Every German i've ever known has been a cool and interesting person. I shared a flat with one for a few years. I love the Germans.

Im at the end of my apprenticeship and I’ve been into too much of discrimination, bullying, sabotaging, alienating from the group, sexual harassment and all was in an enterprise that had a good reputation… it was all a lie!! Working with Germans was a horrible experience for me, I had to fight for the bare minimum.. even my contract was not respected as they paid me less than whats on the contract and when I talked all thru the reaction was.. laughin at my face and telling me, we won’t take you seriously‘ . They even ended up ending my contract and my told me go Spanien, there good weather there, here is bad weather and there is nothing here.. pure racism. I will never ever work with Germans ever again!!

As an English person who has lived in Spain and Germany, I definitely found it easier to make friends in Spain (Barcelona). I have made almost completely foreign friends in Germany, despite speaking completely accent-free, fluent German.

However, I have never been made to feel unwelcome. That seems reserved for those who don’t look or sound German. My friends who don’t look German do get stared at a lot and sometimes remarks are made (this is in a small town).

What do the English think of Germans, the cause of 2 world wars, G.B, paid for the rebuild of Germany after WW2, Germany flooded Europe with unwanted migrants, German E.U, WEF, obnoxious Germans pushing their world and political views on Europe...Germany build up a war in the Ukraine (their war time accomplices) Germany no thanks.

I'm Norwegian but I still have an opinion. Germans are much like Norwegians in attitude: calm, and polite, but keep a distance. If you make a German (or Norwegian) friend, you have a friend for life. The Brits are much more superficial. They can be great when you meet them, but the day after they have forgotten you. Brits like to be sarcastic, they are definitely not calm if they love or hate something, and give them a couple of pints and they forget any politeness. They are kind of like mad dogs: Fun to watch but keep a distance. I live in East Africa and there, Brits are very racist it seems. You can never trust them as an honest friend. And they want to be at the center of attention all the time. But they sometimes speak good English.

Well, as hardly nobody learns and respects the norms of the Germans in their country, some directness is absolutely suitable if not even needed. Finally most people, who come to Germany want to benefit from a civilised system, that makes living together beneficial. So you have to follow the rules.

Germans: how dare you call us arrogant, we are so much more open minded than Austrians! But also, let me explain your country to you.... I actually don't find the German attitude towards us that nice. On the surface it might seem like it, but it is often quite condescending. When they say we have cute accents it almost sounds lile when you talk to a child who made up their own language. And I have even heard Germans correct Austria ns when they speak Austrian German, they often have this attitude that only German German is correct, everything else is dialect (which they don't value as much either, compared to Austria). I think a lot of Germans move to Austria thinking it will be just like moving to a different german state and then they are surprised that it isn't.

I'm from the US, I live in germany one year now and my parents are from germany so I luckily have a passport and don't have to deal with all the paperwork or at least very minimally, I definitley miss how friendly people are to strangers in a customer service sense, germans are very blunt and direct. This took a while to get used to lol.

The problem is most people only hear German shouted by actors in WWII films. ANY language sounds harsh when you yell it like a drill sergeant.

My father served in WW2 in the Navy, including the D day landings. Having survived he went to many meeting where Brits, French, Germans and Russian survivors. His preferences were Brits first obs, then German, then Russian then French. At all these meeting he said the Germans and British could have joined together to make an amazing Europe.

Just as a note: these foreigners have a strong and eloquent command of English. They also speak their language plus German. Conclusion: To stay in Germany you need 10x more education than needed to stay in USA wherein millions make it without even speaking English.

We visited Germany several years ago and went to a few places and Ulm was one of them, the old town is fabulous, Ulm minster is lovely and the view from the top is awesome. Germany is a beautiful country and the people were really friendly, I would love to go back some day.

I think we’re very similar. When conversing with some Germans, it’s really hard to place them as foreigners when speaking English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 right up until they get excited (happy or angry) then you realise ah, yup most definitely German 🇩🇪. I think we’re very similar especially up north. We have our traditions, we’re mostly polite but can be pretty outspoken when necessary. I like that they’re normal. Not showy, no heirs and graces. No matter what their financial status you’re going to see them without bling.

I lived in both countries and came from non European country. I would say, Germans are much more self centered and patriotic, but they find themselves and pretend open minded multicultural world citizens. On the other hand, Austrians look arrogant and patriotic but they are just proud of their rich history.
