I think having the line up how it is, IS great! but here me out. the iPad mini and iPad are great for entry level and the current iPadOS experiences. the software however SHOULD be more "macOS" like for the iPad Air and iPad Pro because of the Hardware. Part of the reason why iPad Air is there is because of the middle ground pricing. it would be hard for consumers to jump between the $349 - $449 price and the only other option is $1,000+ iPad. Maybe apple can come up with their own version of Samsung DEX and name it "Continuity" to where you can enter a flexible macOS Final Cut Pro and use it as a touch screen for example. the fate of iPadOS is on June 10th

I don’t know about everybody else but I have a serious case of FOMO fatigue when it comes to Apple full stop. They need to stop making pointless iterations and get back to basics, and only release new products when they have a genuine innovation to sell…. Man, I miss the Jobs era….

I agree with dropping the „air“. But I don’t think the new pro is the killer of iPad. It’s an amazing device for normal people who haven’t updated their iPad Pro in a while. I have the pre-M chip iPad and now it’s time for an upgrade. With the new specs compared to the older iPad Pro, I’ll upgrade no question asked. People who own the M2 iPad Pro shouldn’t upgrade. Not all of the consumers are tech reviewers that buy every model ;)

I have got a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 inch with an iPad pen and magic keyboard. I was going to upgrade to the 2024 Pro iPad. When I saw the prices, and especially that you have to buy a 1TB to get the better screen, and I would need to buy a new pencil and magic keyboard, NO THANKS. TOO EXPENSIVE.

All pretty obvious - they're out of their minds and are even undoing their "good for the environment" marketing among the most hoodwinked. Mini, iPad, Pro is already the max of what they should have. And then ONE pencil. Having minor features included and not included depending on which consumable you buy is ridiculous when they're all overpriced to begin with. Make it a $99 pencil that does all the things and simplify the whole supply chain. The Pro should just have all the top stuff - getting an option to add $100 for the best screen if you get a 1tb model is ridiculous too.

You are absolutely right. Tim is playing to the shareholders and forgetting the customer. The most offensive thing to me is Apple’s complete oversight of writers and publishers. Just imagine what they could have done with iBook Author is they gave it the same treatment as Final Cut Pro and Pro Logic. Absolutely no incentive for me to move up from my M1 iPad Pro 12.9.

What's the excuse for not running macos on m series ipads? Apple seems to want to use the os's as a separation point to get people to buy both. Also the new ones are simply stupid thin. Thinner is not always better. I would prefer the feel of something a little thicker for a comfortable feel in hand. If your someone that uses it with keyboard all the time, it doesn't matter. I need a new ipad but this is the first time im looking at something else.

The basic model is the bast if not for the low storage. There should be an basic ipad with 1 terabyte minimum to store music and movies. Also make it smaller than the 11inch but a bit bigger than the mini. Forget about excessive processors and give massive storage and premium high res music capability.

If we can’t even imagine what we want iPadOS to really look like, we can’t ask Apple to build it. I think everyone wildly underestimates the difference between using your fingers as an input vs. the precision on a mouse.

Allow the pro models to use the Macmini ,Macstudio iMac. as a screen and mouse not needing to use keyboard mouse or monitor. B. Create a small device that can run mac os with m4 running in tandem with the other M4 in the iPad pro connected together giving it the performance of desktop using parallel processing then you can use this as a docking power station/hub this way you don't need to reinvent the wheel call it space dock or prodigy, Helios whatever. All iPad is needs is a universal menu bar. Would allow for more pro apps. You can lock windows when on one screen but use windows when connected to a monitor.

Now if only Apple would drop their extreme anti consumer practices under the guise of quality assurance and security, I would arguably say they could potentially be the best technology company that has ever existed. I would honestly love to purchase Apple products they are the best quality engineering hands down, but I simply cannot bring myself to spend so much on something I would forever be locked out of, and thus can never truly own, and know at any moment could be forced an update that I cannot refuse which may change the function of said device all without my permission, the person who has legally purchased the device.

I think the real make or break event will be WWDC when they're going to talk about the future if iPadOS.

Apple seem hell bent on going back to pre-Jobs, complicated, nonsensical lineup nobody understands. Add to that the problem of a new macOS, iPadOS every year with all the bugs and half baked implementations that entails and voila, modern Tim Cook Apple.

Here’s the thing that sucks about this, is the fact that I feel like this “upgrade“ was not really an upgrade. I don’t really like the new iPad Air. It looks nice, but it looks like you offered me a golf cart in exchange for my model X. You took away ultra wideband 5G, which sounds stupid I know, but it actually can be helpful at times when you need those fast speed. What’s going on with the camera module on the back, I don’t think we need cameras, but I don’t know it might be useful for some apps. The other thing I wanna ask is the fact that it looks like Microsoft was very successful with the surface pro series so why can’t Apple make something similar, you already have the touchscreen market, you already have most of everything going on there. I guarantee you a lot of people that need the PC , without the iPad experience would migrate over to using a Mac if you could make a Microsoft surface pro killer, you already have the tools you already have everything you’re throwing the most powerful chip that Microsoft can’t even keep up with into a iPad, it’s running on the same architecture that your MacBooks would. I really don’t think if you provided two different solutions like a surface pro killer and a MacBook I don’t think people will go after the MacBook less. Some people don’t want the touchscreen experience, some people want the basic laptop experience. But for someone like me who wants a sort of boat type situation and who owns an iPad, and a MacBook, and a surface pro I wish that I had a way to just have a touchscreen MacBook a.k.a. an iPad. But the iPad can’t run certain applications that my MacBook can and it doesn’t feel the same as what my MacBook can do. On a keyboard and mouse with an iPad Pro is a very, netbook Chrome OS experience. And I don’t like it.
