let's take something into consideration, while the Hacksmith made a working saber too, it's considered a proto saber (in Star Wars cannon). Hacksmith's is connected to a backpack, that has a large propane tank on the back giving it more power and time to run. so, the fact this guy made one fully handheld, not connected to anything is awesome, so Alex, don't get your draw backs get you down!

Its cool none the less. And really awesome to see how others put their spin on design to make things possible. But in reality If you compare Hacksmith's lightsaber to this Alex's. Hacksmith's would still be considered the first retractable lightsaber as it was retractable. However Alex's lightsaber would be a different world record. It would be the first portable handheld retractable lightsaber. The fact that is portable should be emphasized as it would be more grand and distinguished that it is handheld and step closer to what you see in the movies. Hacksmith's version would be considered more of a luggable due to the fuel pack he had to wear on his back. Still they are both awesome and a job well done. Can not wait to see what others come up with :)
@scroobledooble6257
@scroobledooble6257 2 роки тому
Well if you went into semantics, Hacksmith didn’t make a lightsaber, they made a protosaber (which is also canon to Star Wars (not sure if legends or not though)) since it’s attached to their waist. Lightsabers are specifically stand-alone with no need for exterior fuel, whereas a protosaber has some form of exterior fuel typically attached at the waist. That’s why this is being called the first true lightsaber. Again, purely semantics though, doesn’t really matter
@RazorHobbiesRC

Well, i always loved and i will always love Hacksmith's Proto-saber since it was the actual first real working retractable lightsaber him and his team ever made, even though you need to carry a heavy backpack of propane tank and stuff to keep it lit, it's wonderful how they did such a perfect job And Alex's saber is equally as astounding as Hacksmith's, since besides being the first retractable working Lightsaber (Proto-Saber and Lightsaber are two different things) that you can actually put on the holster and take it off and turn you off, it needs the same requirements as Hacksmiths and the design of both is really beautiful, Hacksmith's being a more Steampunk one and Alex's being Starkiller's exposed Kyber Crystal design from Force Unleashed

A lightsaber uses a crystal and a power cell. its pretty much a laser sword. this is more of a handheld flamethrower, from what it looks like is pressurized fuel propulsion system, that probably lasts for a few seconds considering the small portable chamber at the bottom.

In a real-life engagement with two opponents, these 'light sabers' won't stop and hit each other as blades do in Star Wars or with conventional materials. That will drastically change the style of combat and I believe such duels will be very short-lived. A hint: It will be won by the dueler with the longest arm.

I'd suggest adding a retractable stage to the "blade" part of the lightsaber--like police officers' collapsible batons--with tiny holes throughout so that you can have the gas combination go up through the entire length of the lightsaber. Then, when you're done, you just collapse it back. Of course, I'm sure that's easier said than done. LOL! I'm incredibly excited to see where this guy takes his ingenuity and designs in the next couple of years as he works out all of the "bugs". Very cool, indeed!

This has me wondering, would they be able to melt incoming bullets? If so, that would be awesome! I'm curious to know now if in Star Wars lore, do ballistic projectiles melt on contact with the saber? They surely wouldn't be deflected like a blaster shot...
@Marvin_R
@Marvin_R 2 роки тому
lightsaber blades are rigid, things can't pass through them. otherwise they couldn't be stopped by other lightsaber blades or beskar. depending on the melting and burning point of the metal it would either bounce off(like beskar), splash like a water balloon, or turn into smoke.
@GeeZedKay
@GeeZedKay 2 роки тому
@@Marvin_R hmm that reminds me of when Qui Gon Jinn used his to melt through the blast doors at the beginning of ep1 it slid right in but I felt like the blade itself didn't go through, but it was gradually melting through it... It now also makes me wonder why vibroblades are able to deflect lightsabers... maybe it a wave frequency thing?

Yo have you tried experimenting with toroidal propellers to direct the flow of gas and extend/thicken the flame yet? Bet AI could model something for you which would extend it a bit pretty easily now. Great work though man! Closest thing I've ever seen to a lightsaber! Really like how you contained everything and I hope to see another iteration with improvements in the near future!

First...I want to say congrats to these guys!! Great ingenuity, dedication, and craftsmanship. Truly inspirational to see someone complete such a project! It's ways awesome to see people striving to create incredible gadgets! They deserve a lot of credit. With that said...these guys aren't the first to do something like this, not even close. There have been many individuals creating items just like this for years. Way before UKposts was ever even dreamt of, and these wonderful phones ever came along. Those individuals are the ones who paved the way for guys like this. Just a little research and you'll find just how many people are striving to accomplish feats like this. I hope they keep striving to get better and closer to a real thing. I always get a smile when I see titles saying working Light Saber, Retractable Light Saber! Eventually we'll get there. Until then, these are just highly advanced flame torches 😂. Let's keep our feet grounded please. I'm not sure why Guinness is even involved but it is what it is. 😂
