Dude, please get back to this channel! Your stuff is real very interesting. Particularly more interesting because of the quality and cleverness injected in your a material. I like the way you expresartify (my own word) the way in which you express your particular art. (ex'press'art'tify)

very sort of odd yet somewhat curious guitar tone/style that you've got going there. I haven't quite figured it out yet. I especially like the audio and the guitar playing (portion) of the video track, are slightly (yet cleverly misaligned (out of sync)! nicely done. Works well as a tool to help your content, or vids stand out in the heard. Just mho. Cheers man! I rather like the way that you glance inquisitively at the pickups.

Compliments for the nice swirling paint and building process, to avoid hum, scratch the internal paint where the jacks in-out and pots touch the box, by sand paper and clean by alchool isoprop (preferred).

It might be proximity to the neodymium magnet when you do the pass, but I wonder if the length of each magnet rod is a factor. Your Gauss readings don't seem to correlate well to height as drawn, but I wonder if there is more variety in the heights than is shown in your drawing. Also, there might be some variation in the alloy that affects charging.

did you wired the schematic as it was standard, or did you make any mod? like, did you install grid stopper resistors on the cathodyne phase inverter?

Nice vid, however, I cringed when I saw you use that gigantor of a wire clipper in the end. Get a very sharp high quality small jawed clipper, and nip each wire individually. You will be happy with the end result.

World's smallest marketplace: whizzers for guys with 1950s amps who are Neil Young impersonators on the weekend. Anybody making money on the Neil Young impersonation gig? Does he use the whizzer in the middle of a particular song, where you can't just dial in the tone beforehand? I'm cracking up. I just can't believe how many of us have landed here.

I would seriously look at getting a temperature soldering iron with the correct sized bit Neil, I can almost see that bit going cold as you attempt to make the bigger joints ! It would also remove the need for a heatsink when soldering resistors, as the joint would be made much more quickly. S www.redtapemusic.net

I wouldn't bother heat-sinking carbon comp resistors during installation. If a little heat manages to damage it, it's already faulty. Also, if you use a higher wattage iron with a larger tip, or a gun, you'll get the joint to temperature more quickly and less heat will soak into the component anyway.

I got a standard 6V6 kit 5e3. What should i replace to introduce 6L6 tubes like Neil? New output transformer, a 5AR4 rectfier, a 200 Ohm / 10 watt cathode resistor, ... That's all?

@@ffs_auggie This guy‘s amp already sounded well overdriven with quite a bit of treble. The pedal does not make your sound super fuzzy like this per sé. Usually the rangemaster is put on bass amps, with heaps of low end, to kind of tighten the sound it’s awesome.

Hello Friend. My wife thinks its funny that that there is another Neil freak out there (she had no clue to who he was til she met me. im 53 and have been followin his carrer since 13. however, when "Trans" came out, i found myself scratching my head! Its like NEIL, " what the $%^&*&?" We have watched your video many times and think you have done a very nice job of integrating some comedy into your video. we are currently trying to assemble the infamous 5F1. poor results first time around but still got back in the saddle. If you ever feel like swapping stories....we're here. God bless....

Health standards say limit exposure to 1-3 milligauss (1/1000s). These pickups are putting out hundreds of GAUSS, not milligauss. Pressed right up against a person's abdomen. Frank Zappa, Bill Wyman, Howard Roberts, Lemmy, Steve Stills, Johnny Ramone - I've got a list of about 35. All prostate cancer. Right where those pickups sit.

I worked for a prominent loudspeaker manufacture back in the 90s. We shipped out a large quantity of speakers that inadvertently didn't go through the charging station. They all were returned to the factory. No sound ! We had to laugh a bit ! Sometimes that happens !

Very interesting. You can flatten out the pole pieces on a staggered strat pickup by applying a small amount of heat on the pole piece and it will push thru the bobbin easily. I did this on a waxed pickup. If you wind the pickup and then charge the magnets leave the stagger flat until right before you wax dip the pickup etc. A wood jig holding the pickup may work good so the magnets cannot touch the charging magnets and slide them thru with the thin wood touching the charge magnet. This would keep the pickup flat and straight against the charge magnet. Same thickness all the way across.

Perhaps you should try a wooden or plastic channel in between the charging magnets so you can slide the pickup you want to charge between the magnets in a more controlled fashion. You also need the charging magnets much closer together for the strongest field possible and a guide channel should allow you to do that. In theory if the magnets in the pickup are subjected to a strong enough field they will saturate - it won't be possible to increase the strength of the pickup magnets any further. Then if you still find large variations in pole strength it must be due to variations in the magnet alloy of each individual pole. Longer magnets will take more charge, so if the magnets in the middle of the stagger are longer they should be stronger. Getting the two charging magnets as close to the magnets to be charged as possible is crucial to getting a saturated charge in the pole magnets - magnetic field strengths diminish by distance from a magnet by something approximating a cube law. Also I suspect that taking accurate individual measurements of 6 magnets in a row in a pickup might be very sensitive to the exact position on the probe over each pole, since the fields from each magnet interact. You should try repeating your measurement procedure several times to see if you get consistent results.
