I do not speak nor understand the French language, but when I heard this song the first time and over again, I was quite intrigued. However when I looked up a variety of translations, I lost interest. To me it is not beautiful nor intriguing poetry, and I lost interest in the song altogether. I think it’s a “guy” thing. I think women will be intrigued, but men will not. Men are usually not interested in displays of self doubt where there is nothing to gain. We go through periods of self doubt all the time, but we would not tend to make poetry out of it, for Pete’s sake. Women, however do have a deeper sense of self, brought on by the need for depth of understanding the “self” by their tasks in life to bring up babies, young children adolescents, young adults. They watch young girls come to the understanding of “self” and they watch young boys blow off the understanding of “self” and go back to their ball games. Well, it is still good for men to understand that there are human beings that have depth of understanding that go beyond the self, I’m just glad that us guys don’t have to understand it. We are made for a different task. 😎
