I use WatchLink on my Apple Watch to provide HR data to my Garmin Edge and it also works well. But you are so right, native support of HR to the Edge from the Apple Watch would be very nice. Shame on Apple for another example of making their products not play well with the competition.

Not directly from the Edge. You’ll get radar alerts via the Varia app if you have a Bluetooth compatible Varia Radar. See my recent video on this topic.

@@gplama thanks for your quick reply! Tried the varia app indeed but my RTL510 is not compatible :-( . I haven’t put much thought in it to better understand if this is/was a simple product decision (thou shall not use head phones…. but since the music widget that seems to no longer be logical) or technically more difficult then at first sight (it seems simple enough but it is easy to overlook stuff :-)

Just watched your video on varia headphone alerts. Good stuff. Is The Karoo alternative also working with the ant+ only rtl510? If so that is what I was/am expecting Garmin to implement on their edge devices.

Yep, the Karoo will do what you're after with the RTL510 (ANT+ only). You'll need to pair your headphones to the Karoo unit.

​@@gplama ;-) that will be difficult since i have an edge 1040 solar ;-) Looks like i have to spend money on a new varia radar then. Or wait till Garmin adds this with support of their Garmin connect app on my iphone that has the head set connection. So if there is a Garmin Product Owner reading along: As a user i want my rtl510 radar to connect to my Garmin edge 1040 which is connected to my Garmin connect app on my phone and play alerts on my phone/headset just like it currently does with route instructions during navigation. Thanks in advance for your effort ;-)

that's a weird way of showing hate - buying their highest end cycling computer eh? ;) More like love/hoate relationship imo. And being pedantic, Fenix is not an EDGE device too.

This is why you are one of the best here on UKposts. Ironically it shows “sending updates”on my phone with Garmin Connect but it does not update or move the needle as to show it’s loading. It says that it’s got version 4.10. Let me use the USB as you’ve recommended Thank you

@@gplama Saved my day. Had the same problem and not once did they mention Garmin Express in the manuals, at least what I could see. Garmin Connect just kept saying updating and nothing was happening. Thanks!

A) Wind noise can and sometimes does make it hard to hear cars and other cyclists. B) Bone conduction is a thing now, and it's becoming quite popular. It is also possible to leave one earbud out or turn the volume down so that you can hear your surroundings. C) Not everybody rides during heavy rush hour traffic (why would you?). Some prefer to ride when and where traffic is low. D) For some, music is a tool which helps make the ride more enjoyable or effective. Not everybody enjoys a long stretch of desert highway with only the sound of wind and tires on tarmac to keep them company. You shouldn't condescend others for not sharing YOUR belief, we all live in different places and have differing experiences.

@@DavidEvans455 - I actually was genuinely interested in this feature as I do often listen to music while I ride. My snarky comment was really intended to try to make Shane laugh as I’m a big fan of his videos. Hopefully he took it as a joke. I thought the bikes and Beyoncé hash tag made that even more clear but I guess the internet is no place for joking around.

Why? With buttons I just fiddle longer and take my attention longer off the road. With a touch screen, anything is just a tap away.

Doesn't seem like a particularly well thought out position. We should take speedometers out of cars lest we accuse manufacturers of encouraging taking one's eyes off the road.

Explain how touching a button is less distracting that touching a screen.
