I set mine up yesterday, August 2022, after watching this after not wanting to buy a new computer to run zwift and it is so easy to set up with the remote. The remote is really easy to use and the clarity of Apple TV 4K combined with a ViewSonic 24 inch gaming monitor is incredible. Highly recommended.

Just to let you folks know (and make your day! :-) ), on the original swipe-remote there are 4 virtual buttons, functioning the exact same way: tap (not click) upper part of swipe-pad to go up, lower, left and right to jump in these directions. So much better than swiping! Not sure if this was functional before the last update, but I do think so.

Glad to see this added functionality: HOWEVER, having had the Apple TV (2020 version) navigation challenge, I switched last week to using my iPad Pro for Zwift, and my present feeling is that the touchscreen is SO easy and SO precise, and will be superior to the Apple TV even when the NEWS buttons on the latter are fully implemented. Tomorrow I will use the same approach, but also add screen mirroring from my IPad to my main display. Of course not everyone has an iPad, but it’s a valid option. I have both 2020 and 2021 Apple TVS, and they are both great for my overall viewing experience, But for now, Zwift via my iPad is so much easier to implement.

I’ve got the new ATV currently connected to my main TV and a 1080 ATV that I’ve been mirroring my iPad through for Zwift. Will have to decide whether to get a new remote for the 1080p unit (and stop doing iPad mirroring) or just buy a second new ATV? I think I might just get a new remote as I don’t think there’s any real in game benefit to upgrading my 1080 ATV, hmmm

Can't wait to try this on my next workout. One of my bug bears is changing your FTP with the remote. Almost impossible. Also if a workout description has a lot of text you can't scroll to read it all and also view the stress points etc.

A quick look at the latest update, (1.21.0), seems to offer much improved support for the Siri remote. Route and Training plan options are selectable using the touch pad, moving in a controllable fashion as required. No mention in the release notes, but others will be interested if you share my opinion. I'm using the ATV HD (4th version) with the new Siri remote.

One of the hardest things to navigate with the remote is bike selection, then changing the frame colour…. Oh and sock length, lol!

Shane, your videos are excellent and extremely helpful. That said, the new remote control is much (much, much) better but it is a pain to select a workout - the remote seems to be vague and a pain to use when browsing / selecting a workout. Can you share any secrets or advice for this issue. Other than that, selecting a route and all other functions are extremely easy

Zwift workouts is one area zwift need to a major overhaul. As a couch it would be great if that all in a group meetup can be given a workout set by the ride leader.

Your route selection with a swipe seems so much better than mine. Every time I swipe it moves up/down several routes. I can never get to a particular route I want. Always swiping right past it.

I’d use my Apple TV if I could add another device without the mobile link. I prefer to use my 4iiii inside and out for consistency! So I’ll keep on using my 5 yr old Alienware alpha 😬

Clear explanation of how to use the new directional capability of the new remote. However, I was waiting to see what would happen at the end of the ride - I'm finding that when I save a ride, Apple TV then exits automatically - so I have to re-click on the user field - and THEN I find the sensors have disconnected. This means if I just start another ride, one or more of the sensors isn't connected (usually the HR monitor), and I have to go through the pairing rigmarole again.

Using the Apple TV remote, how do you cycle through the mini map views?

I am looking to upgrade from using my phone (which looks fantastic but tiny) and mirror setup to Chromecast (which is jerky, often pixelated, and often crashes) to something else. We have two setups close together, space constrained, so putting in two PCs would be expensive and difficult. So... been thinking about ATV 4k 2021, watched some reviews, and have wondered if they have improved graphics at all in the past 4 months or so. My monitor is 1920x1080, 24". Wondering about the shadow rendering amonst overall visual quality. I tried to see from the video review of the remote being better supported, but curses, it was a cloudy day so I couldn't really tell! Thanks for anybody who has any comments about video rendering etc. for the 2021 ATV 4K.

I see your Personal Best power numbers were reset after the update too. I find that an incredibly annoying flaw of Zwift’s update procedure. Those numbers are a valuable indicator of performance. A really quick way to see whether you’ve beaten a PB after an effort. I really wish they would prevent updates doing that.

Thinking about switching to apple tv insted of my win10 computer. Got to much issues on win pc with zwift. Is zwift on apple tv stable? And HR and cadance via companion app, does that work?

You can use any IR tv remote with Apple TV. Just go to the remote settings and program as per the prompts. Works much better than the Siri for zwift.

Did they update the graphics profile for the new AppleTV also? I might be wrong, but I think see more details now

Hi Shane. Wonder if you can help. I'm having a few issues connecting my Kickr v4 to Zwift via my new Apple TV 2021 with Bluetooth. Bluetooth appears to be working on the Kickr and Apple TV but on the screen at 2.04 of your video the BT icon in the top left corner has an ! mark next to it and no pulsing lines from the icon. I cannot get anything to pair. I've even put the Apple TV directly next to the Kickr but nothing. I was previously using Zwift via Ant + from my Mac Laptop but wanted to use Apple TV instead. Do you have any ideas on what I could check please? Thanks Mike

I still find it to be very tricky to use scrolling on the new remote to select submenu items like the workouts, but found a great trick today. Rather than scrolling directly up and down the center of the ring and enter button, if you scroll in a circular motion around the raised part of the click-button ring it will scroll with much finer and more controllable motion. The trick is that you still have to move up or down, but just follow the rim. For example, to move down, slide your finger clockwise from the 12 o'clock to the 6 o'clock position around, or backwards from 6 to 12 o'clock to move up. If you need to move up or down further, just repeat.

I have the swiping turned off on my Apple TV Remote in the Apple TV settings. Are you telling me there's no way for me to select a route without using the swipe? Click does nothing for me at all.

Hi Shane! Now that it's almost Feb. of 2022, has Zwift finally given the new Apple TV remote full functionality? Do the ⬆️⬇️➡️⬅️ buttons work in the sub-menus? Also, what about graphics with the new Apple TV 4K 2021? Does it still provide LESS graphic detail than the 2017 version...missing shadow elements, etc.? I would love to see an update review of the 2021 Apple TV 4K where the initial limitations of the 2021 model are addressed. Are things there same? Better? Cheers, Mate

Not for me. I had one of those black Apple TV remotes and it worked fine, until it died. Just got a new silver one and it's driving me nuts. I can't select a route for example. Very frustrating.

Does anyone know how to turn in Zwift at intersections with an apple remote? Seems impossible but maybe it's something you have to do with the companion app if desired

Hi Shane, by accident i mentioned that my normal tv remote can be used with Apple tv 4k and Zwift. By using the buttons "exit" in game and with the arrows you can navigate without using the apple tv remote. I hate my apple tv remote, but this makes it a lot easier :-)

The odd of my ATV 4K 2021, the zwift app is somehow cropped on my TV screen. The edge has missing, and the curve on the below screen is not visible due to cropped screen.

What fresh hell is going on with the latest October Zwift update? They just removed support for Mac products? How bad are their developers that they just remove functional video for one of the two major consumer computer platforms?!? Can Zwift offer a more expensive plan that doesn't implement any update until it has been stable for two weeks? I'd pay more.

This update has COMPLETELY BROKEN the original controller beyond usability specifically when trying to select workouts…. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was going on. It has always been awful, but since last update it is almost unusable. Someone below mentioned the button function now works as ‘taps’ on the edges of the original swipe pad - which after testing it does. This makes complete sense. I used to clumsily scroll between workout folders, opening and closing different sub folders to find a workout I want on a given day. The lag and precision was always finicky, but I could at least scroll. With the new TAP parts on the touchpad though, the window for scrolling is even smaller and less precise. Scrolling between workout folders is fine, but as soon as you open a subfolder it is unusable. When you scroll up to close a subfolder of workouts and choose another, it jumps to the top of the screen. When you scroll to the bottom of the workouts in that subfolder it jumps to the bottom of the screen. If you back out of the menu to click on training again, it still has the same folder open and is a nightmare to navigate. I have limited workout time. It can now take 15mins just to select a workout. Absolutely ridiculous. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share this post as it just can’t stay like this 😭

I often fancy saving screenshots captured at end of my ride before clicking ‘Save’ and that I will have to rely on my ATV remote (can’t do it via Companion unfortunately) to make my selections of those I want to be uploaded to my Strava. The swiping/select screenshots captured on the old remote drive me nuts especially after a crazy hard ride 🥵 if I were to get only this new remote - this got to be one of the reasons worth getting it 😂

Do we know if Zwift will ever expand on the three long term challenges (Italy, California and the Everesting). Feels like nothing has happened on that front for ages.

New AppleTV4K functionality? I had my Kickr Core, Polar H10 HRM, Bluetooth headphones, plus the remote all connect to Zwift via the Apple TV. Had just installed the new tvOS 15. Can anyone else confirm that more than 3 devices, plus the remote, can be connected now?

It is better BUT it shows that Zwift don’t use the built in apple API of the remote. It it would have been the case no need to launch an update. Still some menu not compatible. Zwift still need to rethink the way to develop for apple product, this is a personal opinion but I have the impression the chief developer do not like Apple and never understood the way of developing App for Apple and Mac. No need to re invent the wheel.
