Just wanted to leave a quick comment to thank you for your guidance. I gave electroplating my first try a few days ago following the process you documented in your videos, and even though I still haven't cracked the secret to the ridiculously mirror-y finish you achieve, my first piece came out gorgeous. Your electroplating results are getting pretty impressive, although have you considered using your transparent black acrylic for the black bits? Or even blackening nickel? I am interested in the "micrographite" results, although I suspect there won't be much difference unless there is an increased amount of graphene in it. Have you experimented with carbon nanotubes in the graphite mix?

Really beautiful results, I admire your patience. Maybe you could try doing it on ABS, and skip all the conductive paint thingy to get a perfect first conductive layer using electroless palladium deposition? That's how most plastics get their metallic shine ! I like this method as it's less labor intensive haha, you let the chemistry work its magic.

I use the same micro graphite in a mix with UHU HART and acetone (roughly 30/10/60) which worked best for me so far. Starting with 0,2V and ramping it up to 0,7V as soon an area of around 2cm in diameter is covered with copper. I had several issues with the copper paint. It clogged my airbrush quickly, then first it was too conductive so I had very low copper deposition in recessed areas and once the jar was opened and the painting exposed to the air it totally lost its conductivity after a couple of months. So i guess it has a limited shelf life once opened.

What he's doing here is called a Candy Coat. It has been used in cars for ages, basically means: Silver or Chrome background with clear coats of any particular clear color on top, usually acrylic for hobby projects. Tamiya and Vallejo have both Clear colors in their range for this kind of applications. It's also super common to use either Alclad or Gaianotes chromes for the background layer as well, instead of doing Electroplating, which takes ages and it's hazardous as a process, at least more hazardous than enamel or lacquer paints.
@sircaptain8358

Is there a starter set for electroplating available somewhere? I haven't found any, maybe because I lack the knowledge of the subject a little... It's impressive what you can do with it. By the way, there is a sun protection additive for these candy or ink colours, then the colours don't fade so quickly when you put your object in the window or want to use it outside.
