I have an iPod Mini in Pink that belonged to my late sister. I gave it to her for Christmas in 2004 and had it engraved for her, she kept it fully boxed even after it stopped working. It’s now a special keepsake and something that reminds me of good times together. I’ve also have her iPod Classic which is full of all the music she loved, again a special item that I keep very safe and will always treasure. My first experience with an Apple device was a Power Macintosh Performa 6200 in the mid 90’s! However first modern Apple device was the original iPhone, then switched fully to Mac when I bought my first iMac.

Even though I used a Mac at work from the mid to late ‘90s I was a “never Apple” person for home use until the release of the 5G iPod (aka, Video iPod). My opinion on Apple changed 180° and now I’m fully into the Apple ecosystem. I’m also happy about the shoutout for Snow Leopard. My first Mac came with Leopard and I still remember how easy and cheap the upgrade to Snow Leopard was compared to any MS Windows upgrade I had made. Also, I still love the look and feel of Snow Leopard.

Thank you, for this excellent and enjoyable post with a walk down "memory lane". You asked, what was my first Apple device? ... it was a 1996, All-in-One 5400 desktop with a 603(e) processor, an Apple internal video card system, an Apple internal TV/FM radio card system with its matching "black and white" remote control unit. Also, you asked, what were my all time favorite vintage items from Apple? ... for desktop computers it would be my glossy white 20-inch G5 iMac (which, I still use daily); for laptop computers it would be my sliver 12-inch G4 PowerBook and for ports, it has a 56K modem, Ethernet, Fire-wire 400, audio-in, audio-out, two (2) USB "A" ports and of course it has a built-in DVD super-drive ; for music it would be my glossy white classic iPod 5th generation; for video it would be my 4th generation iPad with 128GB and the cell data option; and for software it would be the following: iLife '09, iWorks '09, Apple Works, and Word Perfect (smile...smile).
@AppleInsider
@AppleInsider Місяць тому
Thanks friend! It was really fun to do. I know the "iWork" suite still kind of exists today -- Photos, Garageband, Maybe Clips or iBooks too, but I wish Apple had kept it as its own thing and expanded the software. @@AppleInsider Thank you, for replying to my post. Well, all three (3) of my Apple laptops are vintage models and each date between the years between 2000 to 2007. After this period Apple, Inc. took the fun out of their laptop computers: because they no longer have DVD super-drives, can no longer be controlled by Apple's white remote control unit, and not even the Apple logo "lights-up" when the unit is powered-on, plus there are no longer RAM or SSD upgrades. While, I have enough money to buy any of Apple's laptop systems yet, I cannot think of anything to use them for since, I also own an Apple desktop and 9th generation iPad (smile...smile).

@@transitengineer I thought the 2008 also did? But I could be wrong. Since it was my first one, I didn't exactly know how new it was or how far along it was in the product cycle when I bought it. Like you I still remember the first Apple purchase. It was a lime green iMac back in 1997, I think. My first computer was a Packard Bell and it was the first blue screen of death I'd experienced, so, I bought the iMac as a replacement and haven't really looked back. The purchase was a Micro Center and I remember paying with a check since my debit card had a $1,000 purchase limit.

It kind of is burned into my memory. It still fills me with excitement! I love that iMac in green too. Just way too cool. I really miss Apple leaning into some of the fun colors. They did things different. Back then no one used apps for their routers -- they were those complicated web interfaces. And there were few plug-and-play backup solutions like that either. It's a shame Apple stopped innovating in this space because I think Apple could do a lot here.
