Maybe they are? Most US folks don't go on camera to boast how they're trying to learn more than the 1 language we just barely grasp, lol - especially when most people in other countries know 2-6 languages.

I think that it’s definitely valid for American Sports players to learn the language. You wouldn’t be able to get a job in Japan if you didn’t speak basic Japanese, nor would you be able to in Germany without knowing some German

Japanese to English and Spanish to English are completely different. Spanish is much more similar to English. This is honestly a very ignorant comment, as someone that has been studying and practicing Japanese for few years now.

@@Awstreamerbtw I’ve lived in Japan. Better is subjective, although I would agree that they do have a better school system in a lot of ways. But that doesn’t matter anyway. Most people in Japan don’t speak English. Not sure what you’re trying to say. They have a good schooling system so they all can speak English? That doesn’t make sense. Especially outside of Tokyo, there is far less English. And ohtani is from Oshu. I’ve never been to Oshu, but I bet they arent speaking a lot of English 😂
