When I left the US, I gave one car to my brother-in-law and the other to a nephew. My job in life is to help those whom I care about. Family helps family. Could I have added some money to my bank account? Sure. Would I have felt better with the money rather than the hugs from my family, absolutely not.

Yeah, but flying his son down to him and letting him drive up would make a lot more sense to me. My back hurt just watching that.

I was raised by parents the exact same way in principle! Mostly by my mom and grandma who lived with us. Dad preached the same but did the opposite, he always said do as I say not as I do! Now the tables have turned and I just had to tell my dad that he can’t come live with us! I’m flying out Wednesday to Mississippi to help my sister evict him from her property and he thought I was flying one way to help move his rv to my place in Tennessee! Since my mom passed he has been parked on my sisters property living in his class a rv, he blew through $250,000 dollars in life insurance and is now talking bankruptcy so she is ready for him to go b4 his coach gets repossessed and it’s even harder to get him gone! I turned the tables and used his life lessons that he gave us back to him! I told him that if he had invested the money and or used it to pay off all his debt including the coach then he wouldn’t be in his situation, but letting him move into my house with no means to support himself ( his social security is eaten up by a brand new truck payment and insurance) is a dead end to solving his problems and he needs to figure it out and get stable b4 my wife and would even consider letting him stay awhile. Cause right now it would inevitably be be more than a while and he refuses to let anyone look at his finances or listen to recommendations like selling the truck paying it off and using the rest to buy a used vehicle with cash thus freeing up $1200 a month that could go towards rent or a small camper payment! Being a kid of a father like that was hard, but being an adult and dealing with your father like that is hard enough without making it ten times worse!

My folks always taught us you're never so broke that you can't help someone. We weren't given everything either, we earned our spending money and bought and paid for our own vehicles plus upkeep. Our folks were always there if we needed it, sometimes stuff happens thats not your fault- we learned to figure our way out but just a couple of times they helped. Your helping Mick will teach him a lot. It's hard when there's just no vehicles to be had. You sure went through some beautiful country, here in Oklahoma we call them Buffalo as well. Glad you had a safe journey, thanks for taking us along. I believe Mick will make it, it just takes some figuring out- you two gave him great lessons to help him do that. Stay safe and GOD bless

I agree with you, but I'll add this, at 56 years old, I've found, that some of the greatest hands up, has nothing to do with Cash.. A phone call, a home cooked meal, just spending time together, listening without, trying to fix things. This list could go on and on, but it important to remember, when you treat people well. They will remember it in their darkest hours... The power of kindness, is something that will never be forgotten..

As a father we all want better for our children than what we had and we want to help them succeed in life but yet, we have to learn to let them walk/run on their own which at times can be hard for a father to watch. Amazing video - no need to see the white knuckle snow storms but 70 mph speed up down the mountain was both exciting and frightening - great wisdom at the end - actions speak louder than words - if you are able and can help out in the short term in a practical and positive way - it speaks loudly as to where your heart is - and I am sure your huge effort will not be forgotten but accepted gratefully and will be passed on - not the never ending bank of Mum and Dad or a kind Uncle but a great way to show and demonstrate Love that needs no repayment but no doubt will leave a lasting, motivating and spirit enriching encouragement to someone in a particular short term tight spot - will watch again !!!☘

My husband and I vacationed in Alaska last August. We drove from Fairbanks back to Anchorage via the Richardson Highway (we even stopped to top off our gas in Delta Junction). It was raining during most of our trip and even with just rain it was the scariest driving I've ever done. Long construction zones through pure mud, switchbacks with steep drop offs on one side, cliffs on the other. Worrying about seeing a moose (or other large critter) in the middle of the highway at any time. I have so much respect for anyone who drives through there on a regular basis, especially during the winter.

Seeing your worst fog in years makes me remember about 10 years ago when I first started being an over the road truck driver.. the fog you showed was about the worst I had ever seen up until that point, there's places in the mid 48's that will blow your mind how thick the fog gets. One of my first nights out, I hit a 1.5 HOUR long stretch of fog you couldn't see past the nose of the truck. Scared the living hell out of me and had me doing 35mph all night with semis flying by me. I had no clue how they seen until I learned they couldn't see either just hammered down and hoped for the best since nobody else was out there.. true white out conditions with no snow.

I don't think I could do it all alone especially in a trailer or RV. Please post more of your trips. I lo e nature. So concerned about the loss of the artic and wild animals like the polar bears and seals. Live life to the fullest if you can. Seems you know all about hardships and value of all the good times God provides. Pray you and Brook and kids stay safe. Oh...love your humor. Enjoyed hearing about your prior jobs and life experiences. Thanks.

Words of wisdom! As a Mother who ended up raising 6 kids without a spouse I was on the end of receiving always knowing one day I would be the one giving. Truly a blessing!❤

I grew up in St. Ignace, thanks for including the Mackinac Bridge. Both of my grandfathers were underwater welders on the team that built that bridge.

Drove that Alcan four times in the 1960s, first time in VW bug down to Texas in summer. Second and third in VW camper in winter and last time also in winter but only to Haines and caught the ferry to VC. Definitely preferred the winter driving - of course that was before they paved the road and it was so much smoother covered in ice. Did a whiteout on the last trip. I enjoyed your video, great memories. Stayed in Toad River on the first trip down...at that time you went in and picked an empty room and left the money on the table if you showed up after hours, which we did. No locks on any doors then.

Wow Mick looks just like you. Nice of you to take him the car. Too bad he couldn’t get his fixed. I grew up in Fairbanks. I’ve driven the Alcan 5 times, once in the winter going back up. I’d love to drive it again one of these years, maybe after I retire, take a nice long road trip to visit again. Take care.

Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing. I grew up on the shores of Lake Huron. I have a brother who lives in the U.P. & cousins in Vancouver. Helping your adult children out once in awhile is not solving their problems. It’s being a good parent & good karma. Stay blessed!

My dad has been buying me cars since 1992. I got a divorce an driving a 1965 ford falcon to work. 2 hours a day. An they are not good in snow or wind! I like used cars like you guys. Waste of money for plates and insurance on new ones. Never knew when he'd show up with a nother car. But i had to sell the other one right then! Never got to choose what i would get. I'd just get in an drive an thank him. He finally gave me his truck! I was in heaven! Drove it maybe 4 years 34,000 miles an my neighbors tree crushed it! It was a sad day! I talked him into buying my great niece a car because she was walking an uber to her 1st job in Indianapolis. He did an she got a better job, farther away from her house. Safety 1st!!! He has the money so its different. I so glad you got your son a car!!! Thank you!

I had a chuckle when you we're talking about how you occasionally use the word "EH". Being born and raised in Minnesota, this word was so normal, you didn't even think about it's use. I have since moved from the state and for the most part lost my, Minnesota accent. However, I still use the word "EH", it just naturally comes out. There are times, where folks question the use of this word and my reply is always the same. "I prefer to say EH verse HUH"! 😅😂🤣
