Thrilled to have just discovered your channel. Thank you for this beautiful and informative content! :) Could you tell me the dimensions of this bed by any chance? Looking forward to continuing to follow along as I set up my own vegetable garden!

Welcome! This bed was 80 cm wide by 5 meters long. Good luck with your garden!

@@TheDutchFarmer thank you so much for your help! Does this include the wood chipped areas as well, i.e. 15 cm wide for each wood chipped row and 50 cm wide for the composted bed itself for example? Really appreciate your help :)
@TheDutchFarmer
@TheDutchFarmer 12 годин тому
No! In general, the woodchip pathways are anywhere from 20cm (really narrow) to 40/50 cm (enough for a wheelbarrow). Compost beds are at 80 cm. This is standard size for market garden beds. You could also opt for 1.2m wide beds (called "double-reach") but I personally prefer the 80. Makes it easy to walk and move around and harvest. Hope that helps ;)

Most of the domesticated fruit trees except the wild ones, like bear berry or hazel nut, for example, need continuous human presence and care. Especially if you want them to yield fruits.For example the biggest almond plantation in Dalmatia. During the Serbian rule, which lasted only a couple of years, the trees were not taken care of and almost all of them died out. Or mulberry trees which were abundant in the mountain villages all died out soon after the inhabitants left the villages and moved downwards.

I wish some company would sponsor me with 14000 euro solar system. Looks great that Bluetti! Only downside is the app. In 10 years does it still exist for the phones we use then? Would be better with a simple panel with info, or having possibility to connect to Home automation system.

Not interacting with people is something I do well with. The lack of running water, electricity, slow or satellite internet, the need to have a product or other way to pay property taxes, those are things I would not do well with, and I also do not have the money to buy land (I'd need to convince someone to essentially gift me it). If I can ever accomplish a high degree of land ownership, I will consider going full "living off the land", which will also include cut-rate long term land rentals to close and distant friends as I could not hope to have a use for a lot of land by myself. Have you been saving seeds where possible?

In terms of easy access - do you intend on building wheelchair accessible infrastructure (including possibly macadamizing the roads and walkways), at least to go from the access drag to any living space, even if not necessarily gardenoids? You may need it if you should, I beg of the gods to forbid, break or lose a leg, and I don't want you SOL and unable to take advantage of all your work on your homestead in that case. It may also be necessary if you find you can only get around with an ebike or bicycle, which are also mobility aids like wheelchairs, though not usually seen as such.

My understanding is that opuntias are an invasive species of Union concern. That doesn't mean I don't think you should use them, but I think they're illegal. Do you grow olives? I assume the olive grove remnants aren't throwing up olive suckers that you could propagate?

Love the channel and thought I'd share a thought about something ive seen for the future. Ive seen folks start to mount their panels a few meters above the ground and the ground underneath can be used for sensitive plants that need protection from the direct sun/hail/harsh weather. Just an observation for the future.

Europe needs more Dutch farmers not less. Come to Transylvania we Hungarians are already mostly reformed, some churches have connections and the land here is more fertile as we get far more rain. If your own government does not want you, come here and bring your skills. Plenty of aging villages with good land and in need of people like you exist here.
