Using a ceramic parallel with a tantalum is my favorite decoupling option. Polymer film capacitors are another cool option.

The electrolytic capacitors on old macintosh logic boards is a common reason why they malfunction. Most times, one can remove the cap, clean the board of the leaked acid, and, if the acid hasn't caused TOO much corrosion, a tantalum capacitor can be resoldered in lieu of the electrolytic type. I wash my logic boards in my dishwasher. Seriously, this process works like a charm, just be sure to thoroughly dry the board (including the water trapped under surface-mounted chips) before introducing power.

You can pre heat your oven to 200f and turn the heat off and place your board in on a tray to dry it. 30 minutes ought to be enough

@@jamesdriscoll_tmp1515 you can also do an alcohol dip and that will cause the water to evaporate even faster.

Take the last digit and add that many zeros. This will give you the value in picofarads. example: 102 -> the first '10' give a value of 10pF, adding two zeros gives you 1000pF which is the same as 1nF.
