today I found a manufacturer in china who make new batteries for old nissan leafs like 62kwh - and it can give 485 km of range on the lcd panel, but a guy from that company did 567 on a one charge! Don't know the price yet. Cells are basing on new CATL chemistry This is their video ukposts.info/have/v-deo/kHKjg5mumKR4w2g.html I like the idea of restoring old ev with new batteries. Cheaper to run, cheaper to change. I yhink it s also good for enviroment.

Is this related to the vague, hand-wavy, "They can hack your car" arguments currently spreading wildly about Chinese EVs? I'm talking about the unanswerable allegations that Chinese EVs could "spy" on you, or, I guess, take real-time drive-by video of sensitive American sites, like gas stations and convenience stores. 🙂

Watching the start of this led me to a question: folks on this channel, and a good proportion of other electric vehicle advocates are also pushing for public transportation. Most aren’t saying that you shouldn’t be allowed to have a car, but some say that. And I think that there are probably some anti-EV fear mongers who would overblow that tendency. So the question: obviously, you bought a truck because you needed a truck, and you have your own vehicle, because your way out in kind of the wilderness and public transportation isn’t very convenient for where you live. Plus, it wouldn’t provide The kind of capacity you need for the work that you do. The question is, is there a public transportation option that could be installed that would make it so you wouldn’t need the truck? Or, do you envision that as long as people have to work for a living (notwithstanding AI making human work obsolete), there will always be a need for personal vehicles including pick up trucks?
@UlrichWulf
@UlrichWulf 8 годин тому
Trucks are an american thing. For example, there are none built in Europe. Viability of non-urban public transport depends on whether autonomous vehicles are going to be a thing by then. Otherwise you'll sadly still need an individual vehicle adapted to your transport needs.

I was comparing between a used 2022 and a new 2023, turns out they're the same price! I went with the 2023, but I'm actually not sure if it was the right choice. Normally when comparing a new or used vehicle of the same trim level it's a no-brainer, take the new one for the same price! But with the lightning I'm not entirely certain, there are just so many of these little things that were removed between 2022 and 2023. I actually worry that when we get to resale, 2023s will be very hard to sell, who would take one when they can choose a 2022 with more features or a 2024 with a heat pump? 5 years from now or 10, I'm not sure my 2023 will be desirable. And I do wish I had some of the extra features.

I've saved $7,700 over driving my gas car in three years. Is 1024 really a K? Now obviously 2 to the power of 10 is 1024 which is what IT geeks dwell on. However if you're thinking of "kilo" then it's 1000. So have can computer geeks overrule all the measurement standards for KM and KG.
@AnonymousFreakYT
@AnonymousFreakYT 15 годин тому
This is a whole argument in the computer industry. Yes, decades ago, nerds decided rather than to measure in actual kilo=1000, to just use the nearest power-of-2 number, 1024, because binary is hard. This was generally accepted in the computer industry through at least the late '80s. By and large, any use of "kilo" or "mega" in computers prior to the late '80s means 1024 or 1,048,576. Then scientific pedants started worming their way in, and wanted to redefine "kilobytes" and "megabytes" to mean the pure SI meaning 1000 and 1,000,000. Storage manufacturers *IMMEDIATELY* jumped on it, because suddenly it made storage look bigger. That's why "1 TB of RAM" is 1024*1024*1024*1024 while "1 TB of storage" is 1000*1000*1000*1000. Because if you measured them the same, that "1 TB drive" would only be 930 GB. Their solution? KB/MB/GB would refer only to power-of-10 proper SI prefixes, while inventing a new prefix "Ki/Mi/Gi" - Kibi/Mebi/Gibi - the last two 'bi' short for 'binary' for the power-of-2 prefixes. So a Commodore 64 would have 64Kibibytes of RAM, not Kilobytes. That "1 TB SSD" is a 930GiB SSD. That 64 GB RAM isn't actually GB, it's GiB. I'd say that among "computer enthusiasts", the "binary prefixes" are about 25% adopted. Yes, many OSes now use it, many don't. Those who support the binary prefixes are *VERY VOCAL* about it. To me? Computer measurements aren't SI standards. They don't have to obey SI prefix standards. binary use of SI-like prefixes is well established. I have no problem with the use of 1024 for K. --- When referring to computers. Obviously when referring to actual SI units (grams, meters, seconds,) you should absolutely use the proper K = 1000. BUT! Miles aren't SI. "Kilomiles" aren't an officially defined thing. So Nikki is absolutely free to tongue-in-cheek use "1K miles" for 1024 miles. Especially since everywhere written says the full 1024, not "1K".

Any system which works "most of the time" and requires "immediate" intervention at those other times will be problematic. The better it is at "most", the worse that intervention requirement becomes. It is inhuman to expect constant monitoring of a system that usually works, whether that system is a machine or even a person or persons. This is the automation equivalence to the "uncanny valley" of cartoons. If there were time available to step in, a human could do it. But you need to (a) recognize that you need to react; (b) understand the current situation and choose an action; and (c) take appropriate action. *Before* you hit that pylon or drive off a cliff. That's simply too much to ask . On the other hand, once the system actually does better than a human overall (less damage, less death) then even that risk would be a good trade for society, but not likely financially (lawsuits against systems and their companies will be held to a much higher standard than we are). Getting there, though, is, as they say, interesting times
