Blacktail epoxy table workshop: www.blacktailstudio.com/the-e...
This wood slab kitchen island was one of my biggest woodworking projects to date. It was also my first kitchen island/woo countertop project! Made from a single piece of locally salvaged Black Walnut and the voids filled with jet black epoxy resin. This slab started out at nine feet long and over five feet wide. Rough cut by me and the final shape was precision cut by a CNC. I even decided to deliver this one personally and help with the installation. Let me know if you have any questions about the build!

I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? @Chris____. 2 роки тому
@@sofreshsogreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D

"Would have wood!!" We had a wooden island while growing up, and after years of young children being.... Well.... Children.... The wood had dozens of marks and rings. We learned to love it, as it really just added character to our home. This is absolutely beautiful, and looks awesome in the cabin!!

I had my cheap formica countertops completely removed last year and went with treated rubber wood. I've wanted cutting board countertops for years now, and finally have them. No, not 15k worth, 😂 but I'm happy for what I have!! Thank you for the great videos.!

Wood. Don’t stop the commentary because thoroughly talking us through your process is so interesting and it also shows us what a decent man you are. Most people try to add costs onto the order but you seem so honest. You’re more interested in your clients satisfaction than you are about money. Very rare these days.

I barely have time to get through all the videos that I would like to watch, let alone getting into some of your training videos but someday, I will find the time. Just wanted to drop a like and thank you for sharing your skill, love for the wood and ideas and willingness to add in voice overs to your videos. I grew up in a house built in 1820, all out countertop surfaces were hard wood, mostly walnut, the wood was stained from daily use, was gouged, burned and in some areas worn, but it was so beautiful. Our home was featured in Country Home magazine, as my mom is also an artist that painted historic homes around East Berlin, PA. The counters took center stage.

Beautiful work! To answer the question "Would or wouldn't wood?" - I would go with "Wouldn't" for a kitchen island. What you did in this video is a masterpiece but even if it was a regular piece it would really need to be pampered if it was to be preserved. Table, bar top or pretty much anything except for a cooking surface, especially warm kitchen - this is the way to go for style points.
@JayDee-xj9lu
@JayDee-xj9lu 2 роки тому
I have the liquid glass as a finish and you don't really need to pamper it. It is so tough. You can always sand it and refinish it. If you have a granite top and place something hot or oily on it, it could be ruined for life. I've seen a $20,000 granite top and it had a large circle permanently etched into it.
@diggerpete9334

Having heat insulated place mats for kitchen utensils when cooking to preserve the wood. But yeah, for a kitchen to be function over form that wood would mark or dent very easily. At $15000 I'd have to have a cheap counter top to use instead.
