Technically it is lore. A raider did kill the master orochi who pretty much possessed the skills the kyoshins have and has basically created the orochi and kyoshin so yes. Maybe they got there hands on Viking documents that revealed the secret of there hyper armor heavy thus the superior block was created to counter this ancient threat.
