The runtime is the single biggest flaw of the movie. The movie needed to be at least 30-40 minutes longer to develop all the characters and mythology and twists crammed into the movie. I think the movie has a lot of great ideas, but they aren't well developed at all due to the desire to keep the runtime so short.

Anastasia wasn't made by Walt Disney Animation Studios, it was produced by Don Bluth for 20th Century Fox. Disney bought Fox, so I guess that makes her a Disney princess now, but that wasn't the case back then

And in the intro you see people in expensive cloths banging their fists against the shield not getting in. So in addition to where you might have lived in the city it‘s also luck on top. Cause if you were a few dozen meters too far down the street, you died.

Your reasoning is not too far off. If one studies, even if just in passing, the Bronze Age Collapse, one can see how civilizations can be brought down and things like books and knowledge disappear. To sum up the Bronze Age Collapse, it was the period where four great Bronze Age civilizations (the Egyptians, the Hittites, the Assyrians, and Mycenaeans) in the Eastern Mediterranean died out. Within the span of 50 years, writing disappeared, trade and economic activity ceased, pottery and the arts became archaic, great temples and monuments reduced to rubble, and even languages died out. Civilizations in this region wouldn't fully recover until 500 years after the collapse. I can easily see the after-affects of a civilization collapse, similar to the Bronze Age Collapse, happening to Atlantis. This would be especially true given how catastrophic the fall of Atlantis was depicted.

@@kribyy7784 No. The old animated movies from Disney are just European folk tales retold (ex. Pinoccio), some are even rip offs (ex. Lion King ripping off Kimba the White Lion) and the 3D animated movies were done by 3rd parties. The current Disney movies are garbage. Disney was never good, the few actually original movies (ex. Atlantis and Treasure Planet) were squashed because of profit reasons.

@@RobleViejo The Lion King isn't a ripoff of Kimba, that's just an old myth pushed by people that don't know what they're talking about. YourMovieSucks actually did an amazing job dissecting that claim and where all of it's points originate. Highly recommend it, please do check it out! Disney has also been making original animated movies since Lady and the Tramp of 1955, as well as the musical collections prior and beyond. Then there's Fox an the Hound, The Rescuers, 101 Dalmatians, Brave Little Toaster, A Goofy Movie and it's sequel... not to mention, Treasure Planet is based off of the Treasure Island book, which was an old English story from the 1880s. Adaptation doesn't make a product bad, however I will say that Treasure Planet is much more transformative than something like Pinocchio. All stories are derivative to some degree, it's impossible to create something truly original. However, you can take more creative spins on a concept and make something that is fresh compared to what you're taking from, and early Disney did that to some degree? I'd say they're much better about it now than they were in the 40s and 50s, but that's just me splitting hairs. As for Disney's CG putout, there's a lot of variety in quality, just as there was in the 2D animated library. For every Encanto and Wreck-It Ralph Disney puts out into the world there's a Chicken Little or Ralph Breaks The Internet out there. You can't just simply say "New Disney bad," there's nuance to the quality of modern films. Especially when the quality of such films can be easily debated upon, labeling all of their output as "garbage" is failing to see the products actually in front of you. As for other studios Disney's acquired, they still had their influence on Disney. Pixar maintained it's deal with Disney after Chicken Little, despite them seeing Chicken Little as a failure. Pixar and Disney have continued to influence each other in terms of pushing CG animation to new heights and certain writing flairs (twist villains being the most obvious and most contentious). "Disney was never good" is a rather loaded statement, but one I don't completely disagree with? Disney has always been in the business of marketing itself as an integral part of your childhood, and that Disney is a brand you loved as a child. That's just tactics of marketing, however when you're older it's good to bring a critical eye to content you liked as a kid. When I was a little girl I adored Disney's Chicken Little, and now that I'm an adult I can easily see it's flaws and no longer consider it a good film. Disney has always been in the business of adaptation and inspiration for it's films, as that's merely how the creative process works. Most animation studios have this same sort of library that's a mix of original and adapted/inspired works, Dreamwork's two biggest franchises (Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon) are both directly taking ideas from books. Does that suddenly mean I can handwave them for being "just other people's books retold?" No, because there's still merit to the art at hand. As for Disney's profit motive, that's corporate entities in general. Disney at the time was dealing with the back and forths on the higher level, and Eisner is essentially a Disney villain incarnate that was CEO of the company for nearly twenty years. And Disney sabotaging films is nothing new, they've been ruthless towards their adversaries in ways as well. When Anastasia was going to release in theatres, Disney rereleased The Little Mermaid on the same weekend to cripple it's financial potential. So... seeing them try to maintain the brand after Atlantis underperforms and sabotaging Treasure Planet to ensure gambles that big aren't done again isn't surprising. It's evil, and it directly harmed content I love dear, but you should never expect corporate entities to be kind towards artists when their profit line is even remotely risked. In short... no. Old Disney wasn't exclusively old European folk takes, current Disney movies aren't a quality monolith, Disney has made great things in every era of their existence, and not all of their great art has been crushed for monetary purposes (but corporate entities are scum, so it's not surprising they do this sometimes).

Movie had lots of deaths I can immagine that some more sensitive children could be traumatized by it but I think it is a marvelous film for a ten year old
