I spent a day with school shooting survivors from Columbine, Stoneman Douglas, and Reynolds High Schools to learn what it’s like to experience a devastating attack on an educational facility.

Since the trial hasn't actually started it's probably to preserve evidence. The building is likely closed as well, at least I would hope so. It would definitely help preserve the crime scene, and also avoid making the students and faculty relive the trauma.

I go to MSD. They closed off the buildings and had an investigation. The kids were only in the auditorium, along with the cafeteria, away from where it took place. They didn't do school for the rest of most of the year. They came back to school and had half days on the days they went back. They went back so that they could be with each other, and be there for each other during those times. It was very sad.

My aunt was in the Las Vegas shooting, and she has never forgotten it. Every 4th of July, she retreats to her room, with noise cancelling headphones, and cries. She has PTSD and is spooked by loud noises. The event has affected our entire family. When you see a death count after a shooting, remember that every single number represents a family devastated.

Not-so-fun fact: My best friend/Roommate’s girlfriend is a survivor of the Parkland shooting. I’d say her and I are pretty decent friends as well. She has massive PTSD from it. She said the bodies prevented folks from leaving through the conventional exit and the shooter used the fire alarm to draw students out. I was at the movies with some friends including her when someone pulled the fire alarm and we had to step out, she had a whole breakdown from it. My best friend had to console her for a while before she calmed down. Sad that even survivors have to battle the demons they never asked for

People visiting the school for PTA meetings, extracurricular events, etc. all describe what you said exactly. Some say it's because they know what happened, others say there's just something off about it. It's also very fascinating to hear about the adults who now work in that area and have families on their own. Time moves on, but some things do not completely go away.

unfortunately, i know exactly how aaleya’s parents felt on that call. the same thing happened with my wife. i was at work and my wife called me which she doesn’t do unless she needs to so i answered it. Her voice was shaking and she told me she was in lockdown because there was a shooter at her work. she works at a boys and girls club. She was saying that she was didn’t have much time to talk or worry she had to save her kids. i told her i loved her and to keep them away from the doors and windows and then i heard a bang and the call dropped. I work in a rehabilitation center for brain injured individuals. i sprinted out of my work and up the stairs hysterical i was shaking and everything was running through my head. i told my coworkers to call my boss because i needed to go NOW. I got in my car and raced to her work and there were seven or so cop cars and cops with ar-15s. luckily they found the kid before anyone was hurt and my wife said the bang was a cabinet falling when they were moving it to block the door. and she doesnt know how to call failed. i will never forget that feeling and fear and how i felt like my world had just completely ended.

I hate these "realistic" school shooting drills. I remember when I was in first grade we stacked up all of the desks in front of the door. Me and my friend both had scissors hidden in our boots to use for self defense. We all huddled into the reading corner, my classmates were crying quietly holding onto each other. My teacher she was terrified shaking while hugging us all. Then the door knob started to twist and my teacher put her hand over her mouth tears steaming down her face not taking her eyes off the door. It was the police they said it was all a drill and laughed it off. I can't imagine experiencing an actual school shooting.

First grade. FIRST grade. These are literal children, some no more than 6 or 7 years old, having to accept the reality that not only are there monsters out there who would bring a weapon into a school and shoot people, but that it's a real threat to them, their classmates, and their teachers. I'm 16 years old in 10th grade currently, and I remember the shooter drills in elementary school, but they only started when I was in about 4th or 5th grade and could accept and understand that a bit more. It's so sad that now we have to educate even the youngest students about survival in what should be one of the safest places for a kid.

Sharing a personal story. I found the video to be truly beautiful and informative. Your conversations flowed so smoothly, and I gained much knowledge from it. Unfortunately, I recently experienced a false school shooting alarm. Even though it wasn't real, the sounds of the alarm, the sight of students running down the halls, my teacher telling us to run, and being the last one to leave my classroom made it feel real as anything. We have added shades on the windows so people can’t see in. And we can’t see out. Policeman are standing out of all exits all day everyday. I can’t say enough how great full I am for them. It hurts me even more because I know it may happen. Not just some fantasy. We humans need to change. There needs to be a law for no firearms. We can’t keep living like this. People wonder why we have so many school shootings, when the answer is right in front of you. Children are scared to go to school. School needs to be a place where we can learn. A picture of two pistols on campus was sent through some means to administrators at the school. Most people took it very seriously and more than 80% of the students either didn't go to school the next day or were picked up early. Turns out some kid was arrested that day and confessed saying that they were gonna shoot the school up. The only reason that they didn't is because there was almost nobody at school by 5th period. The shooting was supposed to happen during 6th period.

I really resonate with not feeling safe in an environment that was made for safety. Thankfully, I have not been in any sort of school shooting, but my neighborhood is not the safest. There have been shootings in my neighborhood for years, whether it be down the street or a few blocks away. I even witnessed someone getting shot right across from my house. It's just the fear that you are no longer safe, the worry for the victim being someone you know, and grief for the families who have lost loved ones. @calebwilloughby7134
@calebwilloughby7134 3 роки тому
@@shesaballer35 so the main misconception is with buying guns online is you assume a background check is not required. this is false because the gun has to be shipped to an ffl who will conduct a background check when you pick up the gun. regarding the gun show, any commercial sellers are required to be an ffl dealer. so yes they must conduct background checks. the only situation where a background check is not required is when two private citizens living in the same state make a trade involving a firearm. this does not involve the gun show and can be done anytime and anywhere. the fact that you don't need a license to own a gun is because it's a right, not a privilege. meaning it cannot be taken away. regarding arming teachers i'm not for forcing them into it, i want to give them a choice. That is precisely. How school shooters come to exist. They're paid no mind throughout their childhood, even harmed by their parents or guardians. They're treated like trash. So they come to accept this as the norm. And they start coming up with their own little world or something similar. And this leads them to think of problems that they need to get rid of. And in some cases. That includes schools or even people. And then that's how shootings happen. Because they're neglected. And learn to be cruel from the examples their parents/guardians purposefully give them. And then for some reason the parents are surprised when their children shoot people. What morons.
