At this point in time it would cost you 398+ tax for the plastic dustpan that is the cheapest and 4.98$ for a bucket so I guess it breaks down to what’s your time worth And how much of appreciation you get for doing something yourself.

Just the other day I was sitting on the tractor (contemplating life's various sundries) when I realized diesel was leaking out of the hose leading to the tractor's fuel pump... I needed a bucket and I needed it fast. Now, I guess I could have used a dust pan but we're talking about a 5 gallon fuel tank that probably had 3 gallons in it at the time.

Also I use old buckets to make scoops for plaster/stucco. Same way, just smaller.
