She is incredible with words. I walk away from every conversation she has with so much more knowledge about my own shortcomings, my view point of others intentions, and just life in general. That part about a politician being vulnerable and sharing emotions are leverage vulnerability & exploiting emotions was simple astounding.

Thank you so much Brene and Nora. My mother did all the sadness and depression and my father did all the anger and abuse, while my brother and I were to be quite and behave at all times. Giving myself permission to notice and express my feelings is a lifelong practice.

Meaningful connection depends on the extent to which we depend on how others perceive us. When we develop capabilities to be more interdependent and less dependent on (conditioned by) others, the door to meaningful connections opens, and we do not need as much control over everything.

Waitressing is by far one of the most emotionally challenging jobs. Having been one for many years (25+) we are expected to greet our guests, interpret their moods, needs, demeanor. I often thought of a chameleon, changing my service talents for each different customer. Our very wages were at stake as up to 80% was tips. Truly, it takes not just physical strength but emotional as well. At the end of a shift the drain of this “performance” is palpable. Alcohol is a very common crutch. Like many service jobs, the toll on ourselves, our families is underrated.

😂🤣🤣 the emotion most not allowed in our house was anger. We weren't raised to be strong but to be loving and positive. (That does take strength though)

A word is a static limitation though... life is a flux... no word can do it justice, but yes, we still need a wider vocabulary, we cannot limit emotion

The latin root word of Religion is "religare", meaning "to bind with". So people saying they are spiritual because they want unity. Religion means the same thing.

Oh, darn. I thought this time I’d learn something, but you can’t change the weather. A master of repackaged clichés and adages, a walkin’ talkin’ Cliff Notes. O’Donnell is the expert here - generous with cues & guides that makes Brown seem to be well-rounded expert.

You should listen to her podcast. Particularly the last 2 episodes. She’s a social worker and researcher so her whole thing is learning about how people feel about others and themselves and how that impacts the world and our own well-being and one of her most challenging concepts, even for herself is the idea that everyone is doing the best they can. It’s a really great story and message she shares in those episodes and it’s such a hard concept to grapple with and truly accept, but so so powerful

shame/pride/guilt are in our human blood, which defines our identity. blood unites heart & mind. blood needs to be restored by sharing identity with God / Jesus. no change in mind could heal it, therefore no psychology and other mind manipulations can change you. Catholic sacrament Eucharist (the flesh and blood of Jesus) is the act of blood change.

Well, I’ve been required to listen to some of her presentations of late. She’s a sharp lady, but, I feel like every time she opens her mouth, I have to fight through the “chick talk” in order to get a tiny tidbit of knowledge. Most confident guys will find her studies and observations as tedious and ask themselves…to what end?

It makes her approachable to the average person, which is sorta the goal. If she spoke super academically the average person wouldn’t care to listen. But by telling relatable stories, people can understand her point even if they’re not very emotionally introspective people who have a good grasp on these concepts going into it

@charlesthomas9960 she was part of a movement to silence opposition that turned out to be correctly justified. She is absolutely no good. Low key feminist who fails miserably to understand men interact and are held to different standards than women's feelings.
