My opinion? Just...write characters Their character doesnt always have to be about their gender Its okay to have one like that, but always try to make them more than that

I'm 45 seconds and I think you nailed a common problem with writing female characters. Many go off of basic superficial traits that defined past female leads like Sara Conner or Ripely, and I mean "SUPERFICIAL." As a writer myself who's who's had this weird circumstance of spending more time around women than I think any heterosexual guy should I write the character first then add the gender specific traits. Even though that varies from character to character and the circumstances they go through in the story. My point is I don't need to go by tropes when writing female characters, as I tend to do what Miyazaki did and pull from life experience.

There’s also a reason why the spot is the main villain tho, Miguel is probably right in some way and Miles is gonna have to be stopped, It’s not a coincidence that Miles story parallels Wilson Fisks story in the first movie Someone whose willing to destroy the world for their loved one

The first three pirates movies also hooked this effect in entirely as the events surrounding all these groups builds into multiple junctions, the Black Pearl curse, Will's family, Jack Sparrow's sheer infamy, Jones and Calpsyo's love story, the royal navy, there are plenty of opportunities where all factions can turn against each other or overcome their differences for a greater threat. This dialogue trick is only compounded by the sense that a big snowball is rolling down and gaining traction as all these disparate characters keep rubbing off on each other until Jack comes up with some bullshit that sounds heavily dangerous like flipping a ship over, but by now everyone is just used to it.

Before the D&D movie came out, the company who made D&D had a major scandal where they almost destroyed the entire community independent game designers that had been making 3rd party content for D&D for years. This turned a lot of D&D most rabid fans against the company and many boycotting the movie. A lot of people think that is why the D&D movie wasn’t as financially successful as the studio was expecting. It’s too bad because the movie was really good.

Okay lol I agree with most of this and you've taught me so much but as a bi dude I can tell you I won't watch something just because it has gay characters. That mentality is why Hollywood is in the shiter. I just watched some more and Jesus Christ that was bad advice representation doesn't make up for it being bad it just draws people in and then disappoints them you talk about indie creators but that was the most out of touch Hollywood executive shit I've ever heard what the hell man you're such a good writer don't tell people they don't have to try and make it good that's setting fans up to fail. It's my dream to be a published writer and you've taught me so much I follow so many and you're my favorite writing channel by far. I'm saving this video to my playlist to rewatch every now and then but for that alone I have to dislike the video. You set so many people up for success and I hope you keep up the good work.

Miles has went through the ‘canon’ though, his uncle died and the character moves are just like the others. So why does Miguel think his dad is the canon? That’s probably what makes miles different. He was hit by a spider from a different universe and has to go through more than any other spider

In the books Howl fell in love with Sofie because she cared about who he was not who he wanted to be perceived to be. There is a lot of the Wynn Jones book missing, in the ghibli film not least the ‘magic’ that Sofie makes and how her faith in others is really what makes her so special.

The reversal of the argument points is the dumbest thing about the movies. In the books, Aragorn tells Theoden to make for helms deep and Theoden wants to fight on the open field. When Aragorn makes his case, Theoden listens immediately.

I love when albeit tragic shows and movies have comic relief. There are soooooooo many things that are so cool to watch but zero comic relief. Arcane gives a perfect example.

Another thing I noticed with this was how easily Silco did the process himself in Episode 1, versus how he struggled to do it later on when Jinx wasn't there to help him. For a moment before she comes to challenge him about Vi, he sits in his chair and handles the device awkwardly, trying to aim it himself. This shows how much he grew to depend on Jinx.

My take on 'My neighbor Totoro' before watching your analysis: Every time the magic was introduces, before I experience a build up that seemed to lead to a cliff. Even the joy of the girls when the arrive at the new place seemed taken too far. Mei got that lump of wood falling over her head. They role in a grass field with a gigantic forest behind (where you will normally want to have maybe naigbours to play with instead of the big shadow of a gigantic old tree). The girls seemed to go so hard in turning everything into a positive event that I stood on edge for the bubble to burst and horror start pouring. And their bubble did burst. The spider-like stuff crauling in the kitchen, Mei getting lost in the forest and finding this giant troll, the desperation in the buss stop. Everytime the story presented the magic as something that supports the characters, the moment before felt like losing my mind, breaking my heart, puncturing my soul - the edge of a deep cliff and no turning back. The moments of magic were like bridge over the cliff that reality forced on them. And this bridges becomes bigger and bigger. Bigger and wierder creatures show up creating more awe and engaging more with the girls. It's like their internal world expands with what they need. And they seemed to need this reality only they could see in order to merge it with the actual reality and protect themselves from falling in the cliff. I think that my take is going in the direction you also touched, of the girls developing coping mechanisms to survive the reality as well developing of their identity by expanding their inner world with unique perceptions. Totoro is not something outside themselves. Totoro is the girls exploring and developing their magic powers. The magic power that makes sense of reality in a way that their need. They needed bridges over their situations and they powerd up through all the movie until those bridges provided more than survival, they provided means to move forward, move toward the real world and into it with curage. I love your analysis. Thank you!

I honestly kinda hate when movies are obviously trying to force quotable dialogue. There are exceptions, "Hasta la Vista, Baby" feels more like a fun callback that shows how the two characters truly bonded than it trying to be quotable, but when Spider-Verse did the "Watch the hands" and "'how will I know?' 'You won't know'" I kinda cringed

I thought that all of the characters were good, except for the black girl's mom. I think they were trying way too hard to make a "based" masculine female character. She just came off like a cringey douchebag. Also I didn't like the black girl either, she was acting in her own interest for the entire show and then Jayce falls in love with this selfish sack of malignance. And then she suddenly becomes vulnerable and is a good person for some reason, even though she was borderline evil 90% of the time when we saw her.

Another thing that helps is the performance. A great performance like the line “Inconceivable” from the princess bride or han solo saying “I know” in ESB And a bad/cringey performance can also make a line quoteable like how people say the prequels dialogue is awkward but nearly every line can be quoted even obscure ones. Which if you want to learn more about Id recommend watching a video which talks about how George is the master of “wooden dialogue”
