A genuinely stupid idea. The greater energy efficiency of railroads comes from the steel wheels and rails. Trains have as much as 99% less rolling resistance than driving on rubber tires. Long distance trucking never has been and never will be energy efficient.

Now there's an EU directive for Döner kebab as well. The Turkish lobbied it, now you need to buy 100 kg of beef to be able to call it Döner. (slightly exaggerating what it means, but the recipe in the directive calls for 100 kg)

battery swapping MAKES A LOT OF SENSE because charging batteries with 130kW and more puts serious strains on the batteries, so they will last way longer if charged at less kW.

A test once a year didn't sound much for crucial mechanics, but i checked and our Stormvloedkering and Oosterscheldekering in the Netherlands are fully test-operated once a year also. So i guess it's frequent enough.

This could be a good way to ensure safety against battery fires. Just drop the battery and rescue the car.

I grew up in Tyrol, Austria. There, the Schützengilden (shooters guilds) are very active too and a lot of villages have their own range. Mostly .22lr (small caliber) though as space is often limited and it's often within the village, so you don't want to disturb the neighbours too much. The village I grew up in also has a range that shot over the road. You couldn't even see it if you were in a normal shooting position, so no danger unless you do stupid things, which no one dared. That range I believe was in operation since sometime in the '60s and never heard of an incident.

There's no need for free-ranging motor vehicles of any kind, in Zermatt or anywhere else. An intelligently planned, fixed route streetcar system can handle all the needs of passenger and freight delivery. But most travel should be by walking or bicycling.

Only just caught up with this excellent video but one inaccuracy stood out to me. Back in the video tape broadcast days there actually weren’t 50 and 60 frames per second. Each frame was made up of two horizontal lines appearing consecutively. One odd and one even. These two lines - or fields - were interlaced into a single frame. 25fps for PAL and 30fps for NTSC. Once technology was capable of showing a full uninterlaced frame every 25 or 30 seconds interlacing wasn’t necessary and frames became progressive - like with film. To take older video and make it compatible with progressive technology you need to take the two odd and even fields and create a single progressive frame. I guess my point is back in the day the frame rate always was 25 & 30fps but each FRAME was made up of two FIELDS.
