the circuit is designed to have that LED in series. removing it distributes the remaining current to the remaining LED modules, which will burn the remaining LEDs faster, and poses a fire risk. Can you provide the make of the LED module that was removed so it can be properly replaced?

What resistor should one place when by passing one led, if it's not done the others will be brighter and burn faster

How did you determine that was the defective led?

That LED had a black spot on it, which means that it is gone. You can also check all of them by using a multimeter, putting it in diode mode. Remember that not all LED's have that spot if they are not good.

Replacing the blown smd with a similar value resistor would work, but shorting will only burn the rest of the LEDs because the voltage is higher for all the smds in series. Such an amateur approach.
