Try to intimidate kids to assault him, after he's already assaulted one of them. Good on those kids for not falling into the trap. And the absolutely pathetic "I'm the victim here' attitude when the other officer arrived? He might as well have been made of glass. The officer knew from jump the Chief was lying. @dougspidermanhappy5 місяців тому
@@2genders-tk2ue”defund the police” means strip down the bloated police budget, and increase the number of social workers who can reach peaceful solutions and help people. Most of the time the police are called, it’s because someone is having a crisis, a mental health issue, or domestic argument, that kind of thing. And cops are usually terrible at de escalating tension. Even when they’re good with people, they’re intimidating to people. So it’s best to use the right tools for the situation. If someone with a gun is murdering kids in a classroom, then you send cops - though if you follow the news you’ll know they are useless in that situation, too.

@jayg3395 місяців тому
The term "defund the police" is a poor term for what I think most people want. Police Officers kind of serve a wide net of services that they aren't always prepared for. For example, they deal with a lot of mental health situations. Now people going through mental health crisis can be unstable, and police have an ability to defend with lethal force if they feel threatened. Because there are a lot of guns in the United States, it leads to a lot of situations where police have to use their weapon. One of the suggested alternatives is diverting certain funding away from law enforcement(defund) into a mental health crisis team that would deal with those types of calls instead of police. Then there is corruption. The idea is drop funding for agencies that are/have been accused of corruption or employ known corrupt law enforcement officers. Now I don't particularly agree with it because, like you said, it doesn't solve the problem. The problem is more that a lot of prosecutors/police departments work hand in hand and the people who investigate abuses of power or corruption are highly tied in with the department. It's kind of impossible to avoid because they work together. So the better solution there would be to have some type of independent board that is responsible for these types of investigations. Regardless of if the investigation is partial or impartial, it tends to look really bad when an officer is accused of misconduct and the police department puts out a statement saying something to the effect of "the officers actions were within the perimeters of their legal authority and justified by A,B,C, etc." Needless to say it's a complicated issue that like many things requires multifaceted solutions. @@petervanquish

@@TheSykoRC The police, like doctors, have near absolute power over people's lives. Though in case of a poor doctor not knowing their job all you'll hear about a patient's -eath is akin to "his body didn't make it" (it's never the doctor's fault, eh?) In case of police, their incompetence, blissfulness and fear for their own job might land people in -rison or financial/emotional ruin, trying to defend themselves from wrong accusations and foregone conclusions. If they're not able to handle innocent cases, peaceful provocations, are they really fit to do their jobs in other situations, including use of -irearms? Impeccable behaviour is far too costly to teach, add to that personal quirks and insecurities people will try to compensate for while in a position of power. The second case is a perfect example (night cyclists), the officer is 1) old "know it all" 2) a head in dept 3) and a policeman. That's the explanation of his actions and psychology; knowing the law and how to conduct would merely be a tranquilizing brake to his innate behaviour. Apropos auditors. How would the night cyclist case unfold had the guy responded physically after the flashlight bump? Emphasis AFTER. Though I doubt it'd be in the boys' favor. It will then show if there is any amount of alcohol in the breath and if there is, the police officer will put a tube on and the test will be repeated. I get what you’re saying. Maybe if they paid the same salary as a therapist they could attract better candidates. Then they would be able to weed those types out more quickly because they wouldn’t be just trying to fill positions with the few people willing to take the job. Paying off that kind of student loan debt on an officer’s salary would take forever. Also, not many people want to have their lives in danger on a daily basis for the low pay & long, bad hours. The reality is that when the pay is low, the work is hard, & the treatment by the public is disrespectful at best, the quality of candidates reflects this. The good guys no longer think it’s worth it anymore. The obvious solution would be to have higher salaries & higher pre-qualifications in order to apply. I have mixed feelings. He should have just gotten a warning or ticket for the high beams, end of story. That's clear. However, it is utterly foolish to play ego games with a cop. In your own self interest, you should pretend to be the most contrite, respectful little dork in town. A cop's ego boost is directly proportional to how big of a slick, macho asshole they think you are when they're deciding how to treat you. Never put them in a position where they have to try to save face, because they will always choose their pride over what's right.

They were not being destructive, and they weren't drinking/drugging. This was probably their first interaction with a LEO, and that will stay with them likely forever. These types of police misconduct are all over social media. It's quite sad when a good portion of the public is hesitant to call their local police for help when they need it because they fear the entire force is corrupt and the call will somehow blow back on them. It's as if the police forces are operating in the 1950s while everyone else is living in 2024. I really believe we need a federal law requiring officers to have body-cams footage of all arrests made in uniform because there are still police and sheriff departments that don't use body-cams at all. I worked on a defendant's case from Polk Co., Florida, and I thought there was some mistake when there was no body-cams footage in Discovery. The Polk Co. Sheriff makes enormous busts practically every month and holds a press conference within a couple of days of the bust. These arrests make national headlines, but knowing what I now know, I definitely wouldn't put it past this sheriff to fabricate evidence in order to get a conviction. I have never said nor thought that about any sheriff or chief. I bet you have even seen a few of his pressers on YT. When I was 18 or so, I got a brand new sound system in my car. I was super excited about it and was driving around all night playing with the settings, etc. About 6am, I got pulled over in a shopping center for my bass being loud. The excuse for an officer said he knew I was on drugs and made me do a bunch of field sobriety tests. I aced each one. He then called the DRE (drug recognition expert). The DRE showed up and got in my face like he was about to fight me. I told him about the sound system and that I was really excited about it and was testing it out. He insisted I was "on a speedball". I told him he could search my car, drug test me, or bring me to jail if he was so confident. He did the same tests again, and after I passed every one of them, he told the officer who pulled me over, " He definitely did something, but he passed the tests. Did he run a stop sign or anything else? Otherwise, I can't take him in." Luckily, the cop who pulled me over didn't lie and said I didn't do anything wrong while driving. It was just the loud music. The DRE then told me that he knew I did some drugs but didn't have the evidence to take me in. He also said that if drove away after the encounter, he would follow me until I made a mistake on the road and would take me to jail. He insisted that I "should" call someone to pick me up. He then waited in the parking lot after searching my car multiple times. He did not leave until I pretended to call someone and went to a Starbucks in the parking lot. When I do this, I remain calm, become exceedingly polite and respectful but firm and resolute in my position.
