LOL what can the government do about climate? what a joke. Although now we can adjust our growing times with artificial means. Then it was nature and nothing could be done when people are so ignorant.

Artemidorus is time traveler who failed in his mission to safe Caesar, unless changing past was impossible in general..? Maybe it was a test done by future mankind, he had to do something for someone famous so historians were sure to report on it incase returning back to future was impossible for them..?

I want to add that for a lot of office jobs actual productivity during the day is not the full time on you work. Socializing, browsing the web, smoke breaks, and so forth, it all adds up. On the flipside, in medieval societies a lot of people had other things they had to do that took up far more time than what we are required to do nowadays. So there is a lot of nuance that can change things. As for me personally I work a 4 day workweek, which changes the balance significantly, with an acceptable drop in pay.

Rewatching this video with more education makes me hate the way my school framed Spartan government. 5 randomly selected people pass laws on things like morality and social conduct and the voting process has NO debate just simple majority?? You hear about how ever male was required to vote in school and at least for me that was framed as kinda cool but ffs can you imagine how that came about??? I'd bet a lot that some of the most annoying people passed that law and then continue to introduce obtuse bullshit.

Thank you for the engaging and educational video! Since the birth of the Greek City states European affairs were periodically oscillating between uniting and breaking apart. It is sticking that at the time of the Vienna Congress the political systems of the Western countries and Russia were already so far appart. Smaller and weaker nations had no chance of self determination at all. About 200 years later Great Britain "disengage from the European Continent" political direction is still a alive and resulted into self isolation labelled "Brexit". Russian imperialism is still waging wars when current ruler throws a tantrums. Hungary elite are skillfully playing all sides to enrich themselves. Someone said that "history repeats itself". Very chilling thought...

25:00 pretty ironic, considering most of the french descend from the franks, who succesfully wiped out the gauls. especially considering france was behaving a lot more like the romans than like the gauls in the 19th century.

i know this video is half a decade old but i'd like to make a correction: Marcus Caelius Rufus, the guy arguing for debt abolition at the start of the video, was no longer tribune at this point but had been aedile and then appointed praetor peregrinus by Caesar! He'd wanted to be praetor urbanus (and would likely have won in a fair election), and so he started aggravating the people of rome, trying to beat caesar at his own populist game. in the end, his fatal mistake was trying to turn Caesar's veterans against caesar (together with milo, clodius' killer), and got killed in this uprising.

This whole story sounds so similar to modern times in America. The only real difference is that the assassinations are only to reputations in the press and internet now. I will leave it to you to work out who is which character today.
