theory: Matpat is secretly a robot created by Scott Cawthon, and his attempts to try and get us to believe that everyone in the FNAF universe is a robot is him trying to cry out for help and reveal Scott Cawthon's dark secret of replacing the whole world with animatronics that will buy his games.

he never fully got over it, and to me it’s a different arc. you can see it as how people get over situations but something happens and brings back all of those feelings again. which to me makes sense since he recently got over his brothers disappearance. the event occurred decades ago yet his feelings are still strong, it ain’t that easy to get over something like that. maybe he made peace with it, but if the opportunity to bring him back comes along… i doubt that he would think rationally.

@@siryarianthefirst3360 maybe when he realises Afton is still alive, still able to hurt kids he goes on a sort of 'vigilante' spree, which could tie in with the theory of the games, where he goes to all the locations and burns them/sets them free. maybe Vanessa is still in a coma during this. then at the end of the movie either 1 (afton dies?) she wakes up and her programming has gone back to default so she starts going on killing sprees a la baby. or 2. Afton takes her from the hospital and turns her into baby and Mike has to take on both in the final movie. Just some thoughts though lol

There’s a bit of lore I surprised you didn’t mention. It wasn’t relevant to the theory, but if the movie does take place in 2000, and Mike was twelve when Garrett disappeared, the book’s reveal that he’s 25 in 2000 reveals that Garrett disappeared in 1987.

Honestly even the Gregbot theory had ground to stand on, until Ruin and that one Pizzaplex novel. It's more likely Gregory is just infected by the Glitchtrap virus or whatever. Vanessa from the movies being a robot though doesn't seem to have any proper counterpoints yet.

I'm so glad Sleezeball-Doug isn't cannon. The way they portrayed him in the movie was amazing 😂 he was so uncomfortable in the diner scene, wanting desperately to escape whatever situation his job had somehow legally and soon illegally roped him into... which, now that I think about it, is the essence of being a fnaf employee. It’s also very common for the authors for these novelizations to be given early versions of the script to work with. It varies from production to production but most of the time the version that’s adapted into the novelization is not the final script. Not to mention does not account for changes made during production. (This is probably what happened with Doug, his character was written a specific way in an earlier draft before an edit or change was made before or during actual production). So it’s likely a lot of this was intended to be in the movie at one point but was either written out in another draft or cut out of the movie for any number of reasons.

I believed your theory on Robot Vanessa as soon as you said it. The strange switch of the "Afton siblings" being the Schmidts in the movie made me immediately connect Vanessa to Charlie. And it's as you said, Charlie in the books switches robots the moment one dies. That leaves movie Vanessa in a very similar place.

Fun fact, indigo historically has NOT been purple or really even purplish. Instead, it is a deep blue. You can see this in the original dye that gives it its name (it is the traditional dye used in denim/blue jeans). The "blue" in ROYGBIV likely referred to more of a cyan or sky-blue, and indigo was the darker blue that we now associate with the word "blue". This confusion has been further compounded over the years, and it is now pretty much acceptable to use it either to refer to a dark blue or a purplish blue. My guess based on the description in the book is that Scott just means dark blue.

I think it's more likely his Dad is still alive, working the kitchen or doing stock checks/paperwork. Unknown, as the status of his Dad isn't confirm, just that Ness was hired by his Dad to work there.

Actually knowing why Vader protected Palpatine from Luke, why Anakin was crying on Mustafar, what Padme was thinking when Obi-Wan told her about Anakin’s fall, it’s all very intriguing to me. Well, in the book the Fourth Closest, fake Charlie says to the real Charlie,"What makes you so special?" I do not know if it has to do with the same phrase in help wanted 2, but I just wanted to point it out.

Idk where I stand on the whole everything and everyone is a robot thing myself, but I do think it’s an interesting parallel to how the series started: human souls hidden behind animatronic bodies. It’s the exact opposite of the robots disguised as humans that Mat keeps theorizing about. If the story does go that route, I hope Steelwool does something with that parallel.

I love that there is another X is a robot theory and I love that it kind of makes sense. I think this would be interesting to see play out but seeing Mike essentially through the same arc as he has in the first movie, being given a chance to get his brother back through making a terrible decision only to reject it, could feel redundant if done incorrectly. I'm glad we have a FNaF film theory as part of the final 10, as it just feels right to cover the series one more time, maybe the final Style Theory will be a FNaF video somehow... Thank you MatPat.

Okay, you've convinced me. I'm normally not a big fan of the "this character was a robot all along" theories, but this one is interesting and makes a lot of sense. (Not that the Gregory as a robot theories don't make sense, I just don't like to pay attention to them. But this one hits different). It's helped me see the film in a new light and one that I enjoy more than the original way I saw the film. Questions being answered and scenes making more sense with this mindset. I actually hope you're right with this one because it just makes so much sense!

I have something to add for this. If books are canon to Games (Mimic in RUIN) and Movie has books as canon (Ellie) then Ellie (That doll in Silver eyes) HAS TO BE in the same year as Fredbear and Spring Bonnie in 1983 because she has springlocks as well

The games and the books should be considered to be separate continuities, even if they do share many familiar elements. So yes, the book is canon, just as the games are. That doesn't mean that they are intended to fit together like two puzzle pieces. I would actually ask anyone wanting to read the book... read the book for the sake of enjoying the book, and don't try to "solve" anything . The book is a re-imagining of the Five Nights at Freddy's story, and if you go into it with that mindset, I think you will really enjoy it." a quote from scott cawthon himself, there are parallels between the games and the books but they aren't 1:1

14:59 makes a lot of sense too because we know that in the movie universe, Henry and Afton are switched almost, Afton having one daughter, and “Henry” or whoever Mike’s dad is has two sons and one daughter, so it would make sense that Vanessa would mirror Elizabeth

I don't think that Vannessa is a robot because when she got stabed, you would have heard some kind of clanking. Also, the doctors would have figured it out when they stuck a tube down her throat. I do believe that there are robot kids, I just don't think that Vannessa is one of them.

I agree. While I like the theory, I just feel like the hospital scene disproves it. In my opinion she may have a chip in her mind or something like that, sort of like in help wanted. Controlled, but not necessarily a robot. Matt’s theories are always amazing and this one is too just some things don’t add up in my opinion

Pretty much the only way the doctors couldn't have noticed is an illusion disk, but I feel like that might be to complex for the movies. I think the same goes for robot people in general for the movie trilogy plot, Scott wants to focus on the first three games (Matthew Lillard has said that Scott told them that's all the background info they'd need going into the movie) and robot people and illusion disks came a few years later.

Just one giant issue. If she were a robot, the doctors at the hospital would have found out. If they found out she was a robot, she wouldn't be in the hospital being treated for her wound.

I loved this theory! There are too many robot people for there NOT to be an important robot person. And that book evidence is pretty on the nose. If it's not evidence, Scott is trolling (again). But it fits very nicely and explains some things. And still fits with the abuse themes; she's programed to listen to him, metaphorically and in reality.

You might have heard it said that eye colors change with mood, but the truth behind that is the iris is responding to emotional and hormonal changes. This can cause eyes to seem lighter or darker in color as a response to an emotional situation, but this would not be a full change in the color of the eyes.

I'd also like to mention that a character that is known to change eye color in the game series is Circus Baby, who changes eye color when she was possessed by Elizabeth. It may just add more connections to Vanessa being (whenever symbolically or not) Elizabeth, but it's interesting to point out.
