i do video games development, 3d renders and 3d animated videos, i need many small independent creators apps like one that generates maps for 3d model materials out of single albedo texture, the app cuts my work by hour or so for a single material, i have handful of apps like this, mac os dont have these... So in terms of buying m1 for productivity , my intel laptop destroys m1 and with 2tb ssd, 34gb ram, rtx 3070 for price of around 1600, besides cpu power being little lower in a single core and same on multicore, my laptop is wayyy more powerfull than m1 and around same price

You could buy an M1 MacBook Air, an iPhone 12, an M1 iPad Pro and a pair of AirPods. Or you could buy an M1 Mac mini (plus monitor, keyboard and mouse), an iPhone SE, an iPad 8, a pair of AirPods, an Apple Watch Series 3, an Apple TV HD, a HomePod mini and still have enough left over for a 50" 4k TV.

Not really. They just review the things that make the Mac look good.. but most things they compare are literally pointless iRL. It's faster.. but only with Apple software. And Apple software isn't what professionals use. When push comes to shove, even if the Mac was 2x faster than anything on the market.. it's still incompatible with most professional workflows and that is the fault of Apple not allowing it to be compatible. Apple could rule the entire professional market if they got their elitist heads out of their asses.

for years i was unhappy how my laptops performed. always thought a better more expensive machine would solve the problem. just recently i have realised that its the software design and user experience is what makes the difference. now using the cheapest mac on the market and i couldnt be happier. i will never return to windows. i would rather die.

Because yes, most likely ALWAYS going to get more compute power on a more expensive machine. You being impressed with e.g. m1 MacBook doesn't mean it won't get outmuscled by another machine.

For price comparison you should look at the MacBook Air with 1Tb memory and 16Gb ram and it'll be around $1800 where I'm from. As the MacBook Air can't have more than 16Gb ram and the Z16 can't have less than 32Gb ram, the comparison is complicated as any creator would need 32Gb while any other joe should go for 16Gb. Estimating the price of a M1 MacBook Air with 32Gb, I'd guess $2100-2200, as they make you pay $200 for the additional 8Gb of ram (which I call theft). Remember the Z16 has a at least $400 GPU inside. The M1 MacBook Air is great and pretty well priced (if it weren't for the so high extra cost they asked to upgrade to 16Gb ram ...), but the Z16 just doesn't share the same buyers. This comparison is weird. There are cheaper laptops with i7-11800H CPUs, why not compare to those? So saying that the M1 MacBook wins ... In what situation? For what usage? What do you consider important in a laptop? Those questions are what counts when you buy a laptop. A bigger screen is a big + in my book.

@@ahmedfaiyazazad8415 While the cpu performance was about the same (it will always vary between laptops), display, speakers, trackpads and keyboard weren't compared here, so for some of these I don't know and if you'd like you could give some evidence/explanation of why they are better. Why I question your affirmation : For example the display doesn't seem to be worse than the MacBook Air's, on the contrary. The Z16 display has a bigger screen (16 vs 13.3, 2.7 inches is huge), has a touchscreen, about the same ppi (>220), higher refresh rate (120Hz vs 60Hz), has better color accuracy (for example >110% of DCI-P3 color gamut against 80% for the MacBook Air; it seems that the Z16 is only beaten by the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 in that regard), both go up to about 400 nits brightness (the MacBook Air while advertised at 400 actually is closer to 360 while the Z16 can go over 400nits). So I don't get why you would say that the MacBook Air has a better display. Please explain. (Same for the others)

@@FS-mi9sn here is explanation Not everyone plays games with Insane graphics and the most Popular games are league of legends and Minecraft which Run great on the MacBook ( You can reach 200 fps in Minecraft in Macbook m1 ) And not everyone wants touchscreen and the m1 air has the 2nd best battery life after the pro and a fantastic display With deep blacks and accurate colours and less refections than any laptop do what are you losing by buying the air and m1 Has better single core performance so an average guy Watches videos movies and plays games and for 2 out of 3 Air is much better

This chanel is bias, he make clickbaity titles amd use the wxtra expensive device against base mac air to falsely prove some point, if you try to do actual work with that base mac air, you will get pushed to corner with low ssd, low ram, small screen, no IO... If he spec that mac as this msi, the price will be nearly the same but still with bad IO and no gpu...guy knows only mac lovers watch him so he only construct videos to look like m1 is so ultimately the best of the best and universal by only showing cpu benchmark and video editing, but nothing else. He choose the more expensive windows machine that is also not the best one amd compare m1 strength with x86 weakness like fair comparison

Seeing a windows machine brings backs painful memories, the ones with my dell xps 15 where I could toast an egg while working with a lawnmower noise in the background due to the fans. Memories of windows too, will all those horrible noises and interface designs that looked terrible. NEVER AGAIN. Thanks apple for making my life much easier with the M1 Macs♥️

@Muhammad Ehtasam Thanks to both. ARM is just the ISA, and while it is generally more efficient than x86, Apple has designed its own microarchitecture which also contributes to the efficiency. Other ARM manufacturers have made chips at a similar wattage to the M1, but they all have lower performance for the same power draw.

@Muhammad Ehtasam Wont help whilever Microsoft have no x86 support for ARM and as I recall considerably more overhead than Rosetta 2 for x86_64, as Apple included custom silicon to speed it up. I'm almost entirely a PC person, but even if they make more ARM laptops, assuming Apple don't get greedy again then a Mac makes more sense. Especially as I primarily use Linux not Windows, so potentially could run that natively on the Mac and all the software I need would already be compiled for ARM.

On the last render, apple was using ProRes and the Intel laptop was using H.264 would that account for the difference in performance? Doesn't seem like an apples to apple comparison in my opinion. In my brief research, Prores doesn't have anywhere near the compression ratio of H.264.

I’ve done tethered photo shoots in the middle of no where and edited video on a plane. Difference between the M1 and a Windows laptop is that I don’t loose performance when unplugged.

Honestly the fact that this is the base model with only a 7-core GPU... that's insane. I'm on the slightly upgraded 8-Core GPU/512GB SSD version of the Air and I'm still blown away by this laptop almost a year later. I'd say that PC is only worth it for a very small group of people, the real world performance differences to me didn't justify more than double the price.

I have legion 5 for gaming and m1 air for everything esle .. and no matter how you suger coat it the air m1 will get 3 times the battery life doing actual stuff, plus power bank can top it off in hour and a half .. so definitely good device

If only I could get an M1 Air for work and quit having this 16 inch that toasts my legs when I want to use it anywhere but docked.. Sadly I don't think that will happen as a ton of our use cases require an intel chip (lots of docker containers and vagrant vms will not work on m1). My personal m1 air is the best machine I've ever used.

I just run my docker containers on my custom PC at home and then use AnyDesk on my MacBook or iPad pro to remote into the PC which Feels buttery smooth. Simple solution!

for this price I was able to get a m1 mba 8 /7 with 16gb memory and an imac 8/8 with 16gb of memory. As a graphic designer Adobe pretty much has everything at M1 compatible (I think After Effects is the hold out) and it is running great. TBH I might be interested in m1x but really in what I am doing I can not imagine needing more power. As the software catches up to the hardware things will only get faster and cleaner. The future proofing situation seems a bit off at this point. I am interested in the m2? orange macbook(air)? to match my imac. M2 will be a nice bump. Also using that ipad pro as a second monitor is so nice when traveling or even using with the imac for email or documents. I am always either impressed are wondering how people use two-three monitors when working. I have tried it and it lways overwhelms me. Using one big screen along with desktops always does it for me.

So in terms of buying m1 for productivity , my intel laptop destroys m1 and with 2tb ssd, 34gb ram, rtx 3070 for price of around 1600, besides cpu power being little lower in a single core and same on multicore, my laptop is wayyy more powerfull than m1 and around same price

Given that the MSI draws up to five or ten times the wall power used by the MBA, I sure hope its faster at some things, especially as I'd expect the M1 to be no more than 3 or 4 times more efficient than the Intel+NVidia team.

The M1 is on TSMC 5nm while Tigerlake is on Intel 10nm Superfin. I can't wait for AlderLake because of its x86_64 hybrid nature it will compete better with Apple's heterogeneous Arm architecture. Eventually we will have 6 Performace Cores and 32 Efficiency Cores

Realistically, I don't expect Intel to match M1 performance (performance per watt) until late 2023 / early 2024...by that time, M1 will have long been replaced. I do expect Intel to be making drastic improvements to performance every year, so I don't expect them to be permanently 2 year behind Apple.

@@marvinjerichocava6551 Same, never had a mac before, i've jumped in with the M1 Air 8/512. I can only be positive about this machine (even if i still prefear windows..., but its ok, i have both XD). Definitly buy it, the price is right and the porformance are there. What i'm saying is "don't expect the m1 to perform that well with heavy task, it just can't do it", don't be fooled by some easy test with the same perfectly optimized applications. BTW, 100% recomended, go buy it :)

Hey I have a real serious question for all. I have a MacBook Air M1. I’m on the current version of macOS (NOT A BETA) over the past week my web browsers have just been not responding anymore. Safari, Chrome, Brave, Fire Fox, they work for a while but, now they give me using too much system memory errors. This will happen with just one browser open with one tab, nothing else running in background. I’ve also noticed apps are starting to run into errors as well. Not sure what’s going on.. just feeling to see if anyone else experienced these issues on the M1 Air. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I also own a M1 MacBook Air and have been facing the same problem. Whenever I open a tab a notification comes up showing tha this webpage is using significant memory. Also found some bugs in Safari. Hope that it's just a software error and Apple fixes it with a new update

The more of these you do, the more its obvious the M1X is going to be a monster, at least on the CPU. I've actually been impressed with all the RTX 3060 laptops Iv'e seen so far, they don't seem to lose as much performance on the GPU at least when unplugged. Of course that's kinda worthless with the battery life issue.

I would love to switch to Mac but I need my games. Now, if gaming on Mac starts to get significantly more support in the next couple of years as more manufacturers start producing ARM based computers, then maybe I would consider a switch. But even then, that is assuming a good percentage of my Steam library will work. I can’t justify rebuying all my favorite games just to play them on another computer platform, and I’m sure many would feel the same way. Also, I assume I will have to rebuy favorite applications so it can get expensive to switch.
