I love the fact that the entire episode was “They’re either magic, or they’re the absolute worst neighbors possible”

Matpat retiring really brought out the most wild theories and I’m all here for it.

Their is a giant thing you missed which is a HUGE theory in the community of Bluey. In the episode magic you talked about how mom can do magic, why, well there’s a reason for this. Mom, specifically her side of the family is related to fairies, we learn in the show that there is two types of magic, cheeky and good. The fairies are also described with, “cheeky or good” magic. Part of this theory is also that Mum is secretly a peace keeper in the world, and must pass her magic on to her kids. Also someone you didn’t put in the episode is Calypso. Calypso is said to be a very wise magic user and that is why she is so smart and in some episodes tells the future. I hope you look at this please

I'd never have thought in a million years that MatPat, one of the giants of the internet, would make one of his last 9 theories on Bluey, and Bluey being a witch of all things.

I think the whole show isn’t Bluey happening in the present but the childhood the kids remember. It seems magical to them just as our childhoods seem to us. There are also multiple points in the show where the kids are either shown as grown adults or teenagers or the parents are recalling a memory. It’s not that there is magic it’s that the children recall their childhood experiences in these creative, fun, magical ways.

It is magic, the magic of imagination. I do think that chilli is the heart of it. It’s clear that she was raised with loving fun parents (like her dad running with the girls and hiding). The latest episodes added include one where chilli speaks about her late mom. How she encouraged her and helped her get better at drawing. I think her mom and dad played similar games with her and Brandi when they were kids before their mom passed away. Chilli grew up without a mom (it’s unclear when she dies but it’s after chili turns 7) She wants her girls to experience all the joys of childhood and to have an active imagination. Honestly one of the best parts of being a parent is making magic for your kids. Helps make up for when they are being terrors 😂 But I do have to say, nearly every episode I feel sorry for Wendy and Pat (lucky dad). They really get caught up in some crazy shenanigans.

My thoughts on this: Considering that we've seen multiple glimpses of the future versions of Bluey, Bingo, Rusty, and many other characters, I've always felt that this series could in fact be a perpetual flashback, much like "How I Met Your Mother." What we're seeing in these episodes are not 100% factual events, but rather just how Bluey remembers them happening from when she was 7 years old. In her young memory, she believed that these magic moments actually happened, so we are seeing them from her perspective as if they did. In reality, her parents were always still super catering and accommodating to her and Bingo's imaginations, but a lot of the questionable moments are simply just Bluey remembering it wrong.

I did wonder how Bandit and Chili were so darn good at playing with their kids, to the point of doing solid animal impressions and performing acrobatic feats in some episodes.

As a fellow parent of a 4 year old, I too love this show and watch it with my son all the time, and try to use lessons and examples from the show to make our shared experience of his childhood so much better. I am sure this was pointed out elsewhere, but there are also examples in the show where the people dont realize the game immediately and take a second to join in. For example (and I am pulling these from memory so I may be partially mis remembering) but in the heavy episode, when she first tries to heavy Bandit's breakfast, he first responds with a "what?" like he didnt actually hear, or register what Bingo said, and it was only when she said it again that he actually responded. Furthermore, while Bluey is great at playing into the games, Bingo can sometimes be a bit slow to join in. For example there is a part when Bandit gets the magic xylophone and freezes Bluey immediately, but he tries like 3 times to freeze Bingo and she just runs off and is never affected. I just watched the other episode you did on Bluey and you tried to address a lot of the counter examples, but I didnt see mention of them here. But for the above reasons, I think some of the things we see in the show that try to prove magic are just artistic intpretations, and I am team pretend games instead of team magic. TLDR, there are times when the magic just doesnt work, therefore I am team pretend games.

I like that despite being comfortable playing with his kids and involving the neighbors he knows, Bandit is still nervous to play like that in front of dads that he doesn't know well

I thought it was commitment. Cause if the magic xylophone episode Bandit freezes bluey and he repeatedly tries to freeze bingo but she is so nervous she completely ignores the rules and keeps running. If it where true magic it would apply. Second, on the feather episode when bingo says heavy to bandit holding the cereal he doesn't hear her at first and wonders what she said, after repeating herself then he starts playing

I love that the other Bandit parallel is the commitment to the bit. MatPat out there being an amazing dad and human.

Honestly when I saw your "Bluey is dark" theory I originally thought it was gonna be about the weird magic stuff that the characters do in this series given how bizarre it seemed. My personal theory was that maybe because they're dogs they're just trained to respond accordingly to the games they play. Similar to how you can get a trained dog to sit simply by waving your hand The kids and presumably the parents have grown up playing make believe and using their imagination so it's naturally built into their instincts as time goes on. Before they eventually teach it to their children. And the children after that. And eventually it becomes completely normal in society for a random mom to start dancing in the street regardless of how road raged drivers will feel

the show is always conveyed from the perspective of the kids so for them, their playing and everyone’s participation really is ‘magic’ to them

Never would I have thought that the kids and family show Bluey, where dogs act like people doing normal human things, would have anything to do with magic, let alone be a show centered around the lineage of it. Pat is, without a doubt, the most chill neighbour you could ever hope to have, whether he's being attacked by imaginary animals, having his hat made heavy, or having his pie ripped out of his hands and all the sauce licked off it while he's walking down the street just minding his own business, he takes it in stride. Not just that, he's happy to help tear up a couple tree stumps, with his only retribution seemingly being his palm tree dropping branches in the Heeler's yard.

One of the most unique things about the show Bluey is that it holds as many lessons for the children as it does for the parents. It wasn’t something I noticed before watching this theory but the parents in the show create an environment of “magic” so realistic that the child viewers are captivated into believing exactly what Bluey and Bingo are seeing and the adult viewers are left low-key intimidated by how seriously the Heeler parents take the family games. But the lesson still stands- the show breaks down the hypothetical question “I could never take play time that far, what would the neighbors think?” And transforms that thought into “What are the actual sequences of engaging with my child in that way? The neighbors think we’re crazy? We end up late? I get stuck as a sheepdog?” The show is as incredibly introspective for the parents as it is for the kids, I think it’s why adults have an equally hard time not clicking Watch Next Episode lol

Id like to think that lucky's dad and wendy understand the shenanigans that the heelers play because they have children of their own, and with the children often playing together and them being neighbors who witness these games, they often join in understanding the importance of playing for children. Daddy drop off's message was literally "playing with your kids could affect them positively for their entire lives" Edit: what ever happened to calm discussion of a mutually liked topic? The whole point of this channel is dedicated to talking about and speculating on our favorite mediums. I maintain that each episode is a memory of adult Bluey/Bingo/friend of theirs, looking back on a fun childhood and filling in/glossing over any sub-par moments.

I have said that the most unrealistic part of the show is how willing all the adults are to play along with the shenanigans. I will point out that Bluey as a character is very devoted to following rules of games even the ones that she makes up as seen in the episode Shadowlands. So while he is right that the adults could absolutely stop if they really wanted to, the example with Bluey isn’t the most compelling as even if she could, she wouldn’t.

Thank you MatPat, only you could convince me that a cute and wholesome show like Bluey is actually about a bunch of magical menaces 😊🤣

I like the theory, but there are somethings that I noticed, of the kids breaking the magic. 1: Episode 1 Season 1 (The Magic Xylophone) At 5:05 timestamp. Bandit tries to freeze Bingo but she runs away. 2: Episode 2 Season 2, (Featherwand) 1:53 Timestamp. Bingo tries to heavy Bandits cereal, but has to elaborate it a second time in order for him to start playing along. 3: Episode 49 Season 1. (Asparagus) At 1:19 Timestamp. Bluey tries to turn Bingo into a Warthog, and Bingo wants to be a piglet instead, and Bluey makes her a piglet. The Timestamps and Ep numbers are from Disney+, in the U.S. I'm not trying to start an argument or take away from your creditably, I just noticed these facts when watching.

Being an older sister off three I have watched bluey since 2021 and this question has lingered in my mind for years and you really shown off the greatness but strangeness of Bluey I really needed too see this today.

Also love the idea that these parents are so dedicated to keeping their children happy and the feeling of magic real in their lives that they overlook the inconveniences it can cause. Being late to school or making some people have to wait an extra 30 seconds in line while you dance is worth so little compared to the memories of fun and magic that can last a lifetime.

I was always under the impression that the kids and parents have off-screen pre-game discussions for some games (and scenes.) Kinda explains how everyone knows the rules of the games they've never shown before ahead of time even when it would be impossible otherwise. While supporting cast jump in and play along you do see complete strangers react as you'd expect.

I've always been convinced that Bluey is an all powerful being with superpowers. Some of the things her parents go along with are unbelievable. Bingo shares these powers I believe

I know this theory is just for fun, but as an Australian living in a small town (one part of Bluey is animated based on where I live!), but some of this just how Aussie communities are. In small towns you watch kids grow and play their games - it’s fun ☺️ (although no head butting here hahaha) I also think that the show is from the kid’s perspective, so of course the magic is real to them!! As a kid my brother and I thought we were friends with the green ants in the tree in our backyard. Wouldn’t be true, but it was real to us as kids ☺️✨

So in the earlier episodes of the show there are a few moments that say its not all magic. Because with examples of the cereal taking a few times to become heavy, and later in the same episode the big ball came down the stairs and bounced normally. If it had actually become heavy it would have had a drastic effect on the bounce on the stairs and the back of their couch. The Bandit spoon scene does lend to the magic theory, but the first cereal scene Bandit clearly sees and hears Bingo, but not clearly enough to give understand her. That is until she proclaims loudly and clearly "I said cereal heavy!" Its at this point that Bandit all the sudden loses complete recollection that Bingo was even there in the first place and the cereal is now incredibly heavy. Also, closer to the end of the show Bandit says, "When you make your own fun, you certainly make your own fun." Indicating that this whole thing was just a full on play into a made up game of a young child, and going full on into the bit of the game itself. Another episode that shows this, everyone just plays along, mentality is the one where Bandit goes shopping with his girls and Bluely takes the role of mother with Bandit and Bingo pretending to be her kids. The adults of the store all refer to Bluey as Mrs. Heeler and even the scene when Bandit is sentenced to time out in a toilet paper chair Bluey pretends to be mad, has to tell her father to bend down and puts him into said chair by "pulling him by the ear" he is clearly just playing along. This also has to be a long standing thing they do and continue to do because some of the games, Bandit especially, says oh no not.... Which indicates its a game they have done before, and possibly multiple times. So they know what to expect. Now with the episode Magic and even Daddy Drop Off there are elements that play into the magic is real in this world. There's parts in both where it is impossible for things to have happened without magic being involved. First, Lucky's dad (Pat) says "Its not up to me." Signifies that he's being controlled, however after he catches Bandit he himself has to hold him up even though he's "being magic'd" the whole time. There are also a couple parts in that episode when Bingo does magic and no one is looking at her and it takes effect. So in the end this show is half magic, half going in deep into a made up game. Yet, it is all entertainment. They've been doing this for years so their neighbors (especially including Pat) can switch into that game mode without a second thought. However, the magic of there actually being fairies, other impossible acts such as the bending spoon, and events occurring that without actual magic being a thing is there as well. Means its a mix of both magic and playing the bit of the game fully. Whatever the truth is of this world. It's entertaining and wholesome. Trying to teach valuable lessons here and there. All the while staying kid friendly, and relatable, and that in of itself is the true magic of Bluey.

I absolutely love love love the theory but also on a serious note I think the whole show is more likely interpreted as a recollection of childhood from an adult Bluey and or Bingo so in their recollection the antics from their games as children it feels so real in part because of how supportive their parents were of those games. Maybe, for example Chilli did dance during a crosswalk and maybe in reality she was moving forward at pace with the rest of the Heeler family but in Bingo and Bluey’s recollection she was so dedicated to making the magic feel real when they were young that she actively held up traffic.

8:20 a possible explanation for bandit knowing when to release from slo mo, would be him being able to see bingo in the reflection of the car window. That would explain him reacting to the motion of the wand opposed to the noise she makes. His eyes are glued forward, toward the window so it would make sense. This doesn't explain all of them but for this one it' could work. I think the best explanation for magic is the episode fairies. With the whole family present, like when they're huddled in the shed, then they go out and the yard is littered with fairy rings. Like who did that. Then all the ones like the stickers on their bums or or their tails being braided with no time for it to happen. The asparagus and feather wands are good examples of it too. Especially the feather wand. Bingo is making things heavy with it, and it's one thing it working for everyone in the house who knows the game. But then luckys dad is passing by and it works on him, with no explanation of the game. Either it's magic, they've done it before, or he has almost Sherlock level investigation skills and could see what was happening instantly and react just as fast. The easier explanation is that it is actually magic.

I forgot the name of the episode (I think it was spy game or spies) Bluey and Bingo’s friends make a magic potion in the park far away from the grown ups. The point of the potion was to control the adults. It actually controls them and makes a grill catch on fire. I thought matpat was going to use it as evidence but even though he didn’t it’s still evidence
