They went to the shipping container, and likely consulted customs, their supervisors, and port authority on how to proceed. The port authority likely said because of the sensitive international nature of the containers, and a lack of warrant to search the container, it would be costly and detrimental to open the container. Once the container with your box gets to the shipping yard, call the police and say “someone stole my car and it’s on this shipping container. I need you to open it so I can recover my car. You’ll realize that AirTags aren’t a 3 dimensional tracker, they don’t tell you which container, out of the 4 stacked, will have your AirTag in it.

The police have no jurisdiction in Canadian ports, there is no dedicated police force at sea ports in Canada. There are the equivalent of border patrol, which are not police, and have only certain abilities and things they can enforce. The car, while stolen, was not illegal contraband, nor was it a person being trafficked, so they could do nothing. Once it was in Dubai, Canada has no jurisdiction, and the police in Dubai don't care and will gladly take a bribe instead of doing work.

Yeah I don't believe this story because my friend has had one of his cars stolen like this and he did have trackers on it. Found it in the UK, contacted the local police, the police contacted the Harbour master, who contacted FMC and they found the group of workers who were transporting unmarked Vehicles. They had removed and replaced VINs and forged titles. They literally do this every year and even tho it took 4 months to get his car back he still got a foot in the lawsuit a year later. Police have resources they will use them 😂

Search Warrants* Cops need search warrants for both cases. In case 1, the Canadian cops did not have time to get search warrant for that container. For case 2, idk Dubai laws are foreign to me but I do know that Interpol does not have jurisdiction in Dubai. I did the same thing. Just my old Chevy truck stolen, found it behind a guys house, jumped out of my wife's car with my phone and fun in hand. The cops said they would try to send someone over soon so I told them FUCK IT, I'm getting it back myself. I have them the address and they showed up about the time I got it cranked up and drove it through his fence. The guy opened up my door and met my buddies Smith and Wesson. I told him to lay on the ground, the cops took over from there. I left in my truck about 30 minutes later and he went to jail. PS-/ - they found 6-7 other stolen vehicles and several side by sides and 4 wheelers that were all stolen as well

A long time ago one of my cars was stollen. I found the car in the street, the car had been painted a different color. The police would not do anything. They somehow were accusing me of altering the vin number on the car??? I was in disbelief. I told the police that I was going to go take the car myself. (It was parked legally on the street.) At that point they towed the car & impounded the car. The impound lot would not release the car to me , because now it was being held for evidence. It took several months before I was given permission to retrieve the car. I went to pick it up, the engine was now missing! The storage fee was more than the car was worth. I got nothing.

Reminds me of a time my uncle's chopper was stolen from the hanger while undergoing minor servicing and found at the rooftop of a building in Nairobi. Of course that was his second attempted chopper theft.

@@dn8533 A 40ft container costs me almost 10k exactly but half the load is the vehicle and the other half is household goods. Containers are almost always just rented out and owned by the shipping line. That fee also includes port fees so I dont have to do any paperwork. It will cost you nearly the price of a new vehicle plus the extra headache and inevitable delays, complaints, request for extra money etc. Its not advised to ship a vehicle unless its rare, very expensive, emotionally attached or youve done a lot of mods. In my case, im taking a 4x4 which has already been kitted with overlanding equipment and it would be too difficult to sell locally and redo on that end. Id recommend buying a used vehicle in Turkey. Also if your container arrives and you arent there to collect in like 2 days, they will screw you with storage fees. Consult a shipping agency and just ask for a quote, youll see what im taking about. Ask them to disclose hidden costs like insurance, vehicle preparation etc.
