Blacktail epoxy table workshop: www.blacktailstudio.com/the-e...
This extending dining table was one of the toughest woodworking projects I've ever taken on. I partnered with Nikon to make this video on the Nikon Z 6II which, as you can see, seriously upped my video quality. In the end, I made an extendable walnut dining table that goes from 108" (275cm) to 140" (355cm) with two continuous grain (mostly) leaf extensions to make it a totally functional expanding table. When not in use there is no visible hardware, screws, or brackets that get in the way of daily use. The wood I used is locally salvaged black walnut. I used two sequential slabs, also referred to as a bookmatch. Bookmatched tables form a symmetrical, mirror image of each other and are my favorite style of table. You could take everything applied to this table and use it with your own DIY live edge table project. Whether it was a bookmatched live edge table or a single slab natural edge table, this continuous grain leaf extension would work. #Sponsored

Jordan Bock I totally agree. Great projects and loving the table Cam. Will you make chairs or benches to go with ? I am appalled by the price of raw wood. I am a fan of oddly shaped off cuts which can include the bark like used to be found in old type woodyards which always had a huge heap of pieces which were inexpensive which you could trample over and move stuff around to find what you wanted. The old guy who owned it a mine of info about types of wood and what was best for the thing you were making. We lose expertise and knowledge every day sadly. We need your channel badly - a bit of a poem ! 🤗 🦩

I also work alone when doing projects, so its interesting to see how you do some heavier things. Love the leaves. Trying to get a seam in wood to look like it isn't there is almost impossible. Cam that patchwork wood looks really cool. 15-30 minutes as long as you complete the video the length should what the video calls for.

Cam, I’m annoyed that I tend to go for the quick videos but yours seem to be an exception. Never boring, always educational. I always watch until the end.

Whenever I'm faced with the question of how long a video or written document should be, I think back to my Sophomore year of HS and the advice of my English teacher. She said that "the length of a paper should be like the length of a woman's skirt; long enough to cover the subject but short enough to still be interesting." It's the only thing I learned in high school that I still use on a regular basis.

Cam... I like any timing. When I'm busy, I put the videos on 1.5 speed to watch for ideas and slow down when it's important. So the long videos are great.

Cam, just catching this video two years late. I can't say I care for how the extension rails are done. Being a tall person if there is going to be anything sticking out under a table it needs to go just shy of the length of the table. I'm tall and if there is anything that I can catch my knee or leg on, I'll catch it. Regarding levellers, always use levellers. The floor might have started out perfect but buildings shift as they age. Regarding the length of the video, I don't know what it is but I struggle less watching your videos than I do on some videos that are less then ten minutes. Your videos are just that easy and enjoyable for me to watch.

Cam, the project determines the length of the video. It needs to be as long as it takes to demonstrate how and what is entailed. Stunning result and the walnut stretcher was gorgeous, and the table top, totally unique and breathtaking.

Cam, I think 30min is the perfect video length, as long as it's full of detail and not fluff, which yours never has. New camera gave beautiful detail. Thank you Nikon. The table is beautiful. Great job, as usual. Your responses to trolls at the end of your videos always tickle me. God Bless.

Cam, As a schoolboy in Wales, I did not pursue woodwork because I wanted to leave school with a full complement of digits on each hand. I am abysmally clumsy, and wholly without practical ability. For me, DIY is destroy it yourself. Your dexterity, your confident use of equipment and your problem-solving capabilities are truly worthy of admiration. Watching you work is fascinating. Your often amusing and always enlightening commentary is also enviable. Marvellous!

Cam, i'm an amateur woodworker who aspire to, one day, live from this work. The moment you realized you cut the extension wrong, i felt it in my gut. Even when you measure once, twice, thrice, mistakes happens. When i do it, i feel furious with myself, and i tend to abandon what i'm doing, to never come back. But you said "i bit my tongue a little bit, took a walk around, and then came back and did it the right way". These words reached me. They made me realize it's ok to make mistakes, you just need to take a deep breath and start over. Thanks for your videos!

Cam, Please never stop showing the finishing process, watching the grain pop on all these pieces give me chills, I love the work you do. Regarding video length, This old house would never have worked in 3min episodes, and a cutting or charcuterie board video would almost never work at 30min, your videos are perfect, we get to see the full process and the finished product with the few happy accidents thrown in.
