I wish you were in and around the Houston area because we've had no working air since the beginning of March. It's currently 90 degrees in our home. We were told we need an R410 expansion valve and a Goodman 5 ton condenser unit. It's going to run us $4,000 and we don't have it. She looks like she's getting a little bit weak from it being hot and my liver feels like its burning and my intestines hurt from being hot. We have fans but its barely helping 😭

just invent a lock on which the turn of the key blocks the latch as well. Or have a snap latch and a lock latch like it´s standard in a hundred countries since a hundred years.

I do use those in the summer house. Guess I'll start using a filter with a little less flow resistance. In the main house we've got one of those whopping big half a foot thick filter mechanisms. Not sure whether it was worth it or not but it works well for us. There's no need for such a good filter in the summer house anyway, it's not exactly a modern air tight house. No matter how much the filter removes more is always coming in :)

If you have cottonwood in your area, be sure to hose off your coils when the fuzzies are airborne! I just gently hose off at an angle from top to bottom with the system off and it washes right down. That stuff can quickly clog your fins and make your system a lot less efficient.

How about comparing it to commercial grade back wiring? Is decora edge as good as back wiring on commercial grade outlets?

Thank you so much! This was so helpful to see what’s going on and why my plug was not staying in my outlet. I so appreciate your detail and visuals to explain what was happening. Meanwhile, I took my rain machine plug and squished the prongs together, stuck it in the wall and it’s good to go. You are a lifesaver. You earned some good karma tonight!

You completely missed the point. It's all about airflow over the cooling coils inside the evaporator. If you restrict airflow Freon coming up from the compressor Will not properly boil away and return super misty, ie. Not a gas, to the compressor. The evaporator will tend to get super cold and begin freezing up because the airflow is not what it should be. Very very dense filters restrict airflow. It's not efficiency it's keeping your AC system alive and avoiding leaks in your system. This is hardly a efficiency concern, of more concern it's all about protecting the health of your AC unit from freezing up because the Freon is not boiling off properly it gets super cold up there and ice forms all over the coolant coils and that could create leaks that was cause your system to be worthless cause you can't really repair leaks. I can't believe video didn't make a better point about this

If you are building/own a home you can compensate by having a bigger/oversized filter to still have good airflow. I have never used them but there is UV lights that can be installed in the HVAC system to kill most bacteria, mold, viruses, etc. I am not sure if those are a good idea or the issues with them however. I would suspect that is not for most people.

In what way is the filter putting more strain on the system as it filters out more particles? What do you mean when you say "more strain"? Aren't these HVAC systems designed with the consideration that some people will use higher efficiency filters? "More strain" in what way? Surely the fan motor won't be affected because the squirrel cage fans are not going to bog down with the slightly greater air flow restriction.
@HowToHomeDIY
@HowToHomeDIY День тому
It’s going to restrict airflow. Any time something is restricted it puts strain on the system. The system has to work harder. Ask any AC tech. Almost none will recommend high MERV rated filters and they will have stories and probably pictures as to why.

@@HowToHomeDIY not a definitive answer at all. I work in an engineering field where every physical aspect is taken into consideration of design. I would expect the same is true for designers of HVAC systems. I would also expect that if higher efficiency filters were detrimental to the function and longevity of HVAC systems, after all these decades of engineering there must exist hard data to support the position you propose in your video. Where’s the data?

I use Filtrete 3M 1085. Not sure of MERV rating, have used 12's in the pass. Two dogs, cat and live in the desert. Filter replaced every five weeks no matter what type. Only seeing dust across that filter and no pet hair. May have to invest in a few air purifiers. How often are you you replacing filter. Mine is 20x25x1.

I've never used wirenuts here in Belgium, they exist here though. Also, I've tried some clones of the wago (they came along with the lights I bought and were pre-installed and were not of the WAGO brand but something else) but they didn't keep the wires inside, you could very easily pull them out, even without any force like you showed with the wago's clamp opened up. My main method to connect wires together is chandelier clamps (lusterklem in Dutch). The copper part fully sits inside a plastic casing and you screw the wire tight. For optimal connection, you can strip the wire a bit longer so it sits below both screws at once. I've never had a wire come loose from one of those unless you tightened the screw so hard to crack the metal part inside which makes the connection, or where the screw was damaged.

I use a merv 16 filter in my HVAC. 20x20x5 size. The actual pressure drop measured is lower than the merv 8 filters i was given and hasn't changed more than 0.01 wc at 650cfm after 8 months. The rated pressure drop is just 0.10 wc at 650cfm at 0.25 wc at 1400 cfm. By far the biggest factor to filter restriction is the quality of it. Buy yourself a cheap merv 6 from filterbuy and you'll have more restriction than a well known brand like Honeywell or 3M merv 13. Do some testing yourself or look up some independent testing to confirm.

Merv 13 3m 1900 has one of the lowest pressure drops out there.
@Jaker788
@Jaker788 День тому
I think it's time we get away from this misconception that a higher merv rating means it's actually much thicker or more restrictive. We'll take 3M for example, their merv 13 filter is LOWER restriction than their merv 8 and it stays that way as it captures particles over 3 months. Higher merv rating means more expensive and complex material to efficiently capture smaller particulates, not just more and thicker material. We have masks that filter 95% of particulates and ultrafines, N95 uses the same methods that high merv filters use. Air purifiers are also kinda scammy snd you should not trust their built in air quality sensors, a good PM 2.5 sensor is $200, anything under that is unreliable. HEPA filters really don't move enough air to actually clean the air or keep up for a full room or house. A proven option by many agencies testing is simply a merv 13 filter box and a fan, the air movement is significantly higher and quieter. 80% filtration efficiency but the processing rate is more important than single pass filtration efficiency when kt comes to purifying a whole room. Further, carbon filters are far far too little material to actually take anything out of the air in a meaningful way or last very long, it's marketing unless you use a few pounds of fine grained carbon.
@HowToHomeDIY
@HowToHomeDIY День тому
It’s not a misconception. And have you ever worn an N95 mask for a while and then switch to a basic surgical mask? The difference in how you can breathe is pretty dramatic.

I have 3 dogs (rough coat collie, golden retriever and a terrier mutt), and a cat. We also live in our home, for example, in the morning, I like to open the windows and get a breeze through the house, etc. I see no point in making any attempt at trying to capture pollen, dander or anything else - unless your house is a completely tight sealed house (newer ones are). Mine was built in 1989, so I just don't see the point of trying to purify anything. What am I missing?

I’m sold. I really like the wago except for how easily the levers can be manipulated, so I’ve used tape as a precaution: a process that that is time consuming and in convenient. Seems the ideal ones have solved this issue, thus really making them the best choice. And that locking down lever tab- brilliant. Wago now needs to catch up.

I have a question not relating to fishing wires, we have an older house (1949) and some renovations had been done prior to us moving in. The major one being flood lighting for the backyard. They installed it on a hot circuit, and to my understanding the lights are either on a timer or solar indicators. The lights are CRAZY bright and we have resorted to cutting the breaker to them each night. This obviously is a major hassle and we want to route the lighting to a switch somewhere. The flood lights are tied in to a breaker that handles lighting for our living room and a chunk of the upstairs. How hard would it be to isolate the flood lights, tie them into a new breaker and set them to a switch? The interior walls are cement board as far as I can tell, I have a full basement so routing wire wouldn't be a huge problem.
