I‘m convinced that what people really like is not a specific amount of cylinders, but that it’s high reving (>14.000 rpms) and that there’s no turbine in the exhaust which blocks the sound. A naturally aspirated V6 in that rev-range would sound great as well.

I think this the best sounding race car ever built, 333SP, 787B, T50S, Pagani and anything with a Judd engine or Coswoth V10, V8 or V12. Imagine this car at LeMans. I spent one whole day watching nothing but FXX Evoluzione track footage and the 333SP.
