Yes, I remember my Mom having a Sarah Coventry Parting in the early 60s. It was just like Tupperware in that one friend would have a party and then convince her best friends to 'book a party'. At the end of the day, the entire group of friends had ended up going to numerous parties and buying more than they wanted or needed...because it was for a friend. It would eventually just become too much and a few feelings would be hurt. It would start all over again with Tupperware and then Stanley... LOLOLOL

So when Hans asked me if he could keep his mom’s ring for his daughter I just hugged him and said, “With my love added with your mom’s. Yes. I think the small gold leaf is a gold-dipped Maile leaf from Hawai'i. Maile is an endemic climbing vine with fragrant leaves that is used for high status lei. In the 80s and 90s they were dipped in gold to create necklaces and earings. Not of huge value, but nostalgic. The pair of drop earings you thought might be bone carved into rose blossoms might also be from Hawai'i as they resemble a style of jewelry made in the Islands carved or molded to resemble a jasmine blossom that was called Pikake, in honor of Crown Princess Ka'iulani. The Princess, who loved a particular variety of jasmine, kept pet peacocks at Ainahau, her Waikiki estate, so, in Hawai'i the flower was named Pikake in memory of the Princess of the Peacocks. Not terribly confident in my IDs as it was a quick look.

U are 100% correct, bcuz I own one. I just couldn't remember where I got it until I read your comment! 😂 My father took my sister and I on a 7 country/2 week adventure thru Asia. Our last stop was a 2 day stopover in Hawaii, at which point we were told we would be flying home alone while they stayed in Hawaii! (we were 18 and 20 and already living on our own). My Dad had decided to fly his 2 sisters out to meet him and his new wife in Hawaii, where they would get to spend an additional week, and then all come home together. My aunts had never really been too far from the small MO town we all came from. Both were very hard working single moms by then, and neither had money for such exotic travel. When he came home he bought each of them a new car as well. I found out later that my Dad had been diagnosed w/Prostate Cancer and thought he was dying. Thank God he survived and lasted another 35 years! 💝 Thanks for reminding me where my gold leaf came from, as well as remembering that beautiful time w/my Daddy and Aunts who have all now passed on to bigger things. 🙏🏽 ✌🏼

The maile leaf/lei is a symbol of respect, peace, friendship and love...those and "olivine" jewelry were very popular. a pale green glass made from lava there. soooo much of it. ugh. kept getting the most garish jewelry gifts from them (thank goodness it was the thought that counted more) olivine is sometimes used as the birthstone "peridot". i think Madame Rac had quite a bit of olivine jewelry and several gold dipped maile leaves.

Just a hint so you don't miss anything. Get a 10x loupe and use it everywhere on every piece. Also, just because it is in a box, certainly does not mean it came in that box originally. Real gold Necklaces can be added to costume pendants (and vice versa), so check them separately of one another. Buy a presidium gem tester for your gemstones. Your "amber" stone is most likely a citrene or could be a golden topaz in an 18k setting. So, get a gold and silver test kit. Easy to learn the marks for gold and silver. Hope this helps you find all the gold and silver!

Swarovski has stopped making beads now. Those may be worth more than you think. The first clear necklace looked like Swarovski too

I didn’t know that about Swarovski. I had noticed that it wasn’t a “thing” any more, but just chalked it up to having gone out of fashion and that it would be back.

Regarding fake pearls, the thing to look for is that it doesn't have a mold line or a seam, also the pearls shouldn't be flat on one side there should be no flaking around the drill hole for the silk and the drill hole should be small and fine. They should be uniform in size with imperfections in the shape. Delicate imperfections. That will tell you that it's a good quality strand of fake pearls

If the clasp has a diamond I would guess that it's a good fake sold at a jewelry store. Hard to see it but it didn't look cheap.

I had the pinky ring with the blue and red stones lost it in the hay loft. Many years later when they tore down the barn they found it and my floppy hat ( chewed by mice) the ring was in perfect condition.

The hand is a hamsa to ward of the evil eye. It’s a protector as well. Both Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims refer to the Hamsa symbol as "the hand of Fatima." Fatima was Mohammed's daughter and one of the people of the cloak. She is often looked to for protection and good luck in Muslim culture.

hi Alex & Melisa - the "hand" neck lace does indeed mean something good - its the Hamsa Hand, it banishes evil and negative energy and in return attracts happiest, luck and good fortune xx

I imagine the 18K ring with diamonds on the sides has quite an expensive stone in. You wouldn’t normally use 18K for a citrine or topaz. Could even be a peach sapphire.
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson 2 роки тому
Looks like topaz. A honey topaz was considered a precious stone and was set in gold, often 18k, and accented with diamonds.

It could also be a Mexican Fire Opal, which can come in many shades from yellow to orange to red. It has that opaque look to it. Also if it is set in 18k gold and diamonds the center stone would be higher quality.

The ring was marked 750, so it could have been made in Europe. 18K gold is used more often in Europe , 14K (585) is more popular in the USA.

Can’t tell for sure watching but; I used to bring in semi precious & Swarovski crystals for jewellery findings in my previous job. -Red bead stand could be coral/glass. -The next were Agate beads/ semi precious -Fresh water pearls -green circle on the 10k chain I would bet to be green aventurine ……..or a green jasper. I doubt jasper.
