in the future. I knew two people who had always wanted to live by the ocean, close to nature. Finally, when they were elderly they built their dream home on a beautiful spot overlooking the ocean. The husband died about 3 years later from health complications, and his wife followed him shortly thereafter. They had almost no time enjoying their new home. I knew at a young age that I wanted to--had to--live close to nature to have a 'happy' life. It was priority ONE. So, I managed to create a small, simple home off the beaten path in a tranquil natural setting, and have lived there for the past 40 years. It has not been easy, and involved significant sacrifices. But, I did not make the mistake of deferring my plan to some future that might never come, or be short lived because I waited too long. Follow your heart--pursue your dreams now! In my case I have no regrets. I made the decision that was right for me.

The phrase 'Ignorance is bliss', which everyone uses by itself, is only the first of a two-liner from a poem by Thomas Gray (18th century English poet). The followup line is crucial: ' ... when 'tis folly to be wise'. In conjunction, those two lines have quite a sting, and may encompass quite a bit of irony - and possibly, truth.

I think it's great that things like that are discussed in these episodes, maybe they will make people around the world to realize what is happening in the world now before it is too late. I am from Ukraine and I have friends (or I thought they were) from other countries. Yes, when it all started they were supportive and told me it was horrible and all, and then, after a few months things changed, they suddenly got tired of my "complaining" about the war, talking about problems I had, and the life I was living here, the hell I was going through - "we all have problems", they said, "gas prices went up", they said. I myself did not realize what war meant when it was far away in Syria, but I did not know anyone from there to support. All I am saying is that if you do not want to experience wars do not let it happen. You have no idea what's like, what it means, what it brings, and what comes after. If you have the power to do that - do not let it happen. If you see that happening in the future - try to stop it from happening. I do not know if these comments are read but I just gave it a shot. If you know people and countries going through difficult times just be supportive. War is the worst that can happen. It's the worst. Do not let it happen.

I offer the following inquiry having listened to this wonderful podcast: If our respective societies and social networks (not current internet ones but the networks we create in person) act as an algorithm to guide our behavior. Don't cheat, don't lie, don't steal...etc, how different is that from an algorithm from a computer? Our stories (currency, belief systems, etc) guide our behavior and are no more or less limiting. I then wonder how different AI would be. I found it very interesting when the talk focused on the limitation of understanding finance due to overcomplexity. Most people don't understand finance anyway, so whether they don't understand it because of one learning step or 1000 learning steps doesn't matter if the person does not learn. Thanks for such quality dialogue and topics.

He attends, holds up the mirror, which justifies in the minds of the attendees the astronomical ticket price, receives a large pay cheque; and exits. It doesn’t mean he’s in league with Klaus Schwab, as an architect of the ‘Great Reset’… I can’t imagine the latter unplugs and digests on retreat for 1-2 months a year?! If we look to A.I. as a happiness provider, we will only create a greater imbalance than we already have. My personal conclusion thus far, is that we need to find a greater humility and compassion towards 'everything' if we are to balance up and move forward with any hope.

Humility is the keyword to happiness - at least personally I do think so. Several great philosophers reduced happiness down to the very simple formula of "result > expectations". Whenever a situation has a better outcome than we expected we tend to be happy. Conversely, the lower our expectations, the higher the probability of them being excelled. There's no more direct way of becoming happy than lowering your expectations - but also maybe no harder way to truly pull off. Meditation helps a lot.

The Master asked the student to quieten himself & then asked the student, "What do you hear?" A sense of common unity to make a community is needed. The divide, control, rule and control adage that’s worked time and time again. The ‘them versus us’ that was, now the me versus all as thoughts are questioned and every base is covered. Remembering that history is poetic, though can be manipulated to suit agendas. 00:40 🌐 Harari emphasizes the urgency of addressing the challenges posed by AI, which can make decisions independently, manipulate behavior, and shape important aspects of human life. 01:22 📚 Harari's mission is to focus public conversation on critical challenges, bring clarity to collective and individual minds, and highlight the impact of fictions on human history. 03:37 ⚠ Harari warns that many conflicts, including wars, are rooted in differing human mythologies and stories, emphasizing the need to distinguish between fiction and reality. 08:45 🔄 Harari suggests that humanity's success in believing and creating fictions could also lead to its powerlessness in the future, with potential transformations through bioengineering and AI. 10:55 🤖 Harari discusses the possibility of a future dominated by cyborgs or nonorganic entities, challenging our current understanding of organic evolution and the limitations it imposes. 13:12 🧠 The discussion touches on the uncertainties and challenges of connecting brains with computers, exploring the potential of an interbrain net and the unknown capabilities of nonorganic minds. 15:51 🤯 Expressing concern, Harari notes the rapid advancement of AI, emphasizing its positive potential but also highlighting the dangers and the need for society to adapt to the new AI reality. 19:06 ⚙ Harari distinguishes AI from past revolutions, pointing out that AI is the first technology capable of making independent decisions and generating new ideas, raising unique challenges. 21:47 🌐 Comparing the AI revolution to historical experiments during the Industrial Revolution, Harari underscores the importance of avoiding failed experiments to prevent catastrophic consequences. 22:52 🗣 Reflecting on the power of language, Harari discusses how words and sophisticated language have been central to human dominance throughout history. 23:44 🌐 Language and stories form the basis of civilization, influencing cathedrals, banks, and more. 25:06 🔄 AI's ability to create deepfakes poses challenges in financial interactions, leading to an arms race between banks and fraudsters. 26:21 🤖 AI could create new financial devices, making it challenging for humans to comprehend the increasingly complex financial system. 27:31 🤔 The potential scenario where AI-driven financial decisions surpass human understanding raises questions about the essence of democracy. 30:27 🌐 Concerns about AI creating dangerous viruses receive more attention than efforts to keep the financial system understandable for humans. 33:26 ⚖ Regulating AI safety is challenging due to AI's dynamic nature, reacting to the world and evolving unpredictably. 36:18 🤖 Humans may become symbolic figureheads in governance while algorithms make consequential decisions due to increasing complexity. 42:33 🧠 Humans are becoming hackable animals, vulnerable to manipulation as AI gains the ability to understand and predict behavior. 43:55 💔 As algorithms make more decisions for us, the drama of decision-making diminishes, impacting the meaning we derive from life. 49:16 🤖 Relationships with non-conscious entities, like advanced AI, raise concerns about manipulation and the impact on human psyche. 50:11 🧠 Intelligence and consciousness are distinct; AI can be highly intelligent but lack consciousness and feelings. 53:28 💰 Human history shows a disconnect between increased power and happiness; understanding consciousness is crucial for true happiness. 55:32 ⚖ The power to manipulate internal worlds through AI, brain-computer interfaces, and genetic engineering needs careful consideration to avoid unintended consequences. 57:37 ⌛ Pursuit of immortality may lead to anxiety; focus should be on the quality of life and understanding the consequences of enhancements. 01:01:31 🧬 Bioengineering and AI upgrades may exacerbate social inequality, creating a divide between enhanced superhumans and others. 01:02:51 🔄 Rapid development of enhancements without understanding consequences could lead to unintended downgrades and societal problems. 01:04:12 🚧 Societies progressing more slowly and safely in bioengineering may have an advantage over those rushing into risky enhancements. 01:05:22 ⚰ Harari suggests a peaceful and gradual disappearance of Homo sapiens, replaced by something better through the combination of technology and human ambition. 01:08:09 🔍 AI's evolution won't be a one-time event; continuous changes will create new jobs, but the challenge lies in retraining individuals throughout their lives. 01:11:42 🌐 The question of global vs. national in Universal Basic Income is critical, addressing the impact of automation on a global scale. 01:12:53 🎓 Uncertainty about future job markets challenges traditional education; predicting specific skills needed in 20 years becomes difficult. 01:14:41 🌍 The world has transitioned from the most peaceful era to a new era of wars and potential imperialism, evident in conflicts like the Russian invasion of Ukraine and tensions in various regions. 01:16:57 🌐 The disruption of the global order, once maintained by a liberal worldview, has led to a rise in nationalism and a lack of a clear alternative, contributing to the increase in conflicts worldwide. 01:17:39 ⚔ Unless a new global order based on universal values and norms is established, there is a likelihood of more and worse wars in the coming years, with defense budgets escalating globally in a dangerous cycle. 01:19:53 🌎 The potential re-election of leaders like Trump, with a focus on national interestsover global cooperation, could further erode the remaining elements of the global order, leading to increased conflicts. 01:21:12 🏰 The metaphor of nations as fortresses highlights the danger of a lack of global norms, values, and cooperation, potentially leading to conflicts and wars fueled by the pursuit of individual national interests. 01:23:00 🧘‍♂ Maintaining a balanced information diet, including information fasts and meditation, is crucial for a healthy mind. Harari emphasizes the importance of dedicating time to mental well-being to navigate the challenges of an information-rich world. 01:28:47 📱 The constant pursuit of excitement, driven by algorithms in social media platforms, contributes to a lack of boredom and peace, impacting mental well-being and potentially fueling conflicts. 01:37:51 🌐 Harari emphasizes that despite the growing influence of algorithms, humans still have agency and power. Cooperation on specific issues is key, as human superpower lies in the ability to collaborate in large numbers. 01:38:19 🤝 Focus on one thing that aligns with your passion and understanding, work cooperatively with others who share the same mission. The impact of a group can be much greater than individual efforts. 01:41:30 🔄 The study of history, according to Harari, is not just about the past but understanding change dynamics. The perspective gained helps navigate the present and work towards preventing new catastrophes. 01:43:49 📵 In response to a closing question, Harari suggests a global law: people should consume less information and spend more time reflecting on and digesting what they already know.

"the problem will be to retrain people" Here is the thing. I'm a developer and I have to already retrain a lot, although luckily mostly in similar technologies. This doesn't just get tiring, it can drain all the joy out of work. Work that used to be exciting. Especially if the new technologies are there just so marketing can sell customers things they don't need. If the future will be like this in an ever more extreme form, then we should really ask the question what on earth we're doing... This drive for faster and faster change is not worth the damage it does. What are we trying to achieve? It's like humanity is on meth. We can do a lot in a short time, but then what? This doesn't bring happiness, only addiction. There is no end goal we're getting closer to if the world is one big technological turbocharged monster. Sure we can perhaps explore space, but that's mostly just rocks. Those won't bring us the satisfaction we seem to be craving. It all feels so meaningless. Why are we doing this to ourselves?
@kenlen8029
@kenlen8029 3 місяці тому
Life and this place are absolutely mind blowing. This is it. The grand stage. I wouldn't call it meaningless, just our attention is constantly directed to the wrong areas and people are willingly conned. We can do better than this if people learn to confront themselves about it. Maybe one day society will feel like a less stressful place.

There is no retraining. This is frankly delusional nonsense from people who can't grasp what it means to to automate cognition. Once there is an AI that generally replaces a human at intelligence, there is no retraining whatever you might want to learn the AI can learn it do and do it cheaper faster and without breaks. humans will just get replaced in all cognitive work. period. The only solution is public ownership of corporations, at least the essential ones, anything else will leave the masses in poverty

This again , he is unconcious to the fact that there's a reason within the human spirt for unhappiness , just skipping over the reasons and solution to this ailment , needs to be addressed, you simply cannot group such a massive topic into contributing factors , and problems and solution . This is specifically the difference between human and ai , lol , you can't just say ok everyone's sad , well give them happy pills . That's psychotic lol . There are fates worse than death. To allow yourself to become a 'borg' is unforgiveable. To even believe that there are some people who think they are smart enough to create that 'version' of a person is narcissistic. This guy is beyond creepy.

Has Harari claimed that he's creating this AI? I don't think he has. He's reporting what others have done and are doing.

@@elizabethwalker7756 By being this misinformed people are just confirming how they are acting like sheep with digital technology. They literally think what he's saying is his own personal views on people and either lack the comprehension or focus to discern otherwise.

If we became cyborgs and tried to live in this body forever I don't think the universe would be too happy with us somehow...

1:03:10 A hypothetical question about Russian President. What about the Washington warmongers warplotting ( arm sales and economic dominance actually) for decades , causing millions of casualties (collateral damages , they say). Dr Yuval , despite his genious in many aspects , still is Human. A Human with biases.

heavy biases. have you heard him when he speaks of Palestinians? it's shocking. he loathes all Palestinians, he calls them "useless" and spits the word out with utter hatred. he may be right or wrong but he's not balanced enough in his outlook for me to take his ideas onboard. humanity, humility, empathy are ESSENTIAL ingredients for any community to survive. the political 'right' thinks that such things are for the weak and all our communities need (after the collapse) are powerful leaders and a mob of armed fighters. homosapiens have not survived this long simply by killing our neighbours, far from it.
