Eventually rules were made on fuel temperature. After that he made his fuel lines 11 feet long and 2 inches thick to allow him to carry more fuel, he was eventually told he could not do this anymore. He eventually put a basketball in his fuel tank that he would inflate during inspection to make his fuel tank measure to be within rule specification but he would then deflate during the race and fill with more fuel.

Funniest story my Dad ever told me was when he drove into a service station, walked out of the shop as Clarkson was walking in during a filming segment, forgot where he'd seen Clarkson's face before but thought maybe he'd seen him at a work do or a party, and treated him like a mate. As a result of being old & crumbly but yet modern, here in the UK we measure roads in miles, vehicle dimensions in mm, engines in litres, fuel (and boot space) in litres but fuel economy in mpg. And those three would all give their height in feet & inches.

I really enjoy this compilation because I think service stations are cool places in general. There aren't many places in the modern world where people actually have a necessity to gather in one place anymore and fuel stations are one of the few where complete strangers from all walks of life find themselves crossing paths for a common purpose. In a way, they're sort of like remnants of the trading posts that you'd see on remote trails of the old West. It's just a shame that the landscape has become so commercialized, I miss the old truck stop fuel stations from the 80s where you'd have a whole bar and restaurant on the same lot. Dark nights on the highway demanded a little oasis like that for respite.

7:19 That’s actually terrifying. Last summer, I did a roadtrip with some friends from Gävle, Sweden to Hamar, Norway, which is about 420 km (6h). From Hamar, we drove south to Oslo (120 km, 2h) and from Oslo, back to Gävle via Västerås (550 km, 7h). We left Gävle at about 4:00 PM and arrived in Hamar at about 1:00 AM, back again in Gävle at about 2:00 PM. I drove the whole time since we used my car, and I was awake for 27 hours, and I drove for 15 hours more or less straight. We attempted to sleep in the car once we arrived i Hamar, but it was impossible. The thing is, I was not tired at all while driving, but fell asleep as soon as I got home. And I slept to the next day.
