What I’ve learned from Initial D is, 1. Handling and balance is number 1, mastered these then you can start talk about increasing power. 2. Practice makes perfect, skills/knowledge will makes you a powerful person. 3. If you notice, Ryousuke is basically Sun Tzu in 4th stage. He never pick a fight he can’t win, Project D racers always an unknown, he studied everything about the location and his upcoming opponents, he prepared/planned well, he won races with minimum efforts. Ryousuke is a super genius in Initial D. Also, this anime shows us that nothing is perfect, even a superstar like Ryousuke makes few mistakes.

@@jettlucashayes8508 Interesting theory. It was already an old car at the time, but dreadfully fast in capable hands. I don’t know how much it eats its tyres though, being rear engined. I would say in an uphill, it’s very likely to win. Not too sure about the downhill…

I love Takumi's character development. At first he didn't even want to race, he didn't find racing fun but overtime, it grew on him and it became more and more fun!

Sileighty was the cherry on top for me, the storyline built up to the climax of the race. Especially giving Takumi the feeling of adapting to other courses hes not driving before at a high pace

6:13 WHAT!? Toru was my favorite race! He was a character that felt pretty realistic. How many guys have gf that hate their tuned car? His arc is also interesting because he’s a racer who is pretty good, and while racing Takumi, learns that he isn’t one of the people that can become a professional. I’d say that’s a familiar experience to a lot of drivers

Most of, if not all the characters and their cars are based on real street racers from the 80's and early 90's. As are the races/situations. Ryosuke for example is based on a seldom seen Akagi racer, Mr. Hoshino. Who drove a white FC, the cars are nearly identical with Mr.Hoshino even having a red decal over the rear fender.

7:40 you got that wrong, takumi didn't win because Ryosuke tuned his car down, he tuned it down so it would be more controlable in the downhill, he would loose even more if he didn't tune it "down"

most of the relationship stuff in initial D were full of big load of crap. And half the races were most definitely shitty asspull, giving takumi plot armor to win races. Thanks to this D list my Fiancé and I have relived the manga in our closets and watched Legends (We had no idea they remade it with the FD brothers and the Initial Stages)....Thanks donut. We literally remembered a lot of our juvenile past. With some popcorn and remembered the short skirts and sideways Rotary of our own beloved JDM / NZ history (just a bit lower than Australia, still have Holden Utes and some sheep) The fact that at our wedding there will literally be every car on this list as were older but kept the cars alive...Is really kind of Romantic....Long live the 86, long live Donut Media. and Initial D.

I actually liked Sudo while re-watching the anime. You know, he was really cool with Takumi, like, "You've lost, your 86 is just ol' clunker, but i won't accept my victory, come back with a better car". Then Takumi beats him with his 86, and he's just "You win, thank you for such competition, i changed my mind, i'm going to be better, blah-blah-blah". You know it's not about his destination as a character, it's about the way.

To be fair the cars in initial d are made to be characters, and the drivers are just part of what they are. You can’t separate what the driver made of their ride in this show or a lot of these turn into average sports cars that don’t impress anyone.

I had a corolla E101(technically my parents did, from the year 2000) they never drove fast, so the car looked so innocent like it wasn't meant to be bad and crazy, the same engine powers Takumi's eight-six with the extra pro stuff in it, I was so fortunate to sit on one, one side of it makes it look like such a comfy family sedan, the other side, its a MONSTER

Initial D had one of the sickest scenes of showing the interior workings of the cars when they were raced like shifting of gears, opening of intake valve, etc. Dope show 💪💪💪

I found out about Initial-D because I saw a glimpse of a clip of it on an early Up to Speed episode, and immediately said "WHAT WAS THAT", and looked it up. It's an obsession of mine now, I listen to eurobeat almost every time I get in the car. The first two seasons and the "season 3" movie are the best, the rest of the show wasn't nearly as good although it definitely had it's moments. For example, AE86 VS EK9 in season 4 was the best race imho, it just has a magic to it. The length was right, it didn't stretch into 4 episodes full of boring monologue, and the absolute banger of a song Forever Young was allowed to play out fully...when those headlights pop up and you hear "FOREVEEEER" it gives me goosebumps, and it was a perfect fit for the race.

The 22B was my dream car. I was very sad to find out they never imported them, and if I wanted one with left hand drive the best I can hope for is finding the impreza 2.5RS coupe, and adding a turbo, proper suspension, correct rims, ext. Probably cost less to just import the damn 22b after all the time and effort that would take.

Both really horrible things, but kidnapping a girl to force himself on her is lowest of the low. Takumi at least had a shot at defending himself. It's not like Mogi could have packed heat, this is Japan not the US and even then most don't see the need.

I think Takumi will still win even Ryouske didn't tune his car down. He understood that downhill race isn't about horsepower but the ability to comfortably exit corners without putting so much frontal weight. If he didn't tune down his car I think what'll happen is his tires would've gone off a lot earlier.

Here’s some Initial D related trivia: in front of the real-life sign where Mako and Iketani meet, there is a blue Sileighty on display. It used to have a Initial D Mako wrap, but they changed it a month or two ago. Also, if you drive the Usui Pass, the actual restaurant is maybe only a mile down the road from where the race was supposed to end. Also, there’s a Japanese engineer who managed to find an AE85 in great condition, and has been modifying the hell out of the 3A engine. New carburetor, and swapped in a Hayabusa head. Now it revs off the stock meter’s scale, but he thinks it’s over 9000.
