I'm also really interested in botanics and entomology since it's really important for my job. You learn a lot of great and interesting things about each plant and you can know more about some weeds that grow around us. I'm starting to farm some of them because they are better flowering plants and also clover, because it regrows, has beautiful flowers and helps providing nitrogen to the soil (good for other plants). Also people can surprise you cause they know something you didn't, but you can do the same to them.

Hands down my favourite episode in the series yet. I love the way this man talks. Between his casual use of scientific vocabulary without dumbing down and clear concise responses juxtaposed with his 'fuhgeddaboudit' affect, swearing and tattoos... I'm all in. I'd take his masterclass in hot minute. More like this! 👍

You're in luck because he does do online masterclasses every so often, though they are not free. But he has a buckload of free and super informative content on his channel Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't, where he's out in the field showing all kinds of plants and teaching all about them. Check it out!

Ey, Wired. This have to be, of all the amazing experts, the chillest due you've ever had on. It's so cool to see sort of a Mafioso speaking, and looking dude, with the accent and all, and the sort of slangy, chill language and behaviour, and the dude just LOOOVES plants! It is just amazing!

Saw Joey in the thumbnail, had to click. As a generalist, I combine plants, animals, and geology to form intentional self sustaining ecosystems that human beings are a part of, so I have SOME knowledge of Botany .. but Mr. Santore is a proper botanist, and entertaining to listen to as well. He often reveals things that I either didn't know, or hadn't thought about in a while .. and that makes me better at MY job. National treasure, this guy.

Here's another reason why I love this guy. He's a straight shooter because @13:25 he breaks it down like it is. And even though I love plant medicine myself. I hate the recklessness with which it's handled and consumed in the psychonaut community. Because it's honestly really irresponsible, and there's a lot of misinformation that gets spread around and thought of as truthful. I'm always amazed at his wealth of information and I *love* his Chicago accent too. It feels comforting like our hometown 😃❤️

7:09 I studied evolutionary biology at uni and wrote an essay on the plants of New Caledonia. The plants there are an amazing example of how geology can influence the diversity of plants; the soil has many areas with incredibly high levels of heavy metals interspersed with areas of other concentrations and the plants have had to adapt to tolerate that. Totally different plant communities can be separated by distances of a couple of hundred metres, and it's really fascinating!

My understanding of why Durian smells so bad is that in its natural habitat there's a large range between trees. The primary consumer of the fruit in the wild is the Orangutan. So the extreme smell is a way for the fruit to be easily found, consumed, and the seeds spread

It ain’t racism, it’s stereotype. And you can blame the movies for that, not this person. Plus they specifically said “like ~”, implying that he is not those things, but has the same charm they would.
@boomdoom2596
@boomdoom2596 Рік тому
@Colton Price, also, it’s not odd to give someone a second check just because they have tattoos. If you look at onsen (“bath houses” I think it’s translated to?), they usually won’t allow anyone with a tattoo in due to them having too much of a relation with the Japanese Yakuza. You may be able to slip on by if you’re a foreigner and “gaijin smash” your way in but even then they have the right to turn you down.
