I was telling my 19 yo (who we made sure he was not exposed to religion until he had critical thinking skills) about the left behind series I was forced to watch at church as a child, and how it traumatized me. I have been an atheist since I was 16 though, due to all the conflicting views and nonsense in religion.

I always wondered why conservatives seem to hate Hollywood so much, I guess this explains a lot!

How did you make it past the first verse of the bible about God creating? Do tell how it happened on its own. The 1LofT states that energy can't be created or destroyed, it can't happen naturally. One aspect of the 2LofT shows that the universe is winding down, usable energy is becoming less usable. It is clear creation had to be done supernaturally at some point yet it is still denied because people are just too proud to accept that, among other things.

First of all, we don't know whether the universe was ever "created", or ever "came into existence", or has simply always existed, or whether the energy that now comprises the matter it is made up of has always existed but in some other form... and those questions themselves may be meaningless if we're considering "the state of affairs before time itself existed". Second of all, the first law of thermodynamics assumes A CLOSED SYSTEM... and, again, we don't know if that assumption applies to the universe either. Third... you are attempting to "do a special pleading". *I* assume that "the universe appeared or existed first"; *YOU* assume that your God existed first... THEN magicked the universe into existence. So, whether we choose to assume that the existence of either is "natural" or "supernatural" that still offers no reason to prefer one story over the other. If your God has always existed then perhaps the universe has always existed; if your God came into existence by magic then perhaps the universe came into existence by magic. However, IN BOTH OF THOSE CASES, adding your God to the story adds nothing useful. Specifically, even if magic is real, and the universe did come into existence by supernatural means, we still have no reason whatsoever to assume that any god, let alone your particular God, was involved in the process. Perhaps the random appearance of universes is the inevitable result of magic. (Since we have never seen magic demonstrated, and obviously have no idea of how it might work, we have no particular reason to assume that not to be true...) I personally tend to consider "the big bang" to be the most plausible theory put forward so far but, since neither I nor anyone else was there to witness "the beginning", I'm willing to admit that I don't really know. Perhaps, since neither you, nor any other human being, was there to witness God creating the universe, and no current evidence of his existence seems to be available at all, perhaps you should admit that you don't "know" either.
