1. Designing your environment for success 2. The 2 minute rule for the start of habits 3. Master the entry points/ first step for habits. 4. Join a community Whos normal habit is your desired habit 5. Use variable rewards - most bad habits have immediate rewards and long term consequences. Most good habits are the exact opposite - reward system example: jar of marbles 90 red & 10 blue, after every good habit practice pull out a marble, if red then nothing, if blue then reward thyself.

This also has a lot to do with reducing decision fatigue. You can only make so many choices every day so if small habits become ingrained you do it just because it's what you normally do! If you can brush your teeth every morning, you can roll out a yoga mat every morning right after, and you can get on that mat and start. It all leads from the thought of "well this is just what I do after I rinse the toothpaste out of my mouth."

Imo decision fatigue is a myth. I don’t know how little capacity people have, that choosing a shirt drains them out significantly. I choose a different breakfast and outfit everyday and this is what excites me for the day. Otherwise you have a dull routine with no freedom.

@misstoujoursplus

Not really. Many people have no goals at all. So the environment plays a very little role to change anything. Many people exercize like crazy, they don't even know why. Maybe only to ajust to what "society" seems to require from them. So they spend their whole lifes doing boring stuff, even if it's very useful for their health and at the end of the day, they feel completely depressed.

Meaning and purpose. The lack of these in any endeavour however great or small has been the single biggest obstacle for to stop being lazy and procrastinating or unable to stick to a new habit for long. My advice is to infuse meaning and purpose into what you want to achieve before even thinking about what habits will help you achieve your goals.
@rodrigopartidazermeno8311
@rodrigopartidazermeno8311 3 роки тому
I see your point because while this habits trend brings a lot of things that seem to make sense, I still haven't known anyone who actually stuck with better habits and changed their lives 2 or 3 years after getting familiar with these ideas. They have been around at least since 2013 (Mini habits by Stephen Guise) but do they stand the test of time on an individual basis without meaning and purpose?

1. Design Your Environment to subconsciously or consciously positively reinforce your habit 2. Make it Easy for you to perform your habits, such as scaling them down to smaller more manageable tasks when initially starting in order to establish the habit even if it's showing up in a small way 3. Master the Entry Points to your habit; habits are more so the entry point, not the end point. By mastering the smaller decisive moments, the rest of the habit will fall in place. 4. Join a Community where your desired behaviour is the group's normal behaviour. So many habits are socially reinforced, so choosing an appropriate group to identify with will encourage you to perform those habits in order to feel included 5. Use Variable Rewards when successfully performing your habits. Typical 'good' habits often have long term rewards, so attempt to pull some of those rewards into the present by incorporating some short term rewards. These can be vital at the beginning of forming a habit. Highly recommend the book, it's an overall excellent read.

I'm about to box everything & toss it out, bringing back in bit by bit what I need starting with PC, printer & notebooks. & only bringing in what doesn't take me from mindset of the work I want to do. I'm going to make the only thing I can do in my living space what I need to do. Start this by bringing boxes home when I go home tonight & just box it all so I don't get frozen wondering if I should keep this, sell that, how to organize this stuff etc; just pull it all out & to the side until I get the main goals slain.

Same ! ....lol! ...no really its a actual serious problem in my opinion....., I got attention issues,...and therefore this is the result;...I mean think about it, if u spend 2hrs on educating yourself , (which btw seems like all I do since graduating high-school ironically lol! reading included) and u end up scrolling through comments of endless web jargon, that both either make u feel like a God, and feelings of catatonic dispaer at the exact same time, obvisouly that can't be productive lol! ....so yeah scrolling through that same mind numbing jargon (even if its not that haha), while trying to learn is dumb , and I should stop lol! ...I'm trying, but its hard though,...I mean if u just miss 5 min of some speeches books or lectures, you might miss the entire point of a ending of a good book ect ect...so because u wasted 5min , going through the same web stuff , you now technically wasted the entire 2hrs ...in a way. So yeah it sounds funny, but I think this could actually be considered a real problem, lol!

This is huge. Those first few seconds where you make that decision of what you're doing next are everything. Developing the discipline to instead do what's best for your ultimate goal starts right there.

But as soon as we jumped right into the habit, we could easily do that without really thinking and looking for an excusing, then could achieve the goal that we set. Dude! Yeah you always hear people say something like "mind over matter" or "it doesn't matter where you live on the outside, it matters where you live in your head" which is good if you're trapped in a Siberian prison but with the freedom we enjoy today , we usually have access to change our environment endlessly ,for better or worse. I recently moved to a different state and let me tell you, the atmosphere and environment of the people around me here really showed how impactful your environment is to your mental health and well being in general. It might be inconvenient to risk the change but sometimes the grass is greener

Thanks a lot! I still feel lazy but I can really see how first I need to establish the thing before I can optimize or whatnot.

I'm a little late seeing this, but it's great advice. I'm chronically ill and fatigue is my enemy. Over time, it warped into laziness as well. If I couldn't finish, why start right? My personal daily mantra has become "little, tiny things" over and over again because washing one dish is better than never washing any at all. This applies to everything so that I can come to terms with the fact that I may not always finish in a timely manner, but I've started and I will get there.

I can totally agree with all these. Being a middle aged mom with all the ailments, working full time, it takes lots of motivation to make UKposts videos.. do I really have to do this, is something I ask most of the time.. But when I pull myself up, and me and daughter start writing the script, the idea flow through, in few minutes we would be in full swing setting up filming. It's that first 2 minutes battle we need to win, to get the ball rolling. Same thing with the editing process. The first 2 minutes to say to myself, I will just start with importing the videos to the editor, then I'm already in the swing of editing.. First 2 minutes! That's all you need oil the machine!
