Mount Paektu and the surrounding area was, and still is, largely inhabited by Koreans and Manchurians. Han Chinese only started to move into the area en masse in relatively recent times. Therefore, I would hesitate to call it a Chinese volcano.

a lot of this is incorrect. The MAIN reason is the New Madrid fault is the DEEPEST fault in the country. It goes all the way down to the mantle, it is NOT a slip fault. The earth is not billions of years old.

I have wondered if such an earthquake (or one somewhat lesser) may have effected the peoples at Cahokia causing them to abandon their city.

One more comment -actually a question. Do you think a somewhat similar mechanism was responsible for the formation of the Rocky Mountains in America? The Farallon plate supposedly undergoes a pretty drastic decrease in dip inland from the Cascade Mountains, which are similar to Japan. The Pacific plate, moving southwestwardly keeps pressing the Farallon plate westward. This would have been the main mechanism for the Laramie Orogeny.
@MarieJackson-sp3be
@MarieJackson-sp3be 21 день тому
At 20:56 you show high angle thrust faults when the Pacific plate bends to subduct. You called them normal faults. You just have your direction of faulting arrows wrong. They should be normal faults from the mechanics of the movement of the Pacific plate. Probably a drafting error. Nevertheless, this was an excellent presentation with suburb graphics. Thanks.

J. T. Wilson, aka J. Tuzo Wilson, was ridiculed at first, but what he said made sense to me (a geology undergrad student at the time). By the time I received my Masters Degree, his theory had been accepted. From all accounts, he was quite a character.

This video is highly flawed. The East Coast does not get earthquakes. There is no possible way for that to happen. The West Coast of the USA is the only place they happen.

Accept the worst earthquakes we know of in the United States are from the cascade subduction zone. The Pacific Northwest of the United States experienced a 9+ in 1700.

I live in Arkansas and have read and heard the stories of the ground being broken and all kinds of horrible damage happening when it went off. I remember experiencing my first earthquake in either 2010 or 2011, my bed started shaking and the guitars on my wall started rocking and hitting the wall. I still worry about it happening but even worse.

I was at work at a mill in NC sitting at a steel framed table on concrete floor reading newspaper. A co worker was across but off to side doing same. Suddenly I felt a quick but definite shake. Looking up he was looking at me and we both had that look on our faces. He asked the very question on my mind. " Did you feel that"? " I sure did, wonder what it was. We don't have earthquakes in NC so that didn't cross our minds but we had no clue what we both felt underneath out feet. He went back to work while I went to smoke shed and while having a cig my phone rang it was my g/f excitingly telling me , " we just had an earthquake " . " I felt it I interrupted her, telling her what we felt. This was the quake that the epicenter was under Washington DC a few years back that damaged the Washington monument. So yea I've been thru one albeit a very tiny one. That was enough for me lol.

This video got this guy disappeared, the Great comet of 1811 is the same comet as 12P/Pons-Brooks is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 71.3 years. the science claim is C/1811 F1 is a different comet...they are the same the dimensions are about 40km for both "different" comets. the weight, the gravitational pull of this object combined with the gravity of the supernew moon at perigee syzygy will pull on the water of our planets oceans and subterranean aquifers. just like the Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812. The earth is likely to see an increase in earthquakes for a short time, especially with the sun in the height of its sunspot cycle. These are facts. Facts that cause fear so a false identity for the "devil comet mother of Dragons" Has been given. comet C/1811 F1 and 12P/Pons-Brooks are the same 30-40 km cryovolcanic comet.
