@DarthValificent

Could not agree more . When comparing the greats people always forget that we never actually saw Ali's best years as they were taken from him. When he came back he was great but a shadow of what he was before. And even then he still came out on top in what was undoubtedly the golden era of heavyweights. Ali in his absolute prime is just insane and no heavyweight yet could live with that.....

@Axe_Slinger
@Axe_Slinger Рік тому
Right off the bat that George Foreman power is SOOO unbelievable! It was such a nonchalant punch, lazily tossed out there, with no expectation of it doing much damage, although this was coming off a knockdown I mean just look at the way that his head was turned, looking away as it landed, until he heard the audience's collective gasp so he snaps his head back around to look for the reason that caused the crowd to react the way it did. He sees his opponent frozen in place, like a statue, so he then tries to land a "haymaker" which was clearly not necessary because he was already on the way to the canvas! If it hand landed cleanly he probably would have killed the guy! Edit - I should mention Gerry Cooney, the guy who got knocked out, didn't have an amazing chin but I think it's safe to say that he was considered to have had a "better then average" chin. His downfall was that his defense was lacking and he rarely tried to clinch when he got hurt. He was brought along too fast and I think he truly believed that his incredible left hook gave him his best chance to win rather then trying to clinch, and defend, until he got his head clear! I think that had he had a better team of handlers he would've become the, "Great White Hope" that everyone expected him to become! One of the best Heavyweights to never win a world title belt. He had a record of 28-3 (24 KOs) when he retired. His 3 losses were to Larry Holmes, in 1982 for the WBC Title (he was 25-0) - Michael Spinks, in 1987 for a lineal world title (he was 28-1) - George Foreman in this fight in 1990 (he was 28-2). He also didn't fight very often, due to injury issues and poor management!
@greygolem
@greygolem 2 роки тому
Jefferson's short left hook in a barely standing state is a testament to why you NEVER drop your defense and think you have it won, and why you never stop fighting. You have to always think about your next opportunity and swing.

I always love watching that uppercut/hook Foreman drilled Cooney with. And the right hand that seemed to literally drill him into the canvas. So damn smooth. Reminds me of the Smash punch of Ruddock, and also Margarito's punch vs. Cotto in both fights. Foreman actually drilled Holyfield with that shot a couple of times and even the 208lb Holyfield didn't go anywhere. One of the greatest chins of all times. Holy said he went to his corner and asked, "did he knock all my teeth out? I think all my teeth fell out?" And his corner said, "Nah Real Deal, you're fine", but Holy said, "i know they'll tell you anything in your corner to get you to keep fighting, so I was still convinced I had no teeth". Ha. What a tough SOB.

@@waynebuckland7879 It's not that hard to beat, actually. It's simply about careful matchmaking, if you know how boxing really works. A manager, promoter, trainer and matchmaker all get together to decide who their fighter is best-suited to face next. If someone is deemed too dangerous, you avoid them and choose the next guy ranked below or further below, etc. And it carries on like that until you get to a title shot. Marciano was 42-0 when got his shot against Jersey Joe Walcott but the only name on his record was a washed-up Joe Louis and a lucky decision over Roland LaStarza. Brian Nielsen got to 49-0 just by facing a combination of bums and has-beens, while turning down a WBC title shot against Lennox Lewis.
