I believe Delirium would be better served by having multiple actors playing the role.

As for my Delight/Delirium twisting. I think it happened when people realized they couldn't finish all of their goals. Death said "In the beginning no one had ever died. So people didn't feel bad. They just took the same energy and outlook you get starting a new beginning." I think in the beginning there was only delight because the world was new. Everything seems accomplishable. Then mortality started to show people some dreams will never be fulfilled. Then more and more intransitance compounded dreams deferred. Thus delirium was spawned.

2 mysteries of Sandman that always bothered me was how and why Delight became Delirium (and her next evolution), and how and why the first Despair perished. They did show the first iteration of Despair in the Sandman Endless nights ( The genius of Gaiman having Despair discussing the future destruction of Krypton and basically Kal-el being it’s sole survivor)

Perhaps she is ironically more representative of logic and reason with that being why she transformed. First she much more represented a curiosity based logic and reason and that led only to delight. As we developed and got more introspective with more and more Information feeding back into our society and interconnecting with her she became delierium always trying to balance all those different thoughts and self anaylsis feed back into her. She is in a sense both cursed with knowledge yet also has to experince this feedback at the same time yet it doesnt benefit her in the same way so thus delirium

Personally...my theory as to her change has something to do with her whole family....either that or she also embodies the saying "all good things must come to an end" or "too much of a good thing is bad"

It's my own personal theory, but I think Desire had something to do with Delight becoming Delerium

I always felt Delight became Delerium because of some terrible trauma that we aren't told about.

I always thought Delight was one end of the Human experience spectrum that transitioned to the other end of the spectrum (Delirium) but will one day transition to the middle of that spectrum to become Design.

The funny thing is that one of the few people I had ever pictured as Delirium was Amanda Palmer, back during Dresden Dolls (before she was ever with Neil). As for actors: Ruth Negga, Patricia Allison & Tanya Reynolds all have an almost inhuman quality about them whilst being talented actors. But I honestly have such faith in the casting choices of The Sandman team that I will trust in whatever direction they go.

I'm sorry I have to be that person- the pics of Delirum about four minutes in is actually Nualla. The pics of "Tiffany" are actually of Etain of the Second Look. I love this series more than most things in this world.

Could it be that delirium is the embodiment of all humans thought and ideas, good and bad ones. Which is why she is all knowing. The only reason she is delirium rather than delight is because of the change the people have had overtime with life and death and there idea of how the world should work/function? With the people acting as such to some degree creates these bad thoughts about one another that later gets sent to delirium or even delight prior to changing into delirium. I’m assuming idk anything about sandman but this is me spitballing. Let me know what you think?

Her personality and also her first appearance are reminiscences of a postmodern poet, writer, punk, feminist, and a close friend of Neil's - Kathy Acker herself. She is a notable and a huge influence on this character. Kathy Acker wrote about some really heavy and disturbing stuff. Really experimental and provocative for her times. Also misunderstood by the mainstream. I think all of those aspects can be found in Delirium's characteristics

Paying attention to the history of mankind and the time periods taking place in The Sandman is absolutely critical to figuring out their origins. Consider when Dream was captured and where. It took place. 1916, the United Kingdom was experiencing a LOT of war related crap. The 1920s was the golden age before WWII finally escalated and broke out. Consider the time period when Delight first felt the strange sensation of change and the fact she was talking to Destruction when this happened- consider what they were wearing. You'll have an idea of the time period, and when you correlates that to what was happening with humanity you can already get a sense and feel of why she changed. Same thing with other key parts like when Destruction left, or when Dream was talking to the second Despair about the previous Despair. It's been a while, but I also believe Dream had a talk with Destruction in the past during a time period when experimentation on animals was happening. Humanity had a Dream, and Destruction hailed in the results of that dream. All of The Endlesd are a personification of humanity in The Sandman. Therefore, how they are is why they reflect us back as a collective. Otherwise, it would be pointless for key characters to see The Endless differently than others. This is also why the new TV series NEEDS to stick with the story and avoid things like diversity inclusion when it will mar the reflected historical past that helped create the story to begin with. It's ok to an extent (like Lucifer, Desire, and even Death due to their origins and relation to humanity), but key aspects like changing Rose's entire family race is going against the time period and places (because it's nonsensical for an overly privileged black family to be able to have that in an area and time that encouraged slavery) therefore completely changing that critical concept that makes The Sandman what it is. I'm half and half on Lyta's development, but that's also because I don't know where it's going and how much it will deviate from the original concept. Also I think the story would've been more dark than they were comfortable with airing on tv with everything else going on on top of diversity inclusion, but still something that could've had more sustenance had they not downplayed it when reality can be that dark if not worse.
