Hi @Silicon Labs, As you answer: "No, if phones want to implement AoD and receive beacons packets from multiantenna beacons and calculate the angle and elevation. In this case the phone “just” needs software that is able to do the angle calculation and does not need multiple antennas." Its mean, in this case, I can use a smartphone with Bluetooth version 5.0 or lowers and update/install software that is able to do AoD algorithms or need to have a phone with Bluetooth V5.1 to support AoD algorithms? Thank you for answer!

Hi, when do you guys think the direction finding development kit would be out for sale?

In this demo the asset-tracker and the locator is close to each other and in Line-of-sight (LoS). For any indoor positioning system the main problem is multi-path, reflection and when the object (asset-tracker or tag) and Locator (or anchor) are Non-LoS. How accurate the measurements in those condition for BT 5.1? AoA is very sensitive to distance and other reflection related issues.

I am wondering about the same thing. Guess I´ll have to get hands on such a system and test it myself.

you likely would need several roof mounted arrays to track a larger environment for best chances of LOS tracking of objects

Check 0:59. Direction display goes wild when he puts his hand on the tag probably blocking the signal

Exactly. Same procedure as last year. Wearing such a tag on your ass or on your jacket makes a significant difference :)

i don't see anything "going wild"

I think it is repetitive question. 1. Does the AOA Implementation in mobile need to be upgraded new h/w(chip) and s/w( next version of oreo in case android)? 2. what is minimum requirement to implement AOD in mobile ? only mobile os upgrade can make AOD possible? if not, we need install new h/w compliant to BLE 5.1?

so you determined the elevation and angle but the main issue so far regarding ble signlas is you can't accurately determinate the distance nor control it, as per our latest testings.

Does this require for the future (Bluetooth 5.1 enabled) smartphones to have a new antenna design?

Hi! Our Bluetooth marketing manager has this answer for you: Yes and no: Yes, if phones want to implement direction finding such as “find my keys” they will need to have multiple antennas. No, if phones want to implement AoD and receive beacons packets from multiantenna beacons and calculate the angle and elevation. In this case the phone “just” needs software that is able to do the angle calculation and does not need multiple antennas. If you have any more questions, please visit the community at community.silabs.com, where our engineers can talk directly!

Does that mean we can reliably measure the distance between bluetooth devices? Or is it only possible to measure the angle it is approaching from?
