We didn't believe it at first, but then a series of 15-meter cable trays showed up all coiled up.
The Rollatray from Metpro was originally designed for installation under raised flooring systems. We decided to try installing for applications in which you'd normally use a regular cable tray.
See what happened.
Here's the short video which caused so much fuss - • BONKERS - CABLE TRAY o...

Wow guys..that rollatray is a time saver for real...no mess...all clean...for electrical wiring is alpha...im thinking that data cables if they are a lot putting those on a heavy duty flexible conduit will be happy days too ..nice one

I don’t think it’s the best looking, but in areas it won’t be seen ie lift shafts or even risers, it looks fast and space saving. Nice

How sharp are the edges? Could you run your hand over it without cutting your hand?

I doubt it. Definitely not after it's been cut.

Ideal to lift cables out of the insulation in attics & I’m tempted to start installing it under wood floors for main runs.

I wonder if you could have a roller tool to fold the edges up to make it into something more rigid - I've seen something like that in Australia for making guttering on-site from a roll of flat sheet.
@efixx
@efixx 2 роки тому
Ah yes - a bit like zinc roofing
@mowcius
@mowcius 2 роки тому
It's pretty common here in the UK for guttering too - I've had it installed a few times. Aluminium guttering tends to be seamless to just about whatever length you want - a huge advantage over the standard lengths of plastic stuff. It seems like a magic trick the first time you see them do it out of the back of their van.

It probably has its uses, if it saves 90% install time, is it 90% more expensive. Looks rough to me nailing stuff to the wall, especially if it needs to be removed at any point in the future.

Saw this being used in a hotel car park, for lighting install the lads were telling me its shaves hours off the job and the fittings they were using had the same fixing center's as the holes in the tray.

Has it got strength, looks like it's light gauge and will twist once you add weight to it

perfect for lift shafts etc where they use a ton of data on newer lifts with access cards etc, the low profile makes it perfect for that .. great in riser shafts too .. zinc whiskers (crystals) create havoc on sensitive electronics effectively shorting out components, upto 30ma. used to be a massive problem in marine ... data centre is on another planet i hated it ... are they looking to release it in stainless?
@efixx
@efixx 2 роки тому
Good idea on the stainless we will ask!

I would be interested to see if it copes well with multiple cables. The tray above the board behind you looks like it could only contain 5 SWA cables. Can it hold more?
@efixx
@efixx 2 роки тому
It has five tie positions, above that we will need to bundle the cables. Stay tuned as we will be adding more in future videos.

Zinc whiskers offered call zinc smoke from welders its looks like white smoke but isn’t can cause problems for servers as it’s conducive and problems if you breathe it in with taste for a day or two

I like the idea, but would it be more adaptable to cable grouping if there were more raised punch outs along it's width to accommodate more cable tie placements?
@michael931
@michael931 3 місяці тому
Yes. I agree. What do you do with the space between the raised tie points? They could put them closer by staggering them maybe.
