For ages people have been exaggerating Pushkin's role in the history of the Russian language. You will hear it from everybody, 'Pushkin this!', 'Pushkin that!', 'he is the greatest!', 'the genius!', 'that's classics!', 'you'll understand when you grow up!' But what was the real difference between Pushkin and his contemporary writers? No one really knows it. Even those philologists who haven't studied Pushkin's writings.
In this video we are going to look at Pushkin's opinion about the developing of the Russian language, the opinions of his contemporaries and the way Pushkin's language evolved.
