Hi Issac, faucets are easy fixes, extractor fans never seem to work in my opinion, but do some research on better ones, the fans on microwaves do not work unless its vented to the outside, all vans have to vent to outside. I lived in a house with an addition and when it rained heavily the water just poured in also. The windows were the problem and the type of wood used. Check for leaks around the whole building. Yes homeownership is alot, but it's also so worth it if you can the problems solved. University of UKposts and friends will help you. You will be an old pro before you know it. Hang in there and you can do it. Your a builder Man!!!!

I agree, Isaac. You know plumbing from building buses. Do that first. The addition depends. Are you going to use it, or would an open outdoor living space be better? Get rid of mold and solve moisture issues with a tare off.

Dude, life hack/law care hack: Get yourself a blue tarp, (8 X 8 or 10 X 10.) When you cut up yard stuff like branches, toss them on the tarp and pull the tarp to your burn pile location. Fewer loads back and forth. Tarp slides easily on grass and road. Love you!
@TXNLaurenMcN
@TXNLaurenMcN 2 місяці тому
Tarps are cheap and real back-savers. I use them for leaves, branches, trash, you name it! Also, those branches you're getting ready to throw away will make good firestarters next winter, to say nothing of the logs you're getting ready to burn. Stack them under cover somewhere and you'll have all the firewood you need next year.

Exhaust ducts need to be extended to dump outside of the house. It looks like your addition area needs doors sealed, roof/soffit work and proper insulation to be dried in. It will stay wet in there until it is actually sealed up. Leaky sinks are simple fixes. Get down there with a flashlight and find the leak, don't guess. Run a dehumidifier inside for a week, you'll be amazed at how much moister you remove from the house. Outside you need to get the trees/branches away from the house as you learned in the last storm, they will fall on the house.

Your bathroom fan vent probably needs cleaned. That’s probably why it’s not taking the moisture out. Your microwave has filters in it. One underneath it and one in the top. The top one should be a charcoal filter. The bottom one you can clean with soap and water and rinse, the top one you have to replace.

In my opinion, you need to start with a new solid roof. My dad was a roofer. That is a big investment, but worth so much in the long run. Once your roof is leak free, start tackling the mold issues. The faucets should be an easy fix. Just take one task at a time. You can do this.

Wall issues in the additional back porch could be gutter and drainage issues. You may have fixed some of that. Keep trees away from house and gutters. Slope foundation away from house if possible. Spray mold with bleach or vinegar and water combo. Paint moldy areas with kilz paint. Our microwave over stove sucks and vents poorly as well. Common? Idk. Bathroom vents are poor in our bathroom as well. They make better ones? Idk. Make sure you put storage container with high sides under all sinks where leaks could happen. Doubles as storage for cleaning supplies. It will protect cabinet if leaks. You didn't bite off more than you can chew. It's common problems.

@@tinybubbles263 I've used hydrogen peroxide on mold. Kills the mold, will not harm the paint and less toxic than bleach. I have a severe allergy to chlorine and also allergic to vinegar. So glad I found something that worked for me.

Welcome to home owner ship! All homes have issues, even newly built homes. You will learn a lot about care and maintenance of your most valuable asset in the years to come. I would work with your dad's to have them coach you through normal repairs and checks like your plumbing leaks. You will want to check to see if your bathroom fan is vented to outside of you house. You may need to replace the fan. Your stove fan may just be are circulating fan that draws the steam and vapors through a filter and blows them back into the room. You can check to see if it is vented out through the cabinets and out the roof. You do need a whole new roof on the house. This is one of the most important things you need to take care of to protect the house from water damage and intrusion from the elements. You have many strong healthy friends you can enlist to help with the labor, this will reduce your costs significantly! You just need one person who knows how to roof a house to guide the crew through the process. There may be a significant amount of deferred maintenance to catch up on, but that doesn't mean you bought a lemon, it simply needs some love and attention. Don't lose heart, dust yourself off and film the work you do to share on your channel. Sometimes a lot at little things can feel overwhelming, just tackle them one at a time and soon you will be amazed with what you have accomplished!

Hey Issac. Next time you need to pick up branches or sticks please just sit next to the pile and throw onto a tarp. Then drag it to pile. You can make small loads and be caring for your back. I had to do this with tree limbs and leaves. Before doing that I was bagging and raking 35-40 bags every year of leaves and that was not including branches and sticks. I learned to do it with a tarp and then I mulched with tractor so I could not let yard grass die from it being heavy and I didnt have to pay for bags or hauling.

Hey Issac. Sorry you’re dealing with all this. I also own a home I know the feeling. 1. Changing the faucet out should fix those leaks. 2. Bath fans are pretty affordable and much more quiet and efficient now. (Just make sure to oversize it for your bath sq footage for it to work well) 3. You could look into a hood fan for the kitchen vent issue. 4. Your lean to roof looks like your main problem is just you need new shingles and/or it wasn’t seal properly. A really affordable option (you will need to verify if your roof is not too much of a pitch for this option) is this stuff from Home Depot $115 for 100sq feet. “GAF Liberty 3 ft. x 34 ft. (100 sq. ft.) SBS Self-Adhering Cap Sheet Roll for Low Slope Roofing”. You can pick different colors too but might have to order it. Best advice is to apply in cold weather or early morning, because once you peel the paper off, it is EXTREMELY sticky in hot weather. Definitely a 2 person job. But very DIY. Like I said just verify if your roof slope will allow for it. Growing pains or home ownership, Cheers bro! 🤘🏼

You have alot of work a head of you. I hope you got a good deal on the place. You are able to make improvement while designing things the way you want them. You have been doing some remodeling already. If you don't need an enclosed porch on the back open up the area leaving the roof, seeing you already had it fixed. Get creative. You can screen part of it with a partial wall to keep the little ones in. Fans will not work properly if they aren't clean or properly ventilated. You already figured most everything out that you need to do. It is just learning how to do it, having the money & making the time to do it. Good luck. I hope you can get help.

Leaking sinks are usually minor, easy fixes if repaired promptly. Fan in bathroom is an easy fix. Microwaves over the stove usually doesn’t vent as well as a hood vent over the stove. Back porch, who knows. Depends how they built it. Could be more problems than it’s worth. Have a contractor check it. Did the put flashing where it is connected to the house? Do they have gutters on the outside and if they do, were they installed properly? It all could be minor but it needs to be checked. Definitely the cardboard on the walls needs to be taken down and install insulation and proper walls.

Another way to save yourself some money... I don't know if you and Jaylena are planning to build any above-ground planter beds for a vegetable garden. But if you are, all those twigs and branches will also help you save money on buying soil to fill the planter beds. If you're not already aware, look up Hugelkultur planter beds. You basically fill the bottom half of the planter bed with logs, twigs, leaves, dried grass from the lawn mower, other garden debris. It helps you save money because you are only filling the planter bed halfway with soil - the other half is all the logs/twigs at the bottom. The logs hold moisture, so you don't have to water as often. They also break down slowly to feed the microorganisms and worms, giving you better soil and better crop production. But if you look at the price of soil, it costs a small fortune to fill a planter bed nowadays if you're buying it from a local garden store. Save yourself some money and fill those beds halfway with all those branches/logs you've got. Oh, and if you do end up burning a bunch of the fallen wood, save the ashes. Mix the ashes into your planter beds. No different than the potash you buy at a local garden center to feed your vegetables.

Welcome to home ownership Turner fam! Yes it’s always something! The sink faucet may be getting water behind it and it’s dripping under the sink. My second guess would be the sprayer hose. Frequently leak. I’m so sad Mother Nature hit you hard only six months in but now you know that the trees close to your home need to go! Moisture is a big issue of course causing mold. Have your roof buddies check that addition roof. Vents should go to the outside of course. A dehumidifier will help temporarily .Don’t give up! Things you fix now will pay off in the long run. Issac, hang in there. Start with the faucetts which is pretty easy. Then you need to get the bathroom vent outside the house not into the back area. You should be able to vent it above the ceiling into a pipe that could run along the joists in the addition. If you can get above the fan and out, you could mount a second fan in the wall towards the top and vent it out. You have to get the extra moisture out of the house. Check for drainage around the slope behind the house. You need to keep the water moving away from the house even if it is just graded away. Once you have eliminated the extra moisture and drainage, you need to get rid of the mold in the back room. Hopefully, it is not in the walls. If it is, you will have to address that. Keep plugging away. You are playing catchup for years of neglect. It will get better but it is a lot of work.

Hi Isaac!!! I had a couple of similar issues at my last house. I changed out the entire faucet and it was good to go! You can do that super easily. (Clean the mold appropriately of course.) For the vent fans, manufactured homes are the worst. Do yourself a favor and change the bathroom fan.. You can get a similar size but more powerful at Ace or any hardware store!! Easy install!!! ❤❤❤ OH AND ALSO - you can change the bathroom vent fan to exit to the roof rather than the side to the addition.

Isaac, tackle all the problems one problem at a time, starting with the most urgent problem first, then the next problem and so on. Before you know it you will have them all tackled and dealt with. Owning property is a lot of work but it is so rewarding. You’re new at this, give yourself grace. Really, a large portion of the problems you mentioned you know how to deal with. In my opinion if y’all are not using the covered moldy back added on back porch, I say tear it down. That really would solve so much of your mold and ventilation issues. Y’all don’t give up, you are both hard workers there’s nothing you mentioned y’all can’t handle. The only thing you may need help with is that closed in back porch. Mold is very bad so that needs to be dealt with fairly quickly. If y’all decide you want to keep it, call someone who knows how to deal with mold removal, and find someone that can help you with the leaks you mentioned back there. Not the ones under the sink you know how to fix those. Y’all can do this. In the long run y’all will be so glad you stuck it out and didn’t give in to defeat. Neither one of you are quitters so hunker down and get her done. Y’all have a really good place to raise Ember. It’s going to be okay. You just gotta get the right mind set and remember why y’all chose that property in the first place. We’re all cheering y’all on.😊

One thing I think I noticed was the lack of rain gutters along your porch roof, that would direct the water away from your foundation. The other thing I would do on the side porch is purchase a dehumidifier with a long drain hose to collect water and drain it automatically out of the porch area. Then I would spray the black mold with bleach or a chemical spray. We had fantastic results using Wet & Forget which we purchased from Costco. It worked wonders and it's been about 5 years, no mold and no algae. Good luck!

Did you have a home inspection before you got your mortgage? The mold and leaking water issues should’ve been addressed. Before you signed off on the loan. Go back and reread your loan docs. My husband and I purchased, remodeled and flipped homes for years. You have to decide how long you plan to hold the property. If you want out of the home as soon as possible, deal with the more serious issues so it will pass further home inspections. ie: mold and water issues affecting the structure and roof issues.

That property has potential to be a very pretty setting. Powerwash the cement areas, plant a few flowers, do something that you can visually see on the property to help you get motivated for research and repair. Keep your workspace relatively clean and organised, keep stuff put away. No sense spend all the time to clean up the shop for it to go off the rail and then you have to spend an entire weekend cleaning the shop again. We've (or most) have been there done that (many times probably). Maybe a condo/townhome is better suited for your life style. You both seem to be/get frustrated with that land.

Hi, I’m actually a mobile home owner as well, it’ll be a year in May, 1st I’ll address the leaks under the sink, the gray pipes must be replaced with red or blue pipes because the gray pipes are cheaper and quick to leak. Now as far as the mold, well, you must first spray the mold you can’t get to right away for health reasons, just get you some bleach and some spray bottles and spray the mold, it’ll clear it up. I actually only had mold on the walls around my water heater, I sprayed, actually saturated the 2 walls, left it, went back the next day the mold was gone. Check you vents on ur roof, ur going to need a dehumidifier, perhaps a few of them for the different parts of the house, you must avoid the build up of humidity; you may have holes in the roof and along side your house or poor spouts. Now back to the leaks, I’ve had to replace the plumbing in the wall of my shower and added a shutoff valve, under the tub, the work is massive, I hope I was somewhat helpful.

Faucet needs to have a good seal against sink. Try a sealant between base of tap to sink because if you have any water on edge of sink or just from wet hands it will run down. Also check around the knobs of tap when you turn them on because this will also weep down from there if not sealed correctly but is also easy to rebuild taps. Exhaust vent fans need to be blown out periodically because of dust buildup. Exhaust vents need to be exhausted outside and not into a room or attic. Leaks on fireplace/roof are easily repaired with roof sealant. You can buy mold resistant paint for the addition to help with mold but I would first start with crawling underneath the floor and make sure it has poly underneath with good ventilation/drainage otherwise you will never stop it if it’s coming from underneath….my guess is someone built a room onto a outdoor deck ? So it will just be dirt underneath ? As for trees …if they look like a problem then trim them up and try to prevent it before winter/storms but trees will break even if you think they are fine once in a while. This is just part of owning an older house with large trees. All easy to fix and normal repairs ….learn to enjoy working on your house and not turning it into a burden that is taking up all of your free time….you had a child/bought a house you have no free time anymore so you Midas well enjoy your new boring life that all adults have to live 😂😂

10:28 it looks here as though part of the problem with the lean to is the roof is too level. If rain water comes down off the main roof, does it go into a proper gutter, or down onto the almost flat roof? Is there moss growing up there? Any kind of vegetation would stop proper drainage. Maybe build it again with a better slope? 15:08 you can see a good roof angle here, on the building behind you

Hi Isaac, the person who build the add on made the mistake of not adding more conduit to the extractor fans so that they vented outside the house. This will be the cause of 60% of your mould. The rest will be cardboard that absorbs moisture and any gaps in windows etc. You'd be better starting from scratch.

Advice to both of you! In your area due to the weather changes yes, water leaks are common because of how cold it gets in your case, I recommend that you shut down all water pipes and replace them all as soon as possible the next state like yours is Maine as temperatures goes. As for the time being, again, I would have kept the big bus up live-in until I had everything replaced with new stuff now I would live full-time in the camper and shut everything down until I can get to everything and see if you can tap into your water supply into the campers, water supplies and live in it full time, the house care is completely done again this is why I would keep the big bus is the shower availability. This is why selling the big school bus is a disaster in this situation. Unless you build another bus for the rest of the stuff that you need and still live in the camper for housing while the rest of the house is shut down for complete repairs are completely completed. Again welcome to homeownership in the area where you live at this point, in time build-out the van with what you want to have to live and do that as fast as both of you can do, and never sell them because they are your ability to live in without getting a hotel room you are going to have to think about showering unless the van has one. Again shut the house down during the summer and fix everything as long you have the van and the camper to live in until the whole thing is finished and still have back living situation until you have a backup place to live in when home issues like this welcome to homeownership. I am just giving both of you advice you can take it or leave it alone! Sincerely! R.S.V.

Your plumbing under the sinks are minor problems. I doubt you need to replace your faucets, (unless you just just don't like them), basically, you probably just need to tighten the connectors on the pipes. Don't tear down your back porch. It will create more problems than you realize. Get some dehumidifiers to remove the excess moisture in the air. BTW, that water from dehumidifiers is great for steam irons! I save a couple of jugs of that water every summer. LOL Has the outside of the cinder blocks been waterproofed? Chances are they haven't been, if water is seeping through. You'll need to waterproof them. If water is seeping down your walls on the outside wall, then you have a problem on your roof or gutters. Ask your roofing buddy to help you with this. The vent under the microwave, what type of filter does it use? If it's metal, you can just take it out, and with Dawn dish soap and hot water, wash it (with steel wool so as not to grate up your fingers), to degrease it, then when dry, put it back. If it's not metal, then just replace it. As for the fan in the bathroom, unless it is hooked up to an exhaust pipe leading to the outside, all it is doing is circulating the air, which believe it or not, is better than nothing. Believe it or not, these repairs are minor. You can look up on UKposts how to fix these things yourself. --

You don't want it seeping through the walls and spreading into the house. This is very toxic and could make you guys very sick. Just take one job at a time and don't overwhelm yourself. Get a plumber to fix your water leak problem. Maybe one of your friends could help you fix some of these problems.

Hey Isaac, I would take a look at the outside in the back of of your addition. is there dirt and debris right up to your wall? You may have to avert water from that area by putting in a french drain. Also, dirt gets so compacted; maybe adding some rock to an area may help with drainage and also may be aesthetically pleasing. We lived in a mobile home for 20 years. had it torn to the studs and reframed put in real sheetrock and cabinets, real tile floors and real oak flooring. It was gorgeous. Even with all that new stuff, we still had normal issues such as yours. Don't be dismayed. handle important stuff like leaks first and move onto the mold. See if you can get the microwave vent vented through the roof. Have a professional do it. Oh, before I foret, we had the same issue in our bathroom with the vent. We used kills paint(kills mold while it covers) and look into a new fan. you can retro fit regular stuff into a mobile home it just may take a bit more time. Not everything has to be bought at a mobile home supply store. Good luck to you and the wife.

I would rip that back room out and redo with screened in porch and take everything out of there. Weatherize it in winter but take plastic down in summer and just use it as a screened in porch. Leave the roof on for cover though. Painters used a spray bleach solution to deal with the small amount of mold that formed on our covered front porch before painting and said if it comes back, and by the way, the reason it happens is our dryer vent is on the side of our garage which is by our porch and also we have a fountain so any moisture from those can't dry well due to the fact our porch faces north and we get no sun directly on it to dry it out. It requires maintenance, which is what the painters told us. Bleach/water spray solution.

Isaac, I am not first time homeowner but have bought my retirement home about 4 years ago. Different address different problems. Homes are always a challenge but still worth it. Use UKposts for instructions or go to your local home store, they are willing to help as well with instructions. You can find a local handyman to come and give you advice as well. Extraction fans if not vented correctly will not work. And roofing, you need to find someone to help you there my friend. I would never attempt a roof and there are too many ways they can leak. That leak through the wall can be coming from the roof as well. My brother had a roof leak on a 3 story home and the leak came down to his living room, 1st floor, from roof leak, 3rd floor. Mold comes with water and you need to clean it constantly but if the repairs aren’t made that will turn into rot for the wood. My advice is get that roof fixed before anything else in the house and you will see a big difference in your major problems. Good luck my friend and welcome to home ownership.

I m’d find a way to put a smaller wood stove in the house for when natural disasters happen and you’ll need a heat source. All that wood in the burn pile can be stacked and seasoned for the future to be burned to warm your home. Those branches make great kindling when dried out.

Also, using stakes to keep those logs from shifting can save you not losing a leg, foot, or being speared by a sharp end of a log. You ahould stack and save the smaller wood to cure it for future kindling the small limbs burn yes save the two - three inch stuff let it cure for future use!
