I got super into Lego during the pandemic being mostly stuck at home with a lot of free time. I discovered this channel quite quickly and Tiago has helped me out with nearly every purchase I've made so far. “Let’s do this again next near, shall we?” Yes please, this one was great! But also all your other videos, without which this one wouldn’t carry as much weight. I’m just going to keep watching each one, it’s much easier than watching or playing every Oscar/Game Awards nominee

For me it has to be either the orchid or The Starry Night. Both make for absolutely gorgeous display pieces, and while I’ve taken down a lot of my sets to make room for new ones, both the orchid and The Starry Night have stayed up since I got them, both shortly after release. My best budget set, though, has to be the Halloween cat and mouse. All the budget holiday display sets from this year were adorable, but that kitty is just about perfect in its design. I say that with full bias, since I’m the proud owner of one amazing black kitty cat. As for play value, the majestic tiger is superb for the price. It’s very pose-able, and for much of the year I had it prowling around my orchid, ready to pounce on the little bird that comes with it.

The Galaxy Explorer was my pick. But I am sure if I built the Lion Knights Castle that would take the cake. But yes out of all the crazy sets I have built this year for 2021-2022 sets, the Galaxy Explorer took it for me. I really do love the Lighthouse and it comes up in a close second for me. Late to the show, but had to chime in, the Lions Knight Castle is my first LEGO purchase in over 25 years. NONE of the others would have even come close to getting me to do that. (though the galaxy explorer was close, I just feel like I can't go into that many different genres) They really elevated the old theme, while keeping the classic theme but modern updates, and evolving it into more city drama than just military. In terms of Scale, beauty, fun for all ages and sexes, diversity in action and city life adventure, universal theme appeal, etc... all adds up to the best offering LEGO has ever created. The only down side is there is not much else to go with it, and if it takes 10 years to get a decent line of complimentary sets then some may lose interest. Being new to the LEGO market I must say I was not pleased how they did the forest hideout and this GWP enticement on such top of the line sets. They need to go full sail and release a line of products quickly to revive this theme!

I'm personally a little sad to see Jazz Quartet not get a nomination for display value - truly a unique set!

I really hope I can get the Lion Knights castle before it retires. I don't have any nostalgia for the theme either, but it seems like an incredible build, display piece and playset. I honestly wish more if the adult oriented stuff were more than just display pieces, I feel like I'd actually take them off the shelf to engage with them that way.

Mine was the Galaxy Explorer. I have the Lion Knight's Castle as well, but I just love the nostalgic feel from the Explorer. Something about seeing the iconic space figures in 2022 puts a smile on my face.

For me the best Lego set of the year is definitely the Galaxy Explorer so I’m glad you picked it for best value! While I didn’t grow up with Classic Space as I was only born in 2000 I did grow up with other space themes like Galaxy Squad & Space Police III. The building experience is definitely the best I’ve seen from the few other sets I got this year with the Fast & Furious Dodge Charger being a close 2nd. Plus, it also has 2 other alternate models for a 2 man & 1 man spaceship as well which essentially makes it a Creator 3 in 1 set. Also, it’s only $100 which is a lot more affordable than other 18+ sets like Bowser & The $400 Castle so a lot more people can get it without having to spend a lot of money just for an Adult set. I got mine for 25% off at Walmart though which makes it an even better value than it already was! Definitely the highlight of my 1st year getting back into LEGO & I highly recommend this set to anyone who likes Space.

Great video, I loved that you looked at sets from a bunch of criteria and gave great overviews. For me the orchids win because theme and display value are the most important factors to me, but I'd love to build any one of the other sets you featured.

The other big detail about the Lion Knights Castle is that it's a big source of medieval themed bricks and minifigs for your custom builds. It's harder to find good castle parts since Harry Potter makes up most of the fantasy themed sets. Personally, I just placed an order for a few sets online. My sister said that she's never really put together a Lego set herself before, so I got the Hogwarts trunk (she's a Hufflepuff), the mini Disney Castle, and the Succulents botanical build. I'll probably split those sets between Christmas and her Birthday. She's also a fan of the paint by number apps on her phone, so I might get her a mosaic set at some point as well.

I have and played with the original castle and I must say it's the set that I liked the most. If I had seen this castle when I was a kid, I'd be crazy over it. It really has everything you could imagine on a really cool medieval lego set.

Bought the castle months ago and kept it in box for christmas. Really looking forward to opening it as Castle is my favorite theme .

Your taste is spot on. Most of the lego sets featured here are on my list. You make a good case for the Lion Knights castle though for someone who doesn’t have any nostalgia for it and it not having any license, I feel it’s a tad too expensive even though it’s jam packed with features. I’m sure old time and classic lego fans would love it though.

This year I have been to the LEGO store (not online) before the shop opened. It was a nice experience talking to other LEGO fans. The opening of Luke's Landspeeder was with lots of people in row waiting and within minutes about 25-30 people had that set in their arms. The Lion Knights Castle was more exiting and the row of people was less than before, but we got an extra mini figure of a princess or of a magician. The last time was for the Eiffel Tower and for this also were people in a row waiting, this set however was very heavy and came with an extreem shopping bag. Somewhere in between these visits to the shop I went at the end of working day when Van Gogh's painting was first on sale. Every visit to the store was a nice experience. Best building experiences and displaying for 2023: Luke's Landspeeder, Van Gogh (I am Dutch), Knight's Castle, The Lighthouse, Ferrari Supercar and the Eiffel Tower (enriched by coloured LED lights).

The pyramid is probably one of my favorite sets this year. Speed champion is up there too

The Globe is my pick. Awesome round shape, great display piece, sturdy design where I'm not afraid to let my guests take a look at it.

YES! My wife got me the Lion Knight's Castle for Christmas and I'm so excited to put it to together!

My favourite of this year is the mighty bowser, he's always been my favourite mario character and he just looks so good and chunky, also one of the most solid builds. I can barely get the vespa to stand properly but this guy feels like a proper brick, as he should be.

Great year-in-review! My favourite is also the Lion Knight’s castle. Second place Boutique Hotel. Third Place Tallneck. I have yet got to build the Eiffel Tower (still in box) but I think this might become my number 2. Edit - aah yeah I still gotta build Starry Night, Orchids, Succulents and Pyramid of Giza as well. Giza didn’t get a nominee in any of your categories but I think it will become a favourite for me as well (I just love the ancient Egypt time and Assassin’s Creed Origins is one of my favourite games ever).

I'm so glad that my first Lego set after years of not touching a brick is the tallneck from Horizon, I absolute love it, it looks great, a wonderful way to reintroduce me to the world of Lego.

I built the horizon set this weekend.. first time buying and building a nice lego set, so fun and looks great on display

For me the set that I had most fun is 60353 - Wild Animal Rescue Missions Well priced, amazing experience with actually FUN APP, and VERY good pieces. We need more of these!

Enjoyed the video for sure! But the best value category needs a bit of work. I guess Tiago only had a couple of sets that he was basing this off, but there were a number of other sets that gave phenomenal value.

Castle is indeed amazing, building it was joy, it is a cool display piece here in my office, and my kids love to pick up to play from time to time. All of that with no nostalgia from because even though I wanted Legos for most of my life, I only got my first sets last year.

I was lucky to get the Galaxy Explorer for only $45 after a sale and coupon combination. It is the first set I had bought in months and over the course of 4 hours I built it while watching movies. It is (piece wise) the largest set I have ever built and while I have many of the same issues you mentioned in your review, still loved building it.

My favorite this year was definitely the Back to the Future set. I notice that you also made the same choice I did with my Ecto 1 and opted not to apply the rust stickers. I'm also not a fan of applying stickers to my sets but do so only when I must to make the set look right. Second place for me this year was the Hulkbuster. I get the critiques but I enjoyed the build nevertheless.

I am so proud of getting lion’s knight castle up to this day I keep playing with it. The Easter eggs I keep founding again and again and again, you are literally buying an adventure slash treasure, it is simply the best set of all time IMO

The Galaxy Explorer was priced down to just 50 (FIFTY!) USD at Walmart the other week. If price drops like that continue, it will easily be the best value lego set for a while to come. I loved building it and as a 25 year old AFOL I have no nostalgia of Classic Space, but I LOVE the theme and hope they make more. I did end up buying 3 Galaxy Explorers just in case they don't continue Classic Space, because it has a bunch of great MOCs associated with it that I can build later. Same deal personally with the Lion Knights Castle - no classic nostalgia for it but I LOVE the new and classic medieval sets. I do have a strong heart for realistic fantasy / medieval media, so I really enjoy that - but while I have bought three of the Blacksmith set (one at MSRP and two from a heavily discounted Costco sale to use in building MOCs) and one of the 3-in-1 Medieval Castle set (Looking to buy three to four more of those at hopefully 70 or less a piece for MOCs) I personally have yet to buy the ridiculously expensive $400 Lion Knights castle. If it was closer to 300 I would be more willing to pick it up but yeeesh that price! It is and will remain one of my White Whales for a good while. Something I think should have been mentioned alongside the other functions at 3:54 is that the folding and unfolding of the castle wall actually makes the battlement into a balcony when folded, through a clever mechanism that makes the battlement slide into the castle wall. Blown away by that small detail!

I think, UCS razor crest is one of the best sets, also in display value… maaan, it is beautifull

Glad to see the hulkbuster in the thumbnail. In my opinion I like the look of the hulkbuster. But I do agree that there's a lot of gaps between the arms. But the UCS Razor crest is for sure one of the best lego sets to ever be released this year

I have the DeLorean and it's amazing. I had to move the seats one stud forward for the doors to close fully, though.

I have the Tallneck and believe that the 'dish' head should be horizontal. It's a bit finicky but there is a position for the joints that allows the head to be horizontal :)

I see you have the same issue with the trolly roof as I did, where the part over the electronics is pushed up due to the wires. One of the things they should have put in the instructions was to remove one of the 1x4 stacked red plates from that side leaving just 1 (there are 2 on each side initially). Once you do that, the roof sits flush.

I totally agree with the best set of the year. Funny thing is I was building mine during my interview process with Lego. I ended up landing my dream job, and will most likely pick another one up at the employee store once I start. (along with a long list of sets, haha)
