The Buchan-Hepburns had a large house near East Linton called Smeaton-Hepburn. Sadly, it was knocked down after WW2, and there is no trace of it left at all. I believe that the Buchan-Hepburns moved to St. Andrews and are still there. The Dalrynples another local family with many branches lived at Newhailes near Musselburgh, and as the elderly sisters died, it was given over to the state. They have evidently done a great job of restoring it, and it is open to the public now. Those fields which you showed were owned by Lady Fairer at the farm in the video, and I have been told that she saw the white ghost wandering about, one moonlight night. I'm sure that Shug Harries will correct me if I am wrong, and may have a further bit of history to add to it. .......Tich.

Awesome video! Did you walk between most of these sites from Achnabreck or did you drive between most of the stops? It looks like there’s a good concentration in certain areas but others are more spread out.

Walking and driving combined. Kilmartin Glen is a highly concentrated area of ancient monuments, but there's a wee distance between others!

I'm a born and bred Englishman living on the south coast in various places most of my life, but this area has a strong connection to me as ive spent many holidays here man and boy. My grandfather was a scottish GP born in Kilmarnock decorated in WW1 but spent the last 10 years or so of his life north of the bridge in a house he built in the late 50s overlooking loch etive. My mums sister continued to live in the house, called Dundonald, until the late 90s when she moved down south to live out her remaining years. My parents were married in the church in 1962. I might live in England but this area is my spiritual home, and your video makes it plain to see why!

Campbeltown was the centre of the Herring Bounty from 1750 to 1799. It was the rendezvous port for the West Coast of Scotland and the biggest community in the Highlands next to Inverness. The vast fortunes made in this period was later transferred into Whisky distilling in the 19th century when the town had 38 named distilleries and was the Whisky capital of the World. Hence the large collect of prominent tombstones…..wealth displayed for all to see.

Thank you for this video tour of Greenock. I live in Philadelphia in the U.S., but both of my grandparents were born in Greenock. My grandmother was born in 1909 at 11 Kilblaine St. Her father and grandfather were carting contractors and used cart horses so it was interesting to hear about Ginger, the cart horse. My grandfather, born in 1901 at 6 Carwood St., was a ship modelmaker as was his father. I enjoyed seeing the town and learning some of the history.

Well many thanks for the video, l think Rothesay is really trimendous I've been there, I've also stayed there for a week & whilst there l went out to Ettrick Bay for my lunch which is very good, the cafe is just off the beach, now if you would like to go out to Ettrick Bay, if you come off Rothsay pier turn right & keep on that road till you come to a fork on the road, take the left fork & keep on that road till you come to a lot of hedges on the left hand side of the road & Ettrick Bay cafe is on the left hand side of the road, whare there is plenty of parking so enjoy yourself at the cafe, also there is a nice big beach, also some times when the tide is out small planes land and take off from the beach so enjoy your stay on Rothesay.
