Is spreading a message of “it’s perfectly okay to have what you need and nothing else.” Rather than, “If you don’t have a brand new 4 door rubicon fully equipped, you should even be looking at a jeep trail.” Thank you.

Tommy, Congratulations on your new car! I have roughly the same veh, 21 2 door Willys but auto and hard top. You mentioned how you are not thrilled it’s the steering or on road ride. I too had that initial reaction. Eventually I realized that the dealership hadn’t reduced the air pressure in the tires during prep. All four tires were over 45 psi and should be in the mid 30’s. It was like riding on rocks until I aired down. Toward the end of your video you were scrolling through the settings in the dash screen and I noticed your tire pressures were also all in the mid 40’s. Reduce those down to 36 or so (we have different tires, so whatever is recommended on your door sticker) and it will make all the difference in the world. No more wandering steering or jarring suspension over expansion joints. Good luck, hope this helps, and enjoy!

I respect people that go for the bare bones wrangler. It’s meant to be a rough vehicle. It’s personality is spartan by nature. It’s not meant to be a soccer mom transport. You can trace that back to its roots in the military.

This was refreshing! A few years ago, I was driving my old 1991 Jeep Wrangler - very basic compared to modern Jeeps. Your Jeep reminds me of my Jeep. Also, it seems no matter what kind of Jeep Wrangler you have, another Wrangler driver will generally give the “Jeep Wave” - it is a good feeling whenever I get that wave! I pulled into a gas station once and by chance, I saw a gentleman with an old military Jeep and someone with the latest Rubicon. We ended up having a coffee talking about Jeeps and mutual respect for each other’s vehicles. Enjoy your new ride!

I thought this was an excellent review. I work social media for an automotive group outside of Pittsburgh and we handle both Chrysler and Ford among others. You were spot on as far as availability of the Bronco as well. I also am taking the wait and see approach with the Bronco. It is definitely a great competitor for the Bronco. Congrats and welcome to the Jeep family. I kind of assumed that you'd be getting the turbo given your location, but I agree the pentastar is a proven engine.

Nice buy! Also I honestly like having manual adjust climate controls. Sometimes when its 75 degrees Im cold. Sometimes when its 45 degrees out, I'm hot. With a manual control, I can set the air how I like it. I'm not always happy with the temp that automated climate controls set. Sometimes I feel that automakers put all this junk in cars just so they can justify making higher trim levels and upcharging people.

Love the configuration. But if Jeep would lower the price of these to around $25k they would sell 10 times as much. They over price it because they know people who love them will pay that much. But people on the fence have other options.

My dog also struggles in the heat so my Gladiator’s rear vents really come in handy for him. It’s something I really didn’t even think about when I got the truck, but I definitely appreciate them for my bud on hot Texas days

Really like your Jeep! I am one of the lucky ones, My Big Bend 2 door is going to be built in August. Good choice on seat color, I do not like all black interiors either and ordered mine with the Sandstone accents. Black seats show dog hair too! Did not realize they even made totally manually key operated vehicles anymore! Have fun and enjoy you new ride!

My first new Jeep was a 1976 CJ5 base model with manual and the 232 cid Inline 6. It didn't have air conditioning, or power windows, it had windows that opened with a zipper. It also didn't have any door locks as it had the soft doors. It was great off road and I loved that Jeep. Yours is nicely equipped with just a few options, and I bet much more comfortable than the one I started with. It looks great in red with the Willys package, smart buy! Just bought my first new vehicle last month also (I feel so adult!). I went with an SR5 Premium 4wd 4runner, partly because I love Toyota reliability, but mainly because it's a new vehicle that still feels kind of old. Glad you got a more basic model wrangler. Love the red with tan interior combo on a jeep.

Actually like the choice, with the manual trans and minimal electronics there's not a lot to break on there and being your first car you're gonna maintain it meticulously. I don't see myself buying a new Jeep but if I did it would be one like that!

Congrats on the new ride! I can see this turning into a great series; show people how far you can get with a Jeep like this vs some of the popular ones costing almost 1.5- 2 X the price. Also, as much as I'm loving the new Bronco, I'd wait for them to sort out any kinks with it before even seriously considering it (not a jab at the Bronco, I'm just not an early adopter).

Love the way you spec'd the original base model. The Willys is great though too and probably makes more sense for the amount of offroading you'll do. GJ.

Great explanation. I may be considering a similar move, and I live in Colorado as well. I do want a narrow vehicle to navigate the trails because having to hug a cliff to let an oncoming vehicle pass really makes me nervous. That being said I drive a half ton pickup now and the bronco would be a lot smaller, so I could probably live with it. Also, being able to get the Sasquatch package on the base model is huge. Couple that with decent on-road performance and mirrors that are attached to the body and I'd probably have to go for the bronco, especially once Ford recognizes x plan pricing. That being said I'm sure there would be instances on the trails that I would prefer to have a few inches shaved off, so I can definitely understand going the Jeep route as well.

I got 2 door Wrangler 10 years ago and with 2 kids it was sufficient for everything we do (including hauling football gear).We even packed for 1 week lake trip including linens just to see if we could (trick is to use cabin space on the sides as well :) ). It is fun vehicle that also very practical for 90% of the cases.

Great job! It's your money, you spent it wisely IMO. I've owned 3 jeeps, a 2 door wrangler soft top, a 2 door Rubicon Hardtop, and a 4 door Rubicon. Absolutely loved each one. I traded my 4 door for a Ram 1500 in order to tow a 26 foot Camper. It's a great truck , comfortable, almost 50k on it with zero issues and around 23mpg on the highway with my heavy foot. Not bad for a full size 4x4 Hemi. That being said, OH HOW I MISS MY JEEP! I hope I'll be able to get another one day.. I like the broncos, however I totally agree with your logic and research as to your choice. Congratulations Tommy, ya did good IMHO!

Tomas, I wrapped my plastic wheel in a "wheelskins" leather wrap that I installed myself. Great upgrade.

I have a 2019 wrangler rubicon, 2 door, manual. I paid $36k. I has keyless entry, the bigger screen, and power windows. I traded in my 2017 4 door rubicon with every option. When I saw a 2 door manual, I knew I had to buy it. Even though the new one has less options, I like it a lot better. I just wish I had off road trails where I live.

Its perfect Tommy, like my when my 71 fj40 was stock. All the fun stuff without the electrical nightmares you can sometimes get with loaded rigs. Congratulations.

Great review and cool Jeep! I ordered my Gladiator Sport (base sport) 6 speed and I love it. I wanted no frills. I also ordered it with the heritage tan. When I ordered the the Willys sport wasn’t an option yet, but I was able to get Gobi before it was stopped. Again I dig your 2 door, they don’t get enough love.

Congrats on your purchase! I bought a new Wrangler in 2004 and I still love it. The key in my opinion is don't trade it in when you outgrow it, and you will outgrow it. Just buy the next vehicle and keep this one for fun!!

Manual locks, windows, etc means less to go wrong! And cheaper to fix! Also…we’re your friends, Tommy!

Hi Super well thought out video regarding best vehicle for raw terrain. You thoughts regarding weight are spot-on. I myself have a modified Suzuki Jimny 2020 and it is an unstoppable weapon in the terrain. Continue the good work. Greetings from Denmark.

My first CJ was a bare bones CJ-7 in 76. The only options were power steering, power brakes, T-18 4 Speed Transmission, Locking Differential with 4.11 gearing, removable hard top and heavy duty alternator and cooling. I paid $3,700 for it and sold it 10 years and 300,000 miles later for $3,500.

When you have manual window and locks, is there a wiring harness hookup for the door or just the limiting strap and detent arm?

Nice Jeep. I used the same factors when buying my JL Sport S new in 2020, all in for 33k and it had the Polar Package which in Montana is a good thing. 1) Fun factor 2) Resale, Jeep holds its resale very well. 3) Jeep is the AR 15 of 4x4's. Everyone offers aftermarket parts. 4) Jeeps been around 80 years and going strong.

Your arguments for your purchase are quite impressive! Especially the small details you looked at, where others would overlook. Especially since the Bronco is the new shiny thing. I've seen the 2 door Bronco in person and it definitely looks big for what it is, compared to the Jeep Wrangler. Naturally aspiration over any turbo. I know jeeps aren't known to be that reliable but, your jeep, what you've optioned, the should be worked out. First year vehicles usually never work out great. Plus, the second year they always come out with something better. Third year into production, they usually have the stuff figured out or, at least better have. There's always those people though who buy, keep it nice, and trade it for the next model year. Just because they have the means to do so. The only instance that's surprised me is that I bought the 2005 Mustang when it was brand new. I never had any issues with it. It was reliable out the gate.

Thanks so much for making this video! It exemplifies exactly how I felt about the wrangler vs the bronco. I ended up buying the same exact same spec. A Willys Sport with a manual transmission, AC, the heritage tan seats in Snazzberry Pearl and thats it. Except I did go with the hardtop because I have a place to store it and 4 doors because I wanted the ability to drop the seats and get snowboards in it. I absolutely love my purchase. Its unique, unusual and ultimately rare for the current car market. I wanted less is more. I wanted connection to the car while driving and nothing else exists right now to make that a reality. So this video made my day to see I’m not alone. I certainly got people questioning my choices. Thanks again! Great video
